This place is really...Down the line!
    Anthony M.

This review was going to be 4 stars until we met Jim (if that is really his name), the security guard at "Down the Line". I understand that every business needs a "Strong Force" but I believe in customer service and I also believe that management may need to send Jim to some training on how to be sensitive to customers. Also we attended the May 9, 2012, Cubs vs Braves game at 1:20pm. We first met Jim at 12:18pm and he informed us we would not be entering the building for another 10 minutes. Okay fine ...I do not make the rules but it clearly stated that this venue would open 60 minutes prior to game time. So if I pulled out my calculator then the doors should be opening at 12:20pm for a 1:20pm game. We were first in line, so I did not care to make a big deal about it. In fact, I did not even know Jim's name at this point. I will jump ahead to 3:30pm...the Cubs win over the Atlanta Braves 1-0...everyone is happy. Jim who I haven't seen for 3 hours tells us we have to leave. I look at Jim and say, "According to the website we are allowed to remain at the venue for 30 minutes after the final out." Jim looks at me and ignores my comment and walks away. At that point I knew Jim was not my friend. Also, I must point out that I never got disrespectful with Jim...I just clearly nicely asked him questions and he refused to answer me back. There were several other people on the roof still, so I figured I would just enjoy the view of the park and the warm sun. I was a little mad that Jim did not acknowledge my statement about it being 30 minutes prior to the final out. The only reason I point this out is because prior to purchasing the tickets I had to agree to all of the terms of "Down the Line" which included such things as if it was rained out I would not get my money back. The one thing in the contract I agreed to was that I had to leave "Down the Line" 30 minutes after the final out. I am fine with that but does Jim know what the legal contract says? Honestly I do not think so!!! Jim stayed within eye shot of me and at 3:48pm he came back up to us and said, "Okay we are closed you have to leave!" Now I was a little mad that Jim never responded to my first comment about it being 30 minutes prior to the final out and I asked him again. He said, "You still have to leave the building!" I said, "Jim I am fine with that but it does not take me 12 minutes to walk down the stairs!" He said, "Well you have to get off of the roof!" I asked him about the 30 minutes and he informed me that he was a cop and he was going to show me his badge. I said, "Please show me your badge!" Of course that did not happen. I am sure that the Chicago Police would love to know that Jim is impersonating a police officer! So we took it to the 3rd floor...we hit the bathroom and Jim was staring at us the whole time. We walked down the stairs and were at the bottom of the stairs at 3:56pm...still 4 minutes before we had to leave. Jim came up behind me and said, "You can't take your beer with you!" I said, "Fine I will finish it!" And as I was drinking my beer...Jim grabbed my glass and crushed it in my face! Honestly I should have called the police at that point and pressed charges. Jim is a jerk and he ruins this place. I understand that someone has to be the "Bad Security Guy" but Jim took it too far. The rooftop was empty. In fact, they probably only had 30 people up here. Yes it was not a good day for this business because they were not even close to capacity. I just do not like it when an employee takes it above the law and I was only following the rules I agreed to when I purchase the tickets . I hope management reads this and understands that Jim was not a nice guy or a good representative for this business. We also met the manager, Todd. He was such a nice guy. He went above and beyond to make our Cubs game an amazing experience. Jim did not follow the rules that I agreed to on the "Down the Line" website and I have a problem with that. I hope that management understands this is not acceptable. I agreed to everything on the contract but when I questioned my rights to Jim...he ignored me. Please review how he treats customers before he takes his authority too far.

Great view of the score board

This was my first rooftop experience and there's ups and downs mostly downs. The place was lively, great music, young people good beer selection and good food. The view as you might have heard sucks. Your pretty much can see the batter and visiting bullpen. The tvs are 30 secs delayed so if your a really watching the game your gonna b confused. This is a great spot to hangout get drunk for social cubs fans, but real cubs fans like me will pass. Go to another rooftop!

After reading some not so positive reviews, I wanted to post about my experience. My wife and I attended a Cubs game on 9/7/2014 and chose Down the Line due to its price and Groupon offer. We had a great time! The staff was nice and accommodating, the view awesome, the food great, and we got our money's worth out of the alcohol alone. In addition we had no issues with seating....my point; don't always believe what you read. Great place that I highly recommend!

Seats aren't the best. Definitely better locations for a full view, but you can see the batter and pitcher.
    Pamela H.

Seating arrangements are set up more for parties and hanging out, instead of watching the game. Food is ok, beer selection is good. The TV is about 20 seconds behind which is slightly annoying. But the price was hard to pass up with a Groupon. The access is in the back.

Notice that no one has a seat.

From the ivy-covered outfield walls to the hand-operated scoreboard, it feels like you're stepping into a different era of baseball. If you're someone who appreciates the roots of the game, this place delivers in a way newer stadiums just can't replicate. The seating is part of that uniqueness too. It's not your typical modern setup, and that's both a pro and a con. Some sections feel incredibly close to the action, almost like you're part of the game. But because of the stadium's age, there are support beams (poles) that can block your view if you're not careful with your seats. It's part of the old-school charm, but definitely something to be aware of when booking so you don't end up with an obstructed view. What really adds to the experience is everything around the stadium in Wrigleyville. The whole neighborhood feels like an extension of the ballpark--bars, restaurants, and crowds of fans all flowing together before and after the game. It's lively without feeling overwhelming, and it makes the whole outing more than just a game--it's an event. Overall, between the history, the unique character, and the atmosphere inside and outside the park, this is an easy 5 star experience and a must-visit if you're into baseball or iconic venues.

The arena itself is just a little better than a high school gym. It's small with stadium bleacher seating on both sides of the court. There are electronic score boards on both sides and a large screen that shows the game. I'm not sure the purpose of the screen since the arena is small enough where watching the actual court is better than looking at a vibrant screen. The sound system was fabulous. It was easy to hear the lively announcer. There was a concession stand that was nicely staffed outside of the arena; however, the small space was easily congested. There was also a table that sold t-shirts. Tickets for the games are inexpensive. We were able to get two seats (and they were assigned seats) to a sold out game. Unfortunately, we were disappointed to find that there was a DePaul student already in one of our seats. We showed her that she was in our seat and she only scooched over a little on the bench so that the two of us could squeeze into one seat space with my posterior hanging off the end. The girl explained that students are allowed to get into the games for free and that they are allowed to sit wherever they like despite folks who have paid tickets for assigned seats. It was extremely uncomfortable to sit on a cramped bleacher in that fashion. Additionally there was little leg room. My knees often touched the back of the person in front of me. I'm a small person so I can't imagine a tall person having to squish into the space. On the plus side, I appreciated that the cheerleaders, the dance team, and the band were all there to provide entertainment during time-outs and half-time.
