Three stars all the way for Down the hatch. We went to down the hatch for Sunday fun day. For $23 you get all you can eat wings and 3 pitchers of beer. You go directly to the bar for the beer, so no wait. Just make sure you tip then, service is much better when you tip them. The food part of the deal is what brings the rating down. The wings are not bad and the fries are actually pretty good. The onion rings are okay. The only issue is, you need to order the food from the creepy Indian guy, so always looks at you odd after you order, then points at the tip jar. If no tip, then no food. Even when you tip, you need to go up several times, and repeatedly ask for the food. I ordered 4 rounds of wings, and finally one showed up. If they got rid of the creepy Indian guy, and was better with the service of the food, definitely would be five stars. Right now a solid 3. read more

Plenty of big screens, tables, and standing areas for large groups! Friendly staff and all-around fun place to be. Bathrooms (the women's specifically) is really gross. I went to this bar sometime last semester with a few friends and some guy that I would like to bury in my past; but unlike the suppressed memory of that unmentionable guy I never mentioned in the a bit ago this place is actually memorable and I would like to revisit someday. The crowd isn't bad, the beers are cold, and I heard the food isn't too tough to take and it doesn't get any more Village than this place. The music isn't good loud either so you can actually have a conversation with someone! I would definitely go back. As one would have it everyone that goes to this bar is somehow affiliated with NYU. Really not what I was hoping for. I went here with my roommate to watch football last Sunday. Pretty disappointed. I went because of the $21 3 pitcher, all you can eat wings special. I wish I had spent 40 more and gone to a place where I could 1) sit, 2) watch the games on nicer/bigger TVs, 3) see more than one game at once, 4) get the type of wings I ordered and bleu cheese with them and 5) not feel like I was in a Soviet bread line every time I went to order wings. This review is for Atomic Wings in Down the Hatch. We used to order here all the time. We loved the suicidal wings and my boyfriend even hotter. I am not sure what happened but we ordered wings tonight (Dec 1 2014) and they were awful. Like tangy makes you want to spew it back out awful. Forget spice level--hot or not, the flavor was awful. Did I say awful? I will say their tots and gravy are still good. But one can't mess up tots and gravy too much. We contemplated calling them but I figure yelping is better. While living in NYC, my school buddies and I would end up here at least every other week. We used to do the weekends too for the all you can eat. Am I dating myself by saying it was $11 all you can eat wings and all you could drink domestics? The most fratastic of all the frat bars in the city and I mean that as a compliment. That said, this isn't the place to go if you feel like having a demure and sophisticated evening. This is where you go to live (or relive) your college experience, play beer pong, and go a little crazy. This is much like many of the UWS bars that this group runs, Jake's Dilemma, Gin Mill, etc. The prices are pretty standard, but this bar is set in a small space with a bit of a claustrophobic low ceiling. I almost don't have any complaints except that it's not wheelchair accessible. Of course I understand why but it stinks that some friends cant go to such an amazing bar. The best Happy Hour on the weekend hands down! From 12-5 Pay 25 and it's all you can eat wings, beer, and margarita. Plus the set up of place awesome because it can accommodate large group or just you and a buddy. Ton of TVs around for an awesome game watching experience. This was stop #2 on our NYC Best Bars (nyc bro bars) pub crawl. It is aptly named as this is a basement bar--ugh. Their Sunday drink special was solid--half off draughts and $4 J shots. Because I had a long pub crawl ahead of me, I decided to go for a Blue Moon. This bar won "Best Music" for the night, because for the one drink we were there for they played both Nirvana and Alanis. This is a kind of fun place with some great drink specials. The beer pong tables are fun, but get there early if you want to play. The wings (from Atomic Wings), are really great, but I hate that you have to go up to the window to order them while the waitress only takes drink orders? huh?? Before I go on a rant I will say that the wings are amazing, but now thats the only good thing about this place. The worst part about this is that I use to love going here, but recently the bar has been horrific. The bartenders use to be friendly people but last time there I dealt with more snide jack offs than anything else. They have changed the specials on saturday as well, its still $1 beers from 7-9 but they limit two beers per order for a person. There were 6 of us in a group and I was trying to get 2 beers for all of us. (Meaning 12 beers) The first guy gave me grief about it but once I pointed out the group I was with he filled the order. The next guy, some long greasy haired little jackass, refused to even bother. Whats worse is a friend of ours only ordered 2 $1 beers and pitcher that equaled up to $9 but the bill they gave him came out to $17. When we tried to resolve the bill the greasy haired douche told us once it was in the computer it couldn't be changed. We asked if a manager could fix, and he responded by telling us he was the manage. That may or may not be true but what I know for certain is they lost our business. Down the Hatch has a few good deals and if you haven't gone I will say go once just for the wings, but never again. There are so many bars in the area that are better that this place now, which is a crying shame. read more

I am going to mirror Jonathan G's review. Why, you ask? Well first of all, I was with him, so it seems plausible that I would have a similar experience. I too was inappropriately drunk and probably exclaimed numerous times how great it was that there was hardly an NYU brat in sight. My already horrible foosball skills disintegrated even more as the pitchers kept getting emptied. However, this is only a small price to pay for the fact that there was foosball there in the first place. I hope this place has good specials on Sundays...
