Made the appointment and Mike came out to see what I needed, which was toilet and faucet replacement. He was able to do the faucet that day and came back the next day with Ron to do the toilets. Mike answered all of my questions, was friendly and helpful. I worry about my sumo pumps and had several questions for him about that which he answered. Wi read more

Needed my basement shower repaired. They came out the same day, assessed it, gave a quote and repaired it the very next day. It's working great! read more

I can't say strongly enough how happy I am with the service provided. The Sunday before New Year's I found a leak in the basement, tried another Local Company Monday morning who told me possibly they could get to me. Contactedowning and was given a window they showed up promptly and worked several hours trying to fix what ended up being a very complicated issue. Ben and Mike were wonderful they did a great job . And I only gave four stars because the outdoor cleanup could have been a little bit better . As I'm recovering from surgery that was important to me. My home is 100 years old and needs a lot of plumbing repair I'm sure I'll be calling them many more times in the future . read more

The plumber stated that every pipe under my sink was corroded and needed to be replaced. His attitude was not that best but my instincts wouldn't let me use him. I immediately called 2 other plumbers that stated the problem was minor. Problem was resolved with 1 bolt and a washer. Pipes were all cleaned and no corrosion was found. Drownings plumber never thoroughly checked to make a proper diagnosis. They came to me highly recommended that's why I even called in the first place. I'm praying this was an exception to their business standards. read more

Tyler and Scott?. Came out at the time specified. Diagnosed the problem as a clogged line routed it pointed out a fitting that needed to be replaced and explained to us how to do this. Saving us a large labor charge. They have in the past replaced a commode for us. This is the company to use for your plumbing needs. read more

I had a drain blockage that was more than 50 feet in. Downing Plumbing (Ray) responded the day I posted on Angies (early am) and came out the same day. They were able to dislodge the block - but were unable to retrieve their drain cable - apparently it is caught in the house drain backup preventer. Cost for the drain snake process was $385. Had this done 10 years ago for $300, so it seems reasonable. Estimate to replace house drain backup preventer was $4000. I'm currently getting estimates for comparison read more

The came and replaced my water heater, 40 gallon State for $1898.00 I have requested twice that they break down the invoice showing the cost of the heater and the labor separately . they have refused after promising to do so. Please be very wary of this company and be sure to get competitive quotes. I unfortunately did not have the luxury to do so. read more

called Downing plumbing to get my sprinkler system water main pipes fixed since it was leaking. I was at work at the time they came out so my wife facetimed me with him and i told him it was coming out of the top of the unit. He insisted it was coming out from a different area and replaced three inches of pipe for nearly 400.00!! When I got home that night, it was still leaking from where i told him originally and I was out 400! Beware of these guys and read their horrile reviews. Apparently im not the only one who got scammed! read more

We have used this company several times within the last three years and paid quite a bit for their services. We always got good service and problems were resolved. However, after using them several months ago, I would not call them again. They did the work, but 10 minutes after they left there was no hot water coming from the faucet they replaced. I called the same day asking them to come back and fix it and they did so the next day. The plumber that fixed it then accused us of "messing with" the valve under the sink which we DID NOT do. His attitude was like the problem was our fault and he was clearly annoyed that he had to come back again. He actually put on the work ticket that it was customer error. His attitude alone has made my decision to never do business with them again. They should be glad they have any customers at all. read more

Don't use them- go somewhere else. They will rip you off especially if you are a women. They charged me $273.00 to replace 2 Flappers and that was with $25.00 off, They claim its a deal! read more

Downing Plumbing did an excellent job. They worked hard, were courteous and cleaned up after themselves. They even dug a tunnel beneath a huge oak tree so as not to disturb the root system. We would recommend them highly. read more

They were over an hour late and gave me a ridiculous price of $2000 to instal a heater for my pool. After my husband and I called other places the prices were around $400 or cheaper to instal! This company will rip you off badly! I do not recommend using them. read more

Do NOT use this company! The technician came out, did a visual inspection and then wrote an estimate. No tools were used to even verify what was causing the problem. But he 'knew' the problem was $3500. I hope you all put the $69 to good use. read more

