Nuckleheadz Bar & Grill - Amazing cheese curds

Apparently I didn't leave a review for Nuckleheadz after the one other time I had dinner there, so…read moreI had to leave one this time. I called in an order to go for a four piece cod dinner with seasoned waffle fries and cheese curds as an appetizer. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve crappy cornmeal breaded cheese curds that don't get crunchy and retain too much grease, the cheese curds at Nuckleheadz are true breaded cheese curds that get perfectly crunchy. I wish every every restaurant would serve the right kind like Nuckleheadz does, but I guess that's one of the things that makes Nuckleheadz special. Speaking of special, I LOVE it when the breading on fish has herbs and/or spices mixed in. It just gives the fish a little something extra. The herbs that Nuckleheadz puts in the batter they use on their cod (maybe their other fish too, I'm not sure) are phenomenal. I'm not usually big on cod, but I'm big on their cod because of it. Seasoned waffle fries are the king of all fries so that was a no-brainer. The weekly specials they post on social media often intrigue me and the hangover hash appetizer sounds fantastic (tater tots covered with bacon, nacho cheese, shredded cheese, and fried eggs), so I look forward to ordering that the next time I dine-in on a day that isn't Friday and I can't wait to get the fish fry again on a Friday with the best cheese curds around.

The Mineshaft - This is the "hearty" portion of corned beef. It's thinner than the bread.

Tyler's service was fast accurate and very professional. I had the ribs and my partner had the chicken tenders. Just as I tell people by word of mouth, "If you wand really good ribs that come off the bone nicely, you just have to try the ribs here at the Mineshaft." Once again, as always, an extremely satisfying visit to the Mineshaft. A fantastic place to eat. Incessant Research (Investigative Research & Journalism. Not for hire.)

I got the Ruben, which the menu describes as a hearty portion of corned beef. You'll see in the picture there were 3 thin slices of lunch meat type corned beef. Husband got the patty melt. He thought it was OK, not great but not terrible. I thought it tasted like propane. It had a distinct gas taste to it. We had the "nachos supreme " as an appetizer.... my fault I should have read beyond the title. One assumed that supreme meant Toppings. Nope. Ground beef, liquid cheese, on chips, with jalapeños. That's their version of supreme. Bland, after a couple turned gross and colgulated. First time here since moving back to the area a year ago.... go somewhere else. Uncle Larry's is a MUCH better alternative.

Their BOGO entrees made this so affordable almost everyone went home with leftovers so portion sizes are great. I highly recommend the Fox's Feast appetizer for a group. Have come here occasionally over the last 40 years. As a matter of fact, it was one of the first…read morerestaurants I took my wife to when we started dating. It's an iconic spot that still seems to have a strong following of loyal customers. We came with another couple who also have a long history of dining here. Food: It is most definitely a traditional supper club, but without the relish tray. The menu has a large selection of seafood, steaks, salads, and a few other assorted entrées. We settled on a rib steak for me and the scallops and pasta for her. Before the entrées, we each had a side salad, which came with a couple of nice-sized loaves of warm bread. A delicious start to the meal. The entrées arrived without much delay. The rib steak was cooked to my liking, medium rare, and had nice flavor. It was a little tough, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't mind a bit of chew. My wife would not have enjoyed it. Her scallops and pasta were good; however, there was the occasional bit of sand grit. Both meals had good flavor and portions large enough to require to-go containers. Service: We had terrific service the entire evening. I would say that Lisa was the most kind and helpful server I've had here. She made sure we were well cared for, kept our drinks refreshed, and checked that everything was to our liking. Thanks, Lisa. Atmosphere: To me, it doesn't seem like much has changed over the last 40 years. The place has received a lot of TLC. It has a genuine warmth to it. The rooms, and there are many, have character and classic charm. I'm not a big fan of the "buy one, get one" pricing. I understand that restaurants have to charge enough to make money, no issue there. For me, simply stating the price for each meal would be my preference. It's still a wonderful, iconic restaurant that we love to return to.
