If you're looking for a fun experience to do with the family Thompson Farm has different picking seasons. We went for the strawberries. You get a basket and go and pick your berries. You pay for the basket at the end. Which is nice because I was able to get all my daycare kiddos their own basket and we just combined them into one. The staff is friendly that leads you to wear you park. Going during the week is cheaper to enter and less crowded. They have a snack stand for purchase. Bathrooms are portable pottys. A fun time was had.

The cost of the farm was above average for the area, these experience play farms like Thompson and Jerry Smiths have entrance fees and then additional fees for some attractions inside. Thompsons once inside is a fee for horse rides, feeding goats, pumpkins, and of course food and drinks. We attended during a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I would suspect due to the entrance fee of $15 per person over 3years old the farm was not as busy as I would have thought it would be. There is lot to do for the kids with what looks like new play equipment. For such a high price i would have thought at least throw in a free pumpkin or something. The other thing that would find interesting is there is not free reentery the same day. They do take cash and credit cards throughout the venue. All the workers were friendly and helpful. Right amount of staff for supervision. Overall I give it two stars for value, 5 stars for things to do and for the live music.

Another year, another great experience at Thompson Farm! This has quickly become one of our favorite annual traditions. It is so fun to wander acres of pumpkins, picking every single one you like. It is well worth the drive from Madison. The only thing that was somewhat disappointing to see this year was the $15 entry fee per person. While the new area of activities for kids looked amazing, it would be nice if the entry fee was only for people using that area. Since it's completely fenced off this seems like something that would be doable. For us it was just added cost for our pumpkins. We look forward to visiting again next year!

Simply beautiful, a place full of peace and harmony, you can walk and relax. The girls who serve are very friendly, I would recommend it 100%.

We decided to stop in a Saturday morning for the sunflowers. We were not sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The cost is $15 per person to cut as many flowers that will fit into a tall plastic cup they supply. Tip- bring your own scissors or shears! The sunflowers were in full bloom and the maze is a great opportunity to see them. There are photo ops along the way. I was amazed how many flowers fit into the cup. The wildflowers were in full bloom and gorgeous. There was a taco truck and music duo providing entertainment. You can easily spend an hour and half here, even a bit longer. They do have raspberry and pumpkin picking in a different area, for an additional fee. It enjoyed this, much more than I expected.

Kinda expensive just to pick flowers but when the sunflowers were in bloom it's nice to take pictures. They have different " station" where you can take pictures including a cute blue/turquoise table with chairs. You can also bring your own scissors or pay $3 for a new one. There was only 1 person at the stand as cashier and she was nice but we did come here on a Thursday.

The taste of summer Went to the strawberry farm for the first time to pick berries and it was so fun! Honestly I didn't even imagine I would have this much of a blast picking fruit but really it was honestly a blast! Everyone who works there was so nice and the berries were so ripe and ready! We didn't realize 4 quarts were so much but we're enjoying eating it everyday!:) we really recommend this experience if you are wondering if you should do it, you should!! see you next year!!!

Went with the boyfriend on Labor Day to take photos and visit their Sunflower Field. The farm was easy to find. When you get their, you pay for admission, then keep driving and follow the arrows. At first, you will see a some sunflowers and the corn maze. Keep driving further down the road and you'll see the 'entrance" of the sunflower fields. They mention they do plant different batches of sunflowers at different times. There will always be sunflowers blooming in some of the fields. I think by labor day, it is getting to the tail end of it. There were still lots of very pretty and bright sunflowers to see but there were also lots of droopy ones too. Next time, I will definitely try and go in mid to late August. $12 per person for admission to the sunflower field. Because it was labor day, each person gets to "pick your own" 12 flowers to take home! Normally i think it is only 6 flowers. Don't forget to bring scissors to cut the sunflowers! They do sell scissors if you forget your own. They also have a couple photo op places setup for people. I love the piano! Because it was just the two of us, I ended up bringing a tiny selfie stick that turns into a standing tripod. I was able to take lots of very pretty photos of us with the sunflowers in the background without having to ask any one for help. We had a really fun time just walking around the field and enjoying the fresh air. Will be back again next year!

