Ruffins II The Clubhouse in Baker, just outside Baton Rouge, is a hidden gem with roots that run…read moredeep-- owned and operated by the brother of New Orleans legend Kermit Ruffins. It's got an edgy vibe, solid food and drinks, and customers who know how to party. I stopped by for Sunday brunch and it was a full-on Baton Rouge moment, there is an open dance floor, plenty of seating, and birthday celebrations that turned the place into a scene. The $30 cover gets you bottomless mimosas and all-you-can-eat. I'm pretty sure this place can be booked out for special events as well!

Things might have completely changed, so don't just rely on my opinion. The last two times I had gone there, however, the experience was mediocre at best. I found the food to be mostly items that could be quickly made, or at least should be able to have been quickly made, but took a lifetime before they were actually ready. I am talking about things like seafood covered nachos, and a baked potato stuffed with shrimp. They do serve daiquiris, which I did find interesting, and since I don't live far away, I did stop once and buy a couple for my wife and I to drink at home. Getting back to the restaurant, the times that I dined there, there were not many customers, although I think they may pick up business in the late evenings. I remember passing by at night, on a Friday or Saturday night, and noticing the parking lot was packed. Anyway, in my personal opinion, the food was mediocre, and the prices were fairly high. And of course, the service was very slow. The last few times that I have passed by the restaurant, however, it must have been closed, as there were absolutely no cars parked in front, and the lights appeared to be off. That would have been around typical dinner time, so it should have been busy. Also, I have not heard of any other local resident mentioning the restaurant in many months. You might want to call and make sure it is open before you go.

The informed me that there would be a wait but they had catfish available. We decided to wait and I was not disappointed. First of all they gave very generous portions when it came catfish ballet. This is not a cornmeal coating but a batter. At first I was surprised that I wasn't able to get any tartar sauce with my meal. However once I taste the fish I could see why it wasn't necessary. The fish was nicey flaky but the outside was crispy and not overly salted. This is some of the best tasting catfish I've had in a while. I am definitely going to come back to try the other items on the menu. I will note this is a food truck but they are here regularly. Don't let it descriptive because he is high quality and could put most restaurants to shame.

The stuffing was rich and flavorful, complementing the salmon beautifully without overpowering it. The entire meal felt like a true taste of Baton Rouge cuisine--bold, comforting, and made with care. The service was welcoming & matched the quality of the food. Highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Southern flavor done right.

They have all the fixings for a boil from the corn down to the sausage. The service is great the people who serve you the fish always give you what you ask for. Now the ambiance is to be desired. It's on the Infamous Plank Road. So shop with caution on that street. They always have a sheriff or two on the property to help keep down problems but still be cautious. I will continue to shop for my fresh fish and shellfish from this local home town staple.

Tony's does not disappoint. They have a variety of frozen items as well as a full steam table, steamed /boiled seafood and fresh fish. We went in hungry and left out with 3 bags of stuff. We got hot plates of fish, shrimp, smothered steak, jambalaya and boudin. They should really make a sign that explains the ordering process at the steam table. So many items to choose from and you can't be sure what's an entree versus a side. Options are plentiful and everything was good. I was disappointed that they sold the potatoes corn and turkey necks along with the boiled crawfish and shrimp but no sausage nor boiled eggs. We also left with a package of the best pralines I have had ever! The stuffed pork chops and stuffed whole chicken was a hit at our Memorial Day bbq.
