Went for a pedi (gel removal and new gel added) when I had time to kill on a Saturday afternoon. This place is located next door to castros so there's definitely a lot of cigar smell outside and when I went it, it was hot/muggy I assume because they don't want to have the front door open for the smell. They had some customers but I got in right away. Generally I'm the type to not talk and just watch a tv or something but there were no TVs on, only a radio. The owners mike and Kim were doing their thing and I got mike for my pedi. I was sitting in the middle of three pedis and everyone was talking together. Employees seemed relatively happy but there were jokes by mike toward both employees and clients that some may think of as teasing and other would see it as offensive which made things a little awkward for me. I could not be more disappointed in the service I recieved here. I booked an appointment based on the number of positive reviews I'd read. Waited 30 mins in the nearly empty salon for my Mani/pedi despite having an appointment. During the pedi, the tech painfully dug out an ingrown with little regard for my comfort, then put the piece of nail on the top of my foot to show me what she had dug out, and left it there?! while she continued shaping my other nails. Very little attention paid to calluses or dry skin on my feet. No liners in the tubs-ew. I came in with SNS dip on my nails. I repeatedly asked the tech if she was going to soak it off and she replied that she didn't need to. She told me soaking was bad for my nails?? She then used the drill to take the polish down to a thin layer, and explained that because I had chosen a darker color, she would just put it over it. I said that didn't make sense because the base coat should be to protect the nail, and she dismissed me and continued with what she was doing. I did SNS dip again. When it was time for the top coat, she took out the UV light used for shellac nails. I questioned why she needed a light for SNS dip, as I've been getting those for a year in another salon and have never needed the light. She stated that it would make my nails "super shiny". She then used a shellac top coat on the SNS. It was shiny, but that's the key word, WAS. It's been a week, and the shellac top coat, which is not designed for SNS dip, is now chipping off my nails and turning into some bizarre residue that makes my nails look dirty. I will now need to get my nails redone someplace else, and I choose SNS because it typically lasts 2-3w. Not at this salon!! I'm new to the city and had hoped this would be my new salon. Not the case. Lazy techs and questionable cleanliness. I will not be back!!! read more

I came here this past Saturday as a first timer. The older lady that did my (nails) pedicure was rough with my feet and she did NOT clean all of my cuticles/in-grown(s) on my big toes. Gel manicure is already peeling off, later on that same day! All the rave from these reviews, just to be disappointed. Okay so here's the deal. I'm trying to find a new nail salon so i figured I'd give this place a try. Pros: I had a 515p appointment and they did get me right in! Was so happy about that! Krystal was great and did a great job on my nails. Salon has great color selections. Cons: place seemed not clean. I'm not saying dirty, just not clean. The nail tech (not Krystal) who took my gel dip off used a disposable attachment to the drill. Really took off a lot of my real nail and made them a bit soft and fragile. Understaffed ! Two people came in for the 530p appts ... one left at 6p because she couldn't wait anymore. The other one got in after my appointment was over after 6p. Today was my second time coming here. I'm honestly not that impressed. My acrylic nails honestly looked better the first time I got them done. I follow Downtown Nails on Instagram and I was really impressed with what I was seeing. Unfortunately I just wasn't impressed with my nails.. The top of them is skinny but the bottom half is fat (as show in picture.) Also the tips of my nails are not evenly straight. I read on their menu that a refill is $18 and I was charged $30!!!! I gave them 3 stars because the color is nice (both time) and service was friendly but I'm overall disappointed and won't be going back. read more

I got a full set. I asked for coffin medium length and a matte top coat. I was charged $67. $45 for the dip full set, $10 for the length, $5 for the shape, and $7 for the matte top coat. My nails are not even in shape, length or color. They look dusty, and there is paint on my skin. Some are crooked, and overall inconsistent. I chose Downtown Nail Salon based on the Yelp! reviews and because it was close to where my Sister in Law and I were having lunch. The shop is bigger than I expected. Because it is located next to Castro's the entire place smelled like cigar/cigarette smoke which was kind of off putting. We had to wait 30 minutes as only 3 people were working and they have a group of 4 pedicures in front of us. I was impressed with my shellac manicure though, the nail tech was super nice and friendly. The polish came out smooth, no bubbles, streaks etc. I do wish they had a better selection of colors but I will most likely be back! read more

After moving to Manchester, I was having a hard time finding a good nail salon. After going to my trusty Yelp reviews, and some Facebook recon, I decided to give Downtown Nails a try and I am not sorry I did. They are so friendly, fun and they do a great job. I got acryllics and they lasted for quite a while. None of them broke, which is typical for me around 1 or 2 weeks, until almost 4 weeks. They used a new type of acryllic that also didn't damage my nails. They have an Instagram account that you can follow also, if you love to see what they can really do with their artwork. They also offer tanning if you are in the mood. The only thing that bothered me was that I made an appointment for girls night with three of my friends, and we were expected to come in at 5 pm. We arrived and waited an hour before any of us actually got our nails done. I would advise avoiding the whole appointment thing and just pop in when you're free. read more