Came here in late summer/early fall to enjoy a day in the sunshine surrounded by sunflowers. And, to pick a few too, of course. It was a wonderful outing during COVID times when wonderful outings that are also socially distant are hard to find. It was a pretty simple deal. You drive up, pay, and are able to pick yourself a bouquet of sunflowers. A few things to note: +When we arrived, it looked as though the sunflowers were spent. They actually have many sunflower fields and they're all planted at different times, which means they bloom at different times as well. We could only see a couple of the fields, so we thought there were very few left. Not so! +You'll want to bring something to cut the stems. +Bringing a bucket wouldn't be a bad idea either. They do have plastic to put the flowers in, but sunflowers are large and somewhat cumbersome. I wished I'd have thrown a small bucket in the back seat for transport. +As you may see from reviews (and their name), they're also a strawberry farm. And, they had a small field of other colorful flowers to pick. Really, it's just a lovely spot to enjoy the outdoors, snap some pics, and pick some flowers and maybe some strawberries. What's not to love?

Came here with my husband and our friends on Sunday, and it was so fun! Initially when we were looking for a place to go that had sunflower field, we were looking for a place with a good aethetic and photo ops (which this place 100% has), but the awesome thing about here is they also have a delicious taco truck with fresh food, AND had someone playing acoustic guitar. It was a little misty and cold when we first got here, so it made it a little hard to enjoy everything because there is no where to get shelter except a little tented seating area by the taco truck, but it cleared up and became a bit warmer. Bring shoes you're willing to get dirty and muddy. I literally asked the taco truck worker for plastic bags to tie around my shoes and he was so nice and helpful to provide. He even asked if I wanted tape haha. So many people stopped me and said how smart I was (even though I looked so stupid!) LOL The sunflower maze has cute photo areas, but the flowers themselves create a beautiful backdrop on their own. For $15 a person, you get to pick as many flowers as you want and fit them in a tall souvenir cup. The price isn't bad at all and this place is such a cute date place. If you enjoy nature, you'll love it, but if you are expecting a ton of other things to do, this may not be your cup of tea. We didn't go to the other part of the farm, but they also have a Strawberry field (I'm allergic to strawberries so we skipped that part!). This farm has specific times they have raspberries and a pumpkin patch, too! I believe that starts in October. I thoroughly enjoyed coming here, and everyone in our group loved it. My husband and I will for sure be back, but hopefully next time on a beautiful dry and sunny day! I also LOVE and appreciate locally and family owned businesses =)

Hip hip hooray for strawberry farms!! Who boo!! This place is about 40 mins from Chicago and there is parking. It is not that difficult to find. I came here with my mom and aunt to pick strawberries on a Tuesday (intentionally) to avoid crowds and busy lines. I was really glad we did because there were a lot less people and they were really spaced out so you didn't feel overwhelmed or like people didn't keep their distance. The strawberry fields were a little wet because of rain the night before but it wasn't overwhelming or that you couldn't walk the fields- they had straw on the ground so even women with wedges or small heels were okay! My little guy absolutely loved this experience so I HIGHLY recommend taking your babies. He picked strawberries, he walked and crawled up and down the fields and he just got messy but he loved it. If you're looking for a place to wear your kid out, this is it!! They'll have so much fun! The strawberries were ripe and they were ideal for picking. They weren't too small but they also weren't too big. We just got one basket because we honestly didn't need more- I planned to have my little guy eat the strawberries but also make jam from it. Depending on how quickly you move, we managed to pick a basket of strawberries between three adults in 15 mins but if you're looking alone and being really picky, it may take you a lot longer! This one lady picked 7 baskets and it took her 5 hours. You pay on the way out and they take cash or card! It's $14 per basket- if you buy 6, your 7 is free! It is definitely a kid friendly place and one I would recommend anyone to visit!

