Captain crunch double dip french toast
    Julie M.

Who decided to crush Captain Crunch and make double dipped french toast?! The Downtown Diner did! My son ordered this and I gave it a shot. Wow I'm going to try to learn how to make this at home. It's so great. This creativity would be why I love family owned diners. I am a complete gravy snob. I am from the school that you should only have white gravy with sausage in the morning. If I walk in a place and see brown gravy, I won't even try it. I believe brown gravy is for meat at lunch or dinner. So if you desire to visit the Mecca of white gravy like I do... This is your place! Soft biscuits, flavorful gravy but not greasy....perfection. Great breakfast stop! I also love people watching. Everyone seem to know everyone else's name, there were tables of regulars and everybody said goodbye to one little child who was visiting with a grandparent. Such a great vibe

This is a very good place to eat breakfast or lunch. Lunch specials each day. Service is friendly and fast. I enjoy breakfast for lunch. Burgers are good and you can add an egg. Very busy at lunch. Everything was cooked perfectly. Old style restaurant that is very clean and welcoming. Abbi is such a professional waitress. Always checks back at the table and brings refills just when you need one. Such a great place.

This place has great food and service. Prices are affordable. You can order off the entire menu morning or afternoon. I had the beef pot roast which was freshly made and delicious. The meat was tender. The mashed potatoes are real. My friend had the western omelette and it was loaded with cubes of ham and veggies. The upgrade for hash browns were worth it. They had the perfect crisp and flavor. The have fresh baked goods that run out! Cookies, cinnamon rolls, and pies.

Nice meal (lunch), affordable, and friendly staff. Oh, and it is a typical downtown diner where they offer traditional American food without a lot of frills. As I pulled into the parking lot, I could see the basic cinder block construction under the coat of blue paint. There was an covered area added to the building that probably keeps the sun off the windows and keeps the temperature from changing too much anytime someone entered. Note: The lot was nearly full! I entered into a basic dining area with a few decorations on the walls, but not much beyond that. A smaller dining area was to my right, a pie counter to my left, and the kitchen area was in the back of this 2-building into one business. I was told I could sit where I liked and grabbed a spot towards the rear. The waitress immediately noticed I was not from Frankfort (maybe my Brown County t shirt gave me away.) She brought my beverage and took my order. The special allowed me to get a salad and a half sandwich that also comes with a cookie. They all came out at the same time, so I worked on my salad first. Iceberg lettuce was chopped to bite sized pieces and served with red onion, tomatoes, croutons, and cheese. The Turkey and Swiss was served without any toppings, but they do offere some condiments. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more on the sandwich like tomato, lettuce, etc. So, although it was okay, it didn't have anything to lift it to another level of flavor. The cookie looked like it was a chip ahoy brand. Don't let the lack of frills on the outside keep you from giving this place a try. I enjoyed my meal and was treated very well by the staff. The bright yellow and blue place was hopping with the Saturday lunch crowd. There are seven tables inside (all filled) and two covered blue picnic tables outside. Seating is tight, but fun. Classic soft rock plays in the background. The menu offers burgers, hotdogs, tenderloin and other assorted diner foods. People say the burgers are the best in town. Daily specials are listed on a board. They also serve local Triple X root beer and fried Oreos. Klayton took our order. The staff is friendly and efficient. Food came out quick. I had a Chicago Dog (Nathan's dogs). The dog was thick, juicy and authentic, except for the relish. The poppy seed bun was packed with pickles, peppers, tomato, onions and mustard. It was a great dog. My husband had a loaded pork tenderloin, which we were told is the "best". The enormous pork tenderloin was hand pounded and tasted super fresh. The corn meal breading was tasty. The brioche bun was toasted. He loved the tenderloin and gave it a solid "5" and said it was Trail worthy (an honor not bestowed easily). We shared an order of their crinkle cut fries. The fries were super hot and crisp. There is plenty of parking. A beautiful orange tabby greets you at your car. A freshly painted yellow fence surrounds the lot. We'll be back to try the ice cream. Super fun place. Worth the drive.

My friend decided on their biscuits and gravy whereas I got pancakes with over-hard eggs and sausage. The woman there is very nice and makes you feel very welcomed. Food was good, pancakes just soaked up the syrup, and the sausage had a good snap to them. Eggs were cooked just right, and it all came out fairly quick. My friend had also gotten a coffee, and when we were done she had asked if he wanted any to-go, which he obliged to, and she put some in a cup for him to take with along with creamer, which I thought was super awesome. You don't see that much anymore where the service is just so polite and thoughtful. As we were about to leave, under the register is where all their pies sit, and I noticed a good looking peanut butter one, so we got two slices to-go as well. She really sold me by mentioning how they also do a banana pie, and to check up on their Facebook for updates and such saying how she posts on there frequently for the diner. I know I definitely will be getting more pie from there next time I'm in the area! The peanut butter pie was more of a whipped filling, so not too overwhelmingly decedent or heavy. The crust was also like a chocolate graham crust, and it really paired well to offset the peanut butter. If you're looking for a cute place to stop by and try, I highly recommend this one. Especially if you like pie!
