New to the area and need a cut. Been here twice now, first time around I asked for a 0 low fade, the girl probably misheard me and gave me a 1 low fade. No big deal, she did a decent fade. Second time around, shop didn't open till 20-25 minutes past opening. Two barbers to cut and I was fifth person in. No big deal, I need a cut so nothing to do but wait. I get the Waldo looking skinny tall guy with glasses and a beanie. I should have known better when the two other guys passed up on this guy...smh. Wanted a low taper, ended up with an uneven looking fade that went all the way up the back of my head. Didn't even blend in my hair, have hairs sticking up now cause he took the fade up too high. Worse part is the back of my neck is as crooked as those email scams that start off with "Dear Sir/Madam I have a billion dollars to give you but need your account" AND the hack job gave me a few nicks/burn on my neck. Where they find this guy...seriously needs to learn how to line up the neck line straight at least if your fades aren't on point. Need to put some Neosporin on that ish now smh. Lesson of the story, avoid the tall skinny guy with glasses, they sometimes run late on shop hours, the other barbers are probably legit but avoid this hack job unless you want some burns and crooked neck line. read more

This is a classic Men's barbershop (except for the times that someone brings their chick with them). The shop was recently remodeled. It's got that modern look but with a classic barbershop feel. I like what they did too it. If your looking for a clean and classic look, this is the place for you. They don't do line ups or razor parts so if your looking for that, you'll be disappointed. I suggest you comeback after you've gotten over it. Stubble belongs on your face, not your forehead or your part. If you want to get that sharp parted look, Victor can show you how to get that look with a comb and some pomade. If you're looking for a good barber, I would recommend Dave's. Victor has been lowering my ears for close to two years now. Any of the other Barbers are well capable of giving you a good cut, Zac and Cholo (Eric) have filled in when Victor wasn't available. Dave will let you know that he cuts Seniors and toddlers ( 5 or 50+) only but I've had him cut my hair a time or two. They also keep a good variety of product from pomade, combs and beard oils and balms. If you are looking for that stuff you can find it here and eventually get a cut. After cutting my luscious lion's mane I had to find a barber to keep my short hair looking sharp. After putting off getting a cut for a while, the desire struck my while I was at work. I searched "best barber Downey" and found Dave's at the very top. Dave's was just down the street which made it a match made in heaven. I walked in and was greeted by the guys. I had seen great words here on Yelp about Zack and by chance that is exactly who I got. Being that it was only my second or third time at a Barber since being a kid I didn't know the proper lingo to describe what i wanted. Zack was super accommodating and patient as he educated me on what to say after I described what I wanted. Since that first time I have been back many times. I don't always get to go in as frequently as I would like as I live in a different city, but I am always happy whenever I get to go in and see the guys, because I know that I will always be leaving with an excellent cut. read more

Went in very optimistic after looking at some of the photos of previous clients and also photos of how cool the spot looked. No wait when I showed up, which was great. I just never hoped I would be let down so much by this spot. The price of a hair cut is $20, $40 dollars for a cut AND shave?! That's ridiculous based of the skill level of the barber I got. Must had been his first day. He took an hour on a simple medium fade, which came out looking more like a high fade. Don't know why he kept going over the same spot on my head. He left small patches of hair on top of my left ear. He never cleaned the hair off my face while he cut it and didn't clean it when he was done. I was left will all this hair on my face, neck and ears. Dude was a nice guy but definitely a rookie. He was not confident with the job he had done one me, and it showed on his face. It's just sad, I was really looking forward to this being a solid spot I could go for a nice haircut. But I could say I know of places that do a better job for half the price. If I wanted to humiliate the barber, I could have described him and told everyone not to get a haircut with him. I personally don't feel it's completely his fault since he has other experienced individuals who can assist him, and not let the customer leave with a bad haircut. I wasn't fully aware my haircut was bad until I got home to look at it. I don't want a refund, I know you guys are a tight-knit shop, so all I ask is to look out for each other if a bad cut is walking out the door. Vic is a down-to-earth individual who is grinding and hustling daily, and I respect he is trying to make things right by giving refunds and fixing cuts to me and other Yelp reviewers who weren't satisfied, so I respect that. I won't let one bad cut ruin the positive experiences I have received from Dave's barbershop, so I will raise my 1 star to a 5 star. -------------------------------- Original post: My haircut was terrible, top 1 on one of the worst I have ever had. I have been coming here for years, I am NOT a regular and haven't built a relationship with any of the barbers. I don't show up weekly or monthly, but I have received plenty of haircuts from pops, son, and other misc barbers with no issues. My barber was just terrible with his scissors, clippers, and fade work. It was also tough for him to understand when I mentioned, "I want a fairly low fade on the sides and not too high." Don't ask me what type of haircut I want, if your inexperience already decided on my finished product, a rooster flattop, high taper, opposite-of-what-I-asked-for-haircut. When my haircut was finished, the mirror presentation was like a bad case of Parkinson's. He knew his finish product was trash, so he shook the mirror so much I wasn't able to take a good look at it. I never had any shop issues before, I trusted him, so I paid + tipped, and walked out. I walked out with confidence, feeling good, and ready to take on my day, after I trim my beard and hit the shower. I got home, grabbed my clippers to trim my beard, and I look in the mirror. Holy Terror Batman!!! I looked like my head fell onto a lawnmower that had dull blades. I looked like I used nair shampoo for 10 minutes and washed it off. I looked like a sucked on lollipop that fell onto a carpet. My haircut was patchy from top to bottom. I had long hairs behind my ear, one sideburn was close to bald and the other was about a one clip, my right side fade was much higher than my left, and the top of my head had the finished product of Kramer from Seinfeld. I acted quickly and slapped a #1 clip and started to to fix it myself. I believe anyone who has a full beard owns a pair of cheap clippers and has experience fading/trimming their hair/beard. Anyway, long story short, I tried my best with my clippers, and a hat ultimately fixed my haircut. Protip: if there are 4 barbers on duty and plenty of customers waiting for certain barbers, don't get a haircut with the barber that aggressively approaches you with no clientele. There is a high possibility that the barber who just approached you has little to no work because he is handing out lollipops-that-fell-onto-the-carpet-haircuts. One last note: One thing that was upsetting, the owner was in the shop looking and reorganizing, if the haircut is not up to standards, stop and correct or give advice to the more inexperienced barbers. The room is brightly lit and a terrible cut can be spotted by everyone in the room, or at least almost everyone. More barbers = more profit. I get it, but these guys need to meet the standards of the shop to make new and old customers return. read more