My daughter and I had such a fun afternoon with our friends at this little pick-your-own farm. We attended the Butterflies in Sunflowers event where you can purchase a live butterfly to set free for $2 and pick your own flowers for $15 (this covers adult admission and you get a cute little souvenir cup or put your flowers in). Children under 2 are free. There was a small stand where you could purchase $2 sunglasses or $3.50 gatorades and a taco truck next to a tent with live music. I highly recommend wearing sneakers and pants as my legs were pretty scratched up and our feet were FILTHY afterwards, but totally worth it, as my 20 month old daughter didn't want to leave! Great photo opportunity, and they do have a small photo package you can purchase while you're there (we took our own, obvi). Fair warning, THERE ARE A LOT OF BEES. This is a giant field full of flowers, so they are to be expected. Respect their space, and you'll be fine ;)

THEY'RE ALSO A WEDDING VENUE!…read more I would not recommend using! The venue itself is unique and definitely fun for people who love the farm and animals. I got married here in November of 2019. When I first went to see the place I loved it, the owner even seemed pretty down to earth and easy going she talked about all the success she's had with previous couples and how she really got to know them. Well, after I signed my contract and paid my deposit, it couldn't have been more different! I had to contact her multiple times to even get a response. Usually a text a few days after my initial call or text "hey did you get my message" I would contact her about once a month with questions or to pay her, so it's not like I was some sort of crazy picky bridezilla. During my engagement I was working full time another part time job and planning the wedding, the owner was of zero help. Until the week before the wedding then most of my questions were answered in a timely manner. READ THE CONTRACT! I ended up paying a little over $7,500 JUST FOR THE VENUE FOR THE DAY!!!! You will be nickled and dimed for everything EVEN FOOD TO FEED THE ANIMALS! The day before the wedding and the morning of the wedding the pipes in the bathroom were frozen. We planned to get ready in the provided barns which they put some space heaters in the one for the bride that barely kept it warm. The groomsmen waited until just shortly before the wedding to go in that provided barn since it was so cold. The bathroom is a trailer that was quite a distance from the barn where your reception is (or where you get married during inclement weather.) On our particular wedding the floors in the bathroom were not kept mopped so, I had multiple guests slip in the bathroom, one had actually mentioned it to the owner and she just said "okay" and then did nothing about it. The barn where the wedding and the reception were was not heated very well either so I had guests wearing coats the entire time and even leaving early because they were so cold. We were also charged a $200 fee taken out of our damage deposit for the heat, that really didn't seem to be working. The owner also stepped on the bottom of my dress as I was walking into the barn and left a muddy shoe print on the bottom of my dress right before I was to walk down the aisle. I will say at that point there would've been nothing we could do to clean it off since there is no running water in the barn, and it was ceremony time, but she could've at least aknowledged it later and compensated me somehow for it. I'm attaching a picture! I will say a positive was one of the employees Megan, she was so kind and helpful throughout the wedding, she offered to get me drinks and even helped with clean up. She was there till the end while THE OWNER WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!!! I felt bad for her since many of the things had gone wrong were out of her control. IF I WAS REVIEWING JUST HER SHE WOULD GET 10 STARS! Since the wedding I have contacted the owner regarding these issues to try and get my money back for at least the heat that we were charged for that wasn't even working adequately. I work in the service industry and I understand we can't always please everyone, and things can go wrong, but It's necessary to aknowledge them and let the people you're serving know that and try to make them better somehow. I'm really an easy going person, and especially a bride. At the end of the day I got to marry the man of my dreams and the love of my life! so that aspect of the day went perfectly. I wish I knew a little more about the particular venue and other people's experiences before I booked it, so I do hope that this information helps a future bride.

I saw a Facebook ad for a combination goat hang out and brewery flight (via the Fever app "Brews and Baahhs"). My two favorite things!! (ha ha) So I bought the tickets and was not disappointed. It was one-hour with the goats, then you went to One Lake Brewing down the street afterward for a free flight (and we ended up buying dinner). The owner, David, was there and chit-chatted and answered some questions. Then did a few things around the property while we just hung out and petted the goats. I have never had such an up close and personal experience with a goat. They are a lot like dogs. They were hilarious and very affectionate. They wanted to climb all over us but we were prepared for that. It's a shame that David mentioned they might only be doing this for a year or two more. I'm sure it's a lot to maintain, especially during these crazy times. -But it's very covid safe. For what we did, you can wear your mask and you are left alone with the goats in a huge open pasture - so it's not a people-crowded event. I highly recommend it - it was a lot of fun. In case the number is not on the profile - he gave me a card with contact info: 847-226-9510; glennartfarm.com for more info.
