At first I thought it must have been me, I offended the CSR....... then I started reading that others had very similar experiences here. The CSR I asked for help acted as though I was such an inconvenience! When I asked for my size she said to me "go look for it on the shelf" The whole experience here isn't very pleasant. It's like the staff had all received a primer on how to provide terrible customer service. It's pretty absurd and based on the other reviews, it's apparent I'm not the only one who had the pleasure of their special treatment. There was a big sale a few weeks back and my mother wanted to take a look. I accompanied her and as she browsed through the boxes of Uggs, she put one box on top of the stack next to it so she could go through the ones underneath. A male employee rushed up and literally snapped, "Put the box back. Don't touch my boxes. There's a reason why I have them lined up this way." Bewildered, I replied, "What? We can't even look through the shoes?" Perhaps realizing then that my mother wasn't alone and someone could understand his English, he proceeded to ignore me and moved away. Yeah, because that's the way to treat your customers, forbid them from going through your merchandise. He then rampaged throughout the store, claiming he had a certain OCD method to his fellow coworkers. Yes, it's called insanity. The other coworkers were not much better. I noticed the "stalking employee" who would follow a customer throughout the store as they tried on stuff; at one point, the girl actually tried to hang up a customer's personal jacket as she was in the middle of trying on a coat before the customer realized and took her jacket back. There was the "warden employee" who spent her time standing in the middle of the shoe section with her arms crossed, yelling at customers to pick up their shoes, put the shoes back, don't put the boxes in the wrong stack, etc. God forbid her from actually uncrossing her arms and asking customers if they needed assistance or help organize the stacks instead of scolding customers. Sure, they tend to have certain sales going on, but I'd advise you to price check online before splurging. My cousin and my mother had both made coat purchases before which they later realized were being sold for cheaper online and unfortunately, sales were final, no refunds. Coupled with the poor customer service, this place just isn't worth it. read more

I never liked Downtown. They seem to have decent-looking things in the windows, but to this day I haven't had a single good experience in that store. I've gone in there several times over the years, hoping it improved...and it didn't. The staff either ignores you or is generally rude, the prices are WAY too high, and it just amazes me that people still go in there and pay through the nose for whatever name brands they're touting that week. I'm not a fan personally (and I doubt that will change now), but hey - if you can stand the high prices and the snooty staff, go for it. read more

Downtown always has the most in style winter gear, jackets, and accessories for that season. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. I was surprised to just catch their end of season sale and walked out with a bunch of beautiful stuff for 40% off. If you have a taste for champagne and a pocket for beer then you shouldn't waste your time going to this store. Unless you luck out as I did today. read more

I'm not a fan. This place is too much hype for what it is. I used to live around the corner, and being that it was the only clothing store in the area, you'd think I'd have bought tons of stuff there. No. As Ariela said, the stuff is way overpriced for what it is. It's a bunch of high end teenie and ghetto fabulous brands that you can get for half the price at Century 21. While the owner is a really nice guy, the staff is totally on the other end of the spectrum. They're cold and snooty and act like everyone's beneath them. So ultra cliquey. Pretty much the crowd they're trying to appeal to. And good luck if you need one of them to actually help you. They like to wander around but don't like to deal with people that are not them. Their one saving grace is their sidewalk sales (which I'm not sure if they still have). You can get a good quality Columbia jacket after season ridiculously cheap. I guess they overcharge enough during the rest of the year to offset those losses. read more

Such a shame to give this business 1 star. They have a huge selection of many brands. I would enjoy shopping here if I wasn't followed around the store! I went to this store once and I'll never go back. As I was in the back of the store, looking at the shoes, the sales associate walked back to a table and started "folding" some shirts. I should say she was "refolding" them The clothes were perfectly folded and did not need any fixing. She was obviously only back there to watch me. I'm 38 years old, have a college degree, and have a very good job. I have no reason, nor desire, to steal from this store! I was raised better than that. So, you now I have one less customer shopping in your store, which is unfortunate for you, because I only live four blocks away. I bought a North Face parka here. It was $30 more than the FULL PRICE online North Face website but I got it anyway because I guess I was lazy and didn't want to wait at home for a shipment and I was in the store already. I was walking around looking at jackets and no one offered to help. I was on the left side of the store while all three employees were on the right. I grabbed a merchandise pole in order to get a jacket off one of the top racks. Finally someone came into my area and I made her put the jacket back. I finally found a jacket I wanted and was thrilled to get out of that store with it. Never going back. read more