So impressed with this place! A friend of mine and I went yesterday from a recommendation of my sister. We went and were asked to come back because they were short staffed. We came back, my friend hot a manicure and I got the nexgen dip. The girl told me she couldn't do one of my nails because I had a cut on it. ( a dog bit me, and it hasn't fully healed.) She also commented they wouldn't do nails if they were infected, which I was happy to hear. I was really impressed with the cleanliness. She asked me to come in a few days and she would do that nail. I just visited this nail salon as a walk in. I was instantly greeted and sat down to wait my turn and offered a glass of wine..which was great. They offer a type of nail I had never heard of NexGen...which I decided to get. I had asked to have my old nails (acrylic) removed so they got my gel polish off then got me soaking and sipping while I waited. What I ended up with were some beautiful strong flexible gel nails. This salon has been the best that I've been to in New Hampshire! I heard about it via YELP and decided to give it a try before I go on vacation in a few days! I called ahead and made an appointment. I didn't have to wait when I arrived which is FABULOUS! I got my pedicure first which turned out great! Then, I went to get the nexgen set of nails. I really communicated with my technician that I didn't want my nails think and big. A few months back, I got my nails done and the person did a horrible job that I was traumatized and having nightmares ever since haha. She did a great job and I love my nails. The NexGen process is not well known yet. I first experienced it 1.5 years ago in Texas. This WAS the only place in town to offer the dipping powder last year. My first visit was eventful in that the owner/mgr, Mike, made fun of my Southern accent and heritage (OK, all nail techs are Asian and their language sounds like a hurt animal). I told him he was in business and asked he be professional. He backed down a bit. Traveling for a living lets me experience this nail process from coast to coast, Downtown Nails is not the best and not the worst, but they are the most expensive, including North Hollywood, CA. The girls works fast and often end up with streaked top coats or fibers in the finish. (They never apologize and are condescending) The Pit Bull being raised in the salon was another problem. When he peed on the floor, a paper towel was put on the floor and wiped dry with a shoe. People get pedicures here and walk around with those paper flip-flops. Again, these people never take responsibility for a bad job, They blame the customer. When Mike could not do my nails a couple of months ago, he asked Nu to do them. Yesterday, because of my last manicure was lifting on day 3, she said I switched and they had no colors I liked. Every time I picked a color she would comment that it's not what I want. Mike had disappeared. Finally, it was determined I would never go there again. There is a huge lack of customer service and respect for any customers. We don't operate like that in this country. There is another place in town that was new to the process, and now they can do a good job. Downtown Nails no longer holds a monopoly on this. COMPETITION DEMANDS EXCELLENCE. read more

The WORST pedicure I've ever had in my life! And one of the most expensive. On yesterday 3/10, I went to Downtown Nail, and my feet look the same as before, did not remove dry skin !! When I went to complain the manager told me that was something special and I had to pay $ 7 more? Seriously you call this a normal pedicure? Where did he say that? They never explained that to me! I do pedicure every two weeks, regular pedicure and in all places I have been removed dry skin as part of the process. Unfortunate that a place like this has so bad customer service. read more

At first the allure of a super fast manicure was nice and then I realized a 45 shellac manicure means a lot of sacrifices: half completed cuticle care, bubbles in the polish, crooked filing and a lot of muttering and huffing when you ask for something to be adjusted. I had come in mentioning an issue from before- normally a shellac manicure lasts me 2-3 weeks at least but last time I got my nails done here within two days my shellac was coming up. I mentioned what had happened and instead of addressing the issue she told me to pick a different color. I ignored it because I didn't have time to argue and I wasn't expecting a discount or anything (maybe and apology and an explain action though?!). Then, When my nail tech finished she threw her tools on the counter and huffed "you're finished" didn't even look at me and walked away. I still have her a 20% tip which she didn't thank me for and honestly she didn't deserve half of that. I'm so disappointed. On top of that there's one man that works there and he makes me so uncomfortable. He makes strange joking comments to the women and acts a little "over friendly". I went to Downtown Nails on the recommendation from my hairdresser who gets the SNS nails. I only have Michael do my nails, and he is awesome! I am REALLY picky when it comes to beauty services, but I've been happy. He is experienced and listens to your individual concerns. When I ask not to have a drill used on my nails, he is the FIRST tech who actually respects that and uses a manual file even though it takes him longer. Also, the SNS product line is better for your natural nail than any other product out there and is very lightweight and long lasting. He's awesome, and it's not any more expensive than any other nail salon. He does have a dog in the salon, who is really cute & friendly and I enjoy playing with when I'm there. 5 stars for service, but 1 for quality. I went into downtown nails to get my first manicure ever on the first day of a 1-week vacation from work, thinking that I'd have a better chance of them lasting if I wasn't working. The salon was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, with a modern decor scheme, no nasty chemical smells, and very clean. They also have a cute puppy running around named Shadow who kept me company while I waited. I was helped by a young woman named Nu (sp?) who convinced me that shellac would be my best choice. She was very friendly, easy to talk to, and did a great job on my nails. She told me they would last about 2 weeks. That was a Friday. Sunday I was cleaning out my car, and my right index finger separated and chipped off at the tip. Monday (Labor Day) I called and left a message asking about having it fixed, and the tip of my right thumb started separating and came off a few hours after the call. They called me back today (Tuesday) and told me to come down any time and they'd touch it up. Not a half hour later, while digging through my laundry basket looking for a shirt, my left index finger started separating. So, I'm officially over this manicure. I'm just going to remove the rest of the polish on my own and call it a day---why take the time to go down and have it fixed when it'll probably start going on other nails right after? I'm willing to give them another shot in the future, but perhaps with a different nail treatment, or extra topcoat on my tips, or something. I went here after reading about the reviews here. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't remember the guy's name but he did a great job! He was a little rough but he did good. He used this new stuff called Nexgen. It's a lighter, more natural look. It also has vitamins and is waterproof and chip proof. And the best part is that it takes half the time! The only downfall is that it's kinda pricey. But watching it get done is like magic! He dips your nail in the powder then shakes and blows off the extra and it's perfect! I don't know how he does it! The salon is nice and welcoming and the staff is nice. Parking sucks! You have to park on elm which is awful enough said. Other than that it was good. Only thing I didn't like is that my nail tech just up and left as I was drying my nails. I didn't know what to do and if I was set or what. I had to ask the other tech if I was all set. But I would deff go back just maybe to someone else. read more