I gave this company 2 stars because they came out the same day. Charged me 69 bucks to give me an 800.00 estimate to have a laundry tub installed. The plumber that came out seemed confused about plumbing and was not clear in his explanations. Then he gave me a sheet of paper about going this company's club which he didn't explain either. I would not use this company for any plumbing needs. read more

On Dec. 1st, I had water coming up in the basement and the toilet would not flush, I called Downing plumbing they quoted me a price and told me they have a one year warranty on there work. The guy came out and after doing the work told me he would not warranty the work. On Dec. 17th I had the same problem, they did come out again and did not charge me because they had just been out on the 1st. When he was leaving he told me that if they had to come out again there would be another charge. Then on Christmas Eve the problem returned at that point I called Roto-Rooter plumbing they came out fixed the problem the FIRST time and warrantied the work. I will NEVER use or recommend Downing plumbing! A job that cost $657.89 (two plumbers) should have only cost $212.89! read more

These guys are amazing!!!! Second plumber I had out in a month for a backed up toilet. These guys came out the same day, the other guys had me wait 2 days. The other plumbing company wanted me to replace piping, Downing told me they thought it was tree roots and they were correct. Within a few hours my toilet was running as good as new. They also caught my run away dog!! read more

Ridiculously expensive. First, I paid a $69.00 trip charge from Michigan City to Beverly Shores. Then I was charged an additional $118.00 to replace a toilet flapper which costs no more than $5.00 and if it took him 7 minutes at most. What a rip. I told him so and he had a definite attitude. Time's up. Not the kind of company I want to deal with. Additionally, they wear these stupid looking shirts with a huge "Daffy Duck" emblem on the back. Classless. read more

I will never use them again. was quoted one price over the phone for a drain cleaning when the plumber showed up 30 minutes late and added on another $125. Every other plumber I called was cheaper then the original price quoted on the phone and then to have the extra money added on made it just outrageous. And on top of that I have seen dead people move faster then this Plummer read more

The drain from the bath tub upstairs was leaking down stairs into the kitchen area. There is a drop ceiling down stairs, so access was easy from below. Had Downing come out for an estimate last month. The plumber came in, looked at the job and was not sure of the work needed to be done. He said he had to go to his truck to make estimates of the repairs needed. After a long period of time he got back to me with two estimates and a weird scenario. The first was for the drain repair itself for $480. The second was a price of $480 (drain) plus $280 for some extra work he might have to do. The weird scenario was "he said that he might crack or break the bath tub making the repairs" and I would have to buy a new tub on top of everything else. Now I am an avid DIY guy so imagine the look on my face when I heard all of this crap. So after telling him to take a hike, I called Whiting plumbing, he came out, made the repairs in less then 2 hours and charged me $215 for the new drain, line and trap. Oh ya, Downing charged me a $69 service charge that would not have been removed even if they did the work!!! I will never use, call or recommend Downing to anyone! Kevin read more

My husband and I have hired Downing Plumbing to do a big project putting in drain tile and a sewer. They had a few challenges when it came to finishing with weather and our irrigation system. I gave Downing/Benjamin Franklin Plumbing a 1 because they simply do not stand behind their claims. I was told the plumber would arrive between 11 and 1 p.m. by the lady who answered the phone. The plumber did not arrive until 1:55 p.m. CST, almost an hour past the promised 2 hour window. I had to call Downing to get a status update as the window began to close, there was no pro-activity at all. Based upon the Benjamin Franklin slogan of "If There's Any Delay, It's You We Pay.®" I thought I would receive some sort of discount, reimbursement or even an apology, no kind of follow up or apology was offered. I even called the Downing Plumbing/Benjamin Franklin office and spoke with another lady and voiced my concerned. She said she would have her supervisor call me to address my concerns. The service was completed 12/2/16 and I still have not heard from anyone, until this survey. I was in a pinch and had a bad leak. I joined the Duck Club for a discount, but I still may or may not use the service again. Definitely was service below my expectations. read more
