Oh how the mighty have fallen . I haven't been to this location in a long time but remember it as pretty decent . Not anymore . Lunch was awful. I ordered 2 plain dogs with a side of fries and a small soda . My husband ordered 2 coney cheese dogs with fried mushrooms and a root-beer. The rootbeer was good, nothing else was . My fries made it obvious the oil needed to be changed and some were dark brown oil bombs . Gross. When you get a plain hot dog it's easy to see what's wrong . It was pale and mushy and bumpy that's can only mean it was microwaved. My husband a coney cheese dog fanatic didn't even finish his two . The coney sauce was overly sweet and the dog mushy . This one is in town, in a retail stretch, but looks pretty much like the old ones did. And the food seems pretty much the same, as does the service from teens who set a tray on your window. Buttons on the ordering menu for service, and tray pick-up. A pretty traditional menu. I wasn't super hungry, but I figured since I was getting suds I'd get a dog. Just a plain chili dog. Not my first choice in general. But it was surprisingly good. Good bun, good dog, and the sauce: wet but not sloppy, tangy but not spicy, better than most I've had. Yum. A quintessential drive-in experience. They even have the little tray for your window. We pushed the button to order and they took our order right away and we had our food probably within 5 minutes. Everything came out piping hot. The menu is fairly large so it may take you a minute to choose. I had the Texas Burger basket. I loved the fries and cole slaw, but not so much the texture of the burger patty. The coney sauce was good so I'd just skip the burger next time and go straight for chili cheese fries. As someone who is not from the MidWest and had never been to a drive in before coming here, I would say I generally satisfied with my experience and understand why people like this place. That being said, it's just not for me. I got in right before they closed and just got a coney dog with coleslaw. Dog n Suds started out in Champaign, Illinois in 1953 by two music teachers that opened a hotdog and root beer stand. It was a success and that created what we know as Dog n Suds today. I wish we had more Dog n Suds around Indianapolis. There's two in the West Lafayette and Lafayette area. They have the best char grilled burgers. They just have a great taste to them and the nostalgic call box to order from is also a plus especially during Covid. The service is fast and it looks like at this location they have built an area for outdoor seating with picnic tables will be added soon. The car drive up is all they have as of now. The root beer is what they're known for so order that if you've never had it. Coney dogs, floats, milkshakes, tenderloins and so many other great drive in staples are on the menu. I suggest ordering a foot long coney cheese dog basket with a large root beer. Their shrimp basket is a good choice too! Honestly, there isn't anything I would eat here. A true Lafayette classic. Old school drive-ins are hard to find. Especially with homemade root beer in a frosted mug. They have the best coney dogs I have ever had. The sauce is very unique. It has a sweet tang to it. I added cheese and onion, but I think I'd go onion and mustard next time. You can get a 4lb bag of sauce to take home (or for the off season) for $25. I am hoping this review doesn't come off as biased, as this is solely my favorite place to eat, and I've never had a bad experience here. I fell in love with their coney dogs many, many, many moons ago. The coney sauce is sweet. The cheese adds a bit of flavor, and the onions (that you have to ask to be added on) add a bit of crunch. The buns are always so soft. Their corn dogs are delicious. Their fried mushrooms and slaw are my favorite of all fried mushrooms and slaws. And I'm not even going to get into how no one should live without trying their root beer. Seriously, this place sells liquid gold for your mouth. DnS has been a staple in my childhood, and I make a point, now that I've moved to Indy, to always try to stop by when I am in Lafayette. I follow DnS religiously. Watching for when they will open for the season, and when they, sadly, close the doors for the winter. My only complaint is that they aren't open year round, but then I wouldn't have anything to look forward to in the winter. read more

A 5 out of 5 does not even begin to represent the pure pleasure I found from eating from here. To start with the restaurant itself - picture a sonic esque drive in that serves everything from burgers to dogs. Real greasy good food. I was in a car full of people and we ordered nearly 70 dollars worth of food but the wait for the food was less than 10 minutes. Very impressed with the staff. I ordered chicken strips cheese curds and a double cheese burger. The chicken strips were a tad crunchy and fell apart a little when dipped in the honey mustard (which was excellent btw). The Cheese curds were pure bliss, like a first kiss. The cheeseburger was everything you want in a burger - cheesy and greasy. Wish it would've came with lettuce and tomato but can't complain because I didn't ask for it. GET THE ROOTBEER. It's delicious. Overall would definitely recommend for a quick bite. read more