I'm not sure what a store like this is doing on Avenue U. The prices are on par with the kind you would spend in a tourist area. I have lived in this area for years and have never bought a single item. Even on sale the items are more expensive than these same items in Century 21 at regular sale. Also I don't appreciate the way in which the sales people watch me as I browse in the store. I live 2 blocks away and came here to look for a light jacket. I was not greeted, in fact, I felt like I was invisible to the workers. I couldn't find a size so I asked this girl to help, then she told me to go ask someone else because she was busy. Ok, so I went up to another worker and he brushed me off quickly saying "whatever we have is there." I believe I spent a good half an hour trying on the jackets. Funny thing is as I am paying, 1 or 2 of the workers came up to me and said "oh my god, good choice. Are you interested in any of our newest collections?" Like really? When I lived in Brooklyn I basically lived in this place. The prices might be a little high, but you get what you pay for, and you should know if you are walking in there it isn't going to be cheap. Which is good, because there is never any lines, nor are there the masses that you run in to in a dept store. The sales people are very friendly when they know you are going to spend money, they work on commission and I can't blame them for not wasting their time on everyone that just walks in. The selection has always been great, and if you are intending to buy the sales people are more than willing to help. They have some of the best North face selections around as well. To sum it up, if you don't feel like dealing with crazy crowds this holiday season, and like name brands, and don't care about the price than this place is great. If you are on a budget I would strongly recommend against going there. read more

Very nice staff I read these reviews an I'm guessing they changed up there staff members bc they all where very nice an helpful, they all said hello an wanted to assist me. Not sure if it was bc they where bored since the store was dead. When you come in be ready to spend a lot of money, some name brands I feel here was way over priced. I went in looking for a Canada goose jacket an of course they stopped carrying them last year due to low sales. They did have a few more high end goose jackets none on sale. I'm a sale kind of girl but won't mind paying for great quality something that will last an be worth the investment. $1G on a jacket is over the top but is worth the investment if worn for a few years an I'm due for a decent coat. Great store! All the top brands at great prices. Newly renovated with a large new shoe department. Great selection of Moncler outwear for men and women. One of the few private locations in Brooklyn that actually do carry Moncler. They are a little pricey, but for the brands they are offering everything is fairly priced. The owner is a doll, always offering you discounts if he knows you. They also have parties in the store, it's so cool. read more

The store is great to come and look and try clothing and shoes. They have all the trending brands of clothing (paragon, UGG, north face, canada goose). However, the prices here are full price and never on sale. So, come here, try for size or see if you like the product and buy somewhere else for cheaper price or for store discount. I've been here several times over the last month or so to exchange purchases and haven't had any problems. I got store credit twice (for gifts that didn't fit the recipient) and the girls were nothing but helpful. I was in there yesterday and they tried really hard to find something for me that in the end couldn't be accommodated. The store owner is on top of them; it was madness in there yesterday due to a really awesome sale they're having on Uggs and he was making sure everyone was taken care of. The girls were busy as anything! I wouldn't shop here ordinarily but for what I wanted, they delivered. No complaints and I will be returning to use my store credit. read more

Although there are no exchanges to final sales, I was hoping to at least get store credit for the damaged goods. Even though I heard that they charge overpriced I went there since I was looking for a jacket which was more than 500$. But I couldn't find it. I asked them to recommand a jacket for Mountain climbing. Embarrassingly, they said 'why don't you have one of those' with pointing at bunch of winter jackets. If you are looking to buy something from this place don't bother. Not only the prices are high, the employees are just plain rude and racist. At checkout the employee kept telling me that there is no discount on the item. I did not ask if there was a discount at all. Just because I was asian the person repeatedly told me that there is no discount thinking that I would not buy it otherwise. Not sure why these review aren't so great. this is my favorite store!!!! all my friends from long island drive the hour to go here to do all of our shopping! They have every selection of uggs and north face jackets and even moncler. The staff are always super helpful and there is definitely expensive items like high end denim and outerwear, but there is so many cheap and affordable pieces as well! I buy all my basic t-shirts and dresses and leggings here. You can buy a $150 pair of jeans but you could also buy really reasonable pieces from so many different brands. The selection is amazing, great dresses, and different pieces, and all my leggings are from here. Also a great selection of free people! I also got my entire family awesome uggs this winter! Definitely worth checking out, don't forget there sidewalk and midnight sales as well! i definitely never miss those. read more

I was a Downtown customer since the 1980's, until an incident occurred which totally turned me off to this store. Some years ago, I walked by one evening and they appeared to be open for business, a number of people were shopping, so I figured I'd buy a new winter vest. Big mistake, A man was at the door, who asked me if I had an invitation. I told him that I did not, and he informed me that this was a private sale by invitation only, and that I was not allowed to enter. I was so shocked by this, that I've never gone back. Prior to shopping at Downtown this weekend, I noticed there were many negative comments and reviews on Yelp. After shopping there on Saturday I am wondering where all that negativity comes from? The store manager was so nice as well as the sales girls who were very friendly. My daughter got a pair of UGGS for Chanukah so of course she was happy. :) Some items are pricey but then again what isn't expensive these days? All in all I would give them a good review. read more
