Simply the best! They took down a 120 ft tree and roots. A great job. My pavers in certain areas needed to be leveled. They showed up the following day and fixed the leveling. A few hours later I noticed water percolating under a paver. I called Downes and without me begging they sent someone to look and on Sunday a crew showed up and repaired it. In 50 years of dealing with tree contractors they were the nicest and quickest to resolve issues. Do not hesitate to hire them. BTW their prices are lower than other quotes I got. read more

The only reason i'm giving 1 star is because i can't put 0. Don't be surprised if you hire them and someone has an accident in front of your house, as they let cars drive "slow" on both directions on one lane as they fully block the other one! Total insanity. Downes was quick to respond to my request for quote. Kevin came by to inspect my trees and provide an estimate for the different services we discussed. He was very knowledgeable about the different types of trees and their health. I quickly received the quotes back from him and moved forward to schedule service as the price seemed very reasonable. They got started the following week. The people that showed up to do the work were nice. We ran into one problem where the truck they brought was not long enough to reach one of the oak trees in my backyard so they could not complete the job that day. However, they did come back the following week as Kevin said they would and completed the job. We also had two stumps grinded and they showed up one week later to finish that. They did leave about an 8 inch deep impression in my back yard from one of the machines, but back filled that when they did the stump grinding. All-in-all i was very happy with the speed, quality, price and experience working with Downes and would used them again if needed. read more

had a huge tree removed in our backyard by Downs Tree Service. Tom and Victor and rest of the Crue are amazing. They came prior to removal date, made a path for their equipment on the side of our yard, which was overgrown and had an arbor. On the day of removal they protected the grass with plywood as much as possible and worked 9 hours to remove our gigantic Tulip tree. It was all done with the small equipment which fit to go on the narrow side of our yard. They also trimmed all dead and Brocken branches from the adjacent trees. After they left the yard was clean like nothing happened. Couple days later Tom showed up by the door and brought the staff to repair the fence which was disassembled before the job. They came and ground the stump and promised to come back and fill all the holes and reseed the grass which was damaged. I'm very impressed, great communication with Scott and his crew. I called last Thursday, got an onsite consultation and my quote via email the following day. The work started after the weekend on Monday and the 5 man crew was extremely professional. Last fall I had another tree service come to remove a dead tree, sadly they wouldn't budge on helping us out with this last "window-maker" limb. Now that spring is around the corner we found even more of our neighbors trees to be a problem. I had about 6 estimators come to my home but Scott was highly detailed in explaining what the problem, why it's important to my family and how they would address it. Gladly though, the 60 limb wasn't a problem for this crew. The crew worked safely (huge relief) and did a great job cleaning up the yard and even the curb before they left. the only reason I am giving one star is because in order to give u the following advice I had to pick a star .. these people are very unprofessional and rude , the workers as well as the phone operators. all they r doing is cutting down branches but they end up breaking stuff that they never plan on replacing and my property is not even the one being worked on . how horrible is that!? My neighbor and I each had Downes remove some old trees in our yards. Each of the two crews each was professional in every sense of the work and their work was impeccable. They arrived on time (actually a bit early but did not bother us until the scheduled time) and worked constantly. They had heavy equipment for my neighbor's yard and (in tight quarters) has smaller equipment for ours. They cleaned up every bit of wood and anyone who wants excellent work at an debris. This is a comment on their snow plowing, not on their tree service. I understand there alot of snow and the streets need to be plowed, but my husband and I were out shoveling the apron of the driveway , and Downe's came and deposited all the snow right where we just shoveled. Great service! I highly recommend them. The estimate was comparable to others I got. The team of 4 worked hard for 5 hours doing everything in our estimate and more. There was no extra charge for additional trimming i spotted when they were here. All trees were well trimmed by men either climbing way up into the trees or from a bucket truck. Mike came out quickly to give us a quote and although his was not the cheapest we decided to go with them because they seemed to be organized and know what they were doing (Good reviews on Angie's List helped too!). VERY professional and kept to their schedule and estimate.This company delivered everything on the estimate and beyond.They were here when scheduled,and did a complete job.I had two trees crowned and trimmed back, and this company delivered on time and on estimate.I asked to have larger branches stacked on the side so I could make firewood.Not only did they stack it neatly,but cut it to 18" logs so I could split it for burning.(Did not expect that)Also,I left some mulch in their way in the driveway and they spread it out over the landscape for me. We purchased about 100 yards of topsoil from Downes. It is FILLED with tiny gravel. Our grass is struggling to grow around all of the tiny gravel. After the first rainfall, the soil compacted down into a hard crust that repels water. Each load was delivered by a grumpy driver who was seemingly annoyed by the inconvenience of the order. Will never use again and would never recommend to anyone. What a complete waste of thousands of dollars. read more
