Don't let anyone tell you different. Mike's Speedway Lounge is a decent place to celebrate a 16th anniversary, no matter what that 16th anniversary is. (OK, maybe not the anniversary of your sobriety.) It's located on 16th Street in Speedway, so you have numerology in your favor. It's mellow and laid-back, like the number 16. (No one thinks about the number 16, so it has no responsibilities. The number 16 doesn't have to do any heavy lifting like 15 or 20.) It has decent food. You can really just relax at Mike's and settle into the hazy fog of canned beer and fried foods. This bar opens at noon, and like a degenerate fiend, I was there right when it opened. A guy who seemed like a regular sat down at the bar not too long after I grabbed a table, and a beer was placed in front of him before he even had time to arrange himself on his barstool. Then, wordlessly, a basket of food soon followed. Mike's Speedway Lounge is that kind of place: It's where everyone knows your name, and if you're lucky, your beer and food will materialize in front of you with little to no effort. This was my first time visiting, though, so nothing materialized in front of me. That said, the service was excellent. There was one woman working when I visited, and she was opening beers, taking orders, cooking, settling tabs, dealing with deliveries and wiping tables all by herself. She also had time to tell me about the length of her father's grass, and that was a pleasant conversation. By the time I left, there were several people at the bar chatting with the server and each other. It was a nice and friendly atmosphere. Speaking of opening beers: There are no beers on tap here. Zero. All of the beer is in cans or bottles. They do have a lot of liquor, though, so they can make you a little something, if you want. The food is OK and what you'd expect for a bar. Burgers and sandwiches come with fries, which were excellent. Mike's serves crinkle-cut fries, and they are perfectly fried, so they are crispy on the outside but soft and mealy on the inside. I'm a patty melt person through and through, so that's what I got. The patty melts at Mike's are served between slices of marble rye bread, which was a nice surprise, but the cheese is American, which isn't my favorite. We also got the Mike's Famous Spanish Burger, which is a super thick burger patty with tomato sauce and bell peppers. Apparently, it tastes like a stuffed pepper made into a burger. So depending on where you stand with stuffed peppers, you will either love this burger, or feel like you need to urgently use the restroom after you eat it. Your mileage may vary. There's a pool table here, as well as a digital juke box, a claw machine with twisted things in it (I can't even say what those things are, because Yelp would probably flag my review), a racing video game (because Indy 500), and a few machines that dispense pull tab tickets. This is an old-school bar for sure. The only thing missing is the clouds of cigarette smoke. This is a no-smoking bar! read more

The first few times I have eaten here the food was really good. They have gone downhill. I can. Ot recommend this place. The last time I was here, Ordered a burger and fries. Saw the cook preparing my food, as there was only 1 other person in there at the time, so I knew it was my food, and the cook was itching his inner ear with his finger, and when back to preparing my food. I told the bar tender that I was canceling my order. This area of Indy just can get good employees any longer. read more

We have been in a few times over the past year. The food is always so good! We enjoy the diversity and welcoming feeling of the place. 4 weeks ago we came in on an odd night for us and met Fiona, the bartender. She is a hidden GEM! She is great at her job and taking care of your needs but she is also SO funny! We have been in SEVERAL times since we met her on the nights she works. Tuesday night, I had a drink called "The Fiona". I loved it. I don't like the taste of alcohol and I am telling you! It's amazing! She's worth the visit and just made us love this place even more. She's brutally honest and a no bullshit kinda bartender but she is hilarious. Her sarcasm and quick wit. We now go for the entertainment, Fiona. she makes you feel like she has known you forever. I'm just disappointed it took us so long to go in on a night she works! This is our new 'place' between the food and her, it's all worth it, even if you have to wait a minute or two. read more

I wouldn't recommend ordering through DoorDash from mike's they legit forgot my drinks gave me a small amount of fries and charged me extra 50¢ for large Diet Pepsi that wasn't even a large it was the Pepsi from a 6 pack if you do order from here expect getting your drinks your self or pay for drinks you not going to get fries was cold as well...i just wish they got my order right it sucks I had to drive to get my drinks and add sugar to my sweet tea that wasn't even sweet and add Mayo to my sandwich which they should have done..this was my first time ordering from here and my last...either they need better employees or a better manager either way I'm not satisfied with my order read more

My husband and I ordered through DoorDash for lunch today and we were very impressed! We ordered the Italian Steak Wrap with fries and Grilled Tenderloin with chips. The wrap was awesome! I loved the shaved steak and cheese with a super soft tortilla and the fries were cooked really well. My husband really liked the grilled tenderloin and it was pretty large compared to many other grilled ones. Very reasonable prices too! I just got done eating an order I placed through Doordash and it was great! My family got the handmade onion rings, porto fries, and a pork tenderloin sandwich and we loved it all! The onion rings with the dipping sauce reminded me of the bloomin onion sauce from Outback, but I would eat this place's onion rings over Outback's bloomin onion any day! The rings were not too salty, the breading is nice and light, and the sauce was creamy, zesty, and zingy. We also loved the porto fries with their designated creamy, herby sauce too. As for the tenderloin, yum! Its size was that classic, Hoosier big kind of size. To give a frame of reference, they had to place it in a small pizza box in order for it to fit! The coleslaw was pretty good, sweet but not too sweet, and it was a great compliment to cut the flavor of the meat in between bites. The pickle was obviously homemade too because it wasn't overly salty or sour like most commercially made ones tend to be. Overall, my family enjoyed it and this order, one of each item, alone fed 4 people for around $20! Definitely would recommend at least ordering from this place and trying out their food. Don't do it! Unless you're wasted enough that your blood alone can sanitize and kill/digest whatever you'll be exposed to and your standards are so low you literally are willing to welcome in a demented trip hepatitis C and Tuberculosis, plus indigestion with open arms. We were traveling through Indianapolis and stopped here for lunch after checking reviews on yelp. Lies, lies, ugly lies! First, I must say we must have been extremely tired and hungry, or delusional in our optimism thinking perhaps it's one of those places your buddies tell you about that don't look like much but the food is amazing. Well, this is not one of those places. What the interior, including the greasy haired, equipped with automatic snot retraction feature (loud too), pants pulling waitress looks like, this is what your food will taste like. At the best. After an hour wait. During which your waitress will continue to pull up her pants,eat her own lunch prepared by the kitchen before yours -the actual paying customer, touch her hair, touch the money, put things away,and blow her nose for which after an hour of listening to her snorting up her snots you're greatful -trust me; and never wash her hands and never acknowledge you until the slab of whatever used to breath and had a pulse at one point in time, will arive sadly in front of you. With microwaved vegetables from a can in seasoned tap water. At this point you will exchange awkward and concerned glances with your significant other, because: A) it is rude to stand up and leave without paying because your food arrived looking worse than a 3 day old bloated corpse B)you've invested an hour into this bulls#!& Discouraged,defeated by your environment and yourself for not standing up to this carnival of misery sooner, you dig in for the first bite only to watch your last ounce of hope disintegrate like Trump's reverence. You put your utensils down. Pay your bill and leave still hungry but too disgusted to eat for the rest of the day. Can one be traumatized by a dining experience? As we found out, not only it is possible, but some in the restaurant industry take this challenge extremely seriously. Moral of the story? A nice neighborhood bar with good food at reasonable prices. I have been in three times now. I enjoyed karaoke on Friday nights and gave sampled a few of the drink specials. $4 long island ice teas were delish. read more
