Service department (claimed to) have performed an unasked-for "multi-point inspection" while my Ridgeline was in for a battery replacement, and, I was informed, my rear brakes and rotors were in dire need of immediate replacement at a cost of $778.31. Instead of authorizing that repair I returned to Kittery AutoWorks, the shop that had performed exactly that service 6,000 miles ago (for $200 less) and asked them to inspect the brake system to see whether there was some mechanical flaw that could cause the pads to wear out so quickly. The result? As I suspected, pads and rotors are in perfect condition, "barely worn, nothing needs work". This makes the second, and final bad experience with this dealer's service department, and I will certainly never go there again for either service, nor for the purchase of a new car: if incompetents and crooks are tolerated in the mechanics' bays and behind the service desk, there are likely similar types to be found on the showroom floor. read more

First of all, I would probably go 4.5 stars. A 5-star rating means perfection with zero issues. The process was very quick with a 28 turnaround from vehicle arrival to departure. Wow! The home runs.... 1. No pressure sales! Andrew Bailey, my sales consultant, was professional, courteous, and friendly! I had already expressed interest in a specific car through Car Gurus. My information was in their system. The car was in transit from Colorado. It was a lease return. 2. Take my time solo test drives. 3. Miracle workers in the cleaning department. (see the before and after photos) 4. Giving me a ride to the dealership for delivery. 5. Fair market pricing. What could have been better...... 1. Oil life was not reset. I just did it myself today. 2. It is a Certified Pre-owned Honda. Please give me a CPO package to take home and show me what was inspected and the results. Please provide a detailed list of all the maintenance performed for my records. I called once I was home and have asked for a maintenance document to be e-mailed. 3. I was told that the CPO warranty for non-powertrain items is 1 year. The QR code given to me sends me to the October 2024 CPO booklet which states that my warranty is for two years or up to 100K miles. Dover Honda could easily have gotten a five-star review on my recent car purchase, but they blew it before they were done by making me sit for three hours. My car shopping started with an Internet search. Dover Honda had several cars that met my requirements, so I called them to ask if my top choice was still available. They told me it was, so I set out to go there (about 40 miles from home). I'd gone less than a mile when I got another call telling me the car had been sold. Points to them for getting back to me before I'd made the trip. I asked about my second choice, and they said it was still available, so I went there anyway. My conversation with the salesman was good, no high pressure. He got the car out for a test drive. I quickly realized it wasn't for me and said so without driving it anywhere. Fine. We went back to see if anything else that I'd like was available. They had another car that was nearly a twin of the one I'd originally wanted, except for color. The test drive convinced me it was a good choice. The amount I was offered for my trade-in was disappointing, but the car was rather battered with little dents and scratches, so I took it. Everything was great up to that point, and all that was left was to formalize the financing ... and then I had to wait. And wait and wait. At one point the salesman told me it might be an hour, so I went out to lunch (in my old car). But it took THREE hours of waiting. The finance person was apologetic. Other people had appointments and so had priority over me, even though the store was nearly empty. But I'd mentioned to the salesman that I hadn't brought the title to my old car with me and could go home and get it, instead of having to make a deposit to guarantee the trade-in and then mail the title. That would have worked better for everyone. I could even have made an appointment for the next day and claimed the car then. As it was, another ten minutes and I would have walked out on the whole deal. It all turned out well in the end, and I like the car, but making people wait for hours is no way to run a business. read more

I got there at 8 AM and couldn't stand waiting until 2:30 PM because the advertised car was a mess so I took a look at a second car... The Salesman acted like I was wasting his time. My inspection and oil change was at 10. I sat in the waiting area inhaling gas fumes for two hours wondering what was taking so long. When I go up to ask, they tell me that my car had failed as the sticker numbers and my registration weren't the same. I waited two hours to find this out. So they tell me to get the numbers fixed and bring it back. Ten minutes max to slap a sticker on and be done since everything else was taken care of. That's what they said. Not busy today at Dover Honda. Three intake representatives, one car in the bay. I spoke with Alicia telling her I had a blown fuse in the power supply. How much would it cost me to get the fuse changed out? I had the owners manual opened up to the correct page. First, Alecia questioned me how I knew a fuse was blown. (Pretty simple, I know the car, I know about fuses, but I was not nimble enough to get up under the dashboard) I told Alicia I had plugged a socket into the power supply of the console and now it wasn't working. She said we don't have an appointment until Monday. My thought was... Do I need an appointment to have a fuse changed out??? No thank you and I left. I think Alecia didn't believe I knew what I was talking about. After talking to another friend, Garrison City Automotive was recommended to me, just down the street. The mechanic stopped what he was doing and replaced the fuse. I gave him a good tip for 5 minutes of his appreciated work. read more

Honda's sell themselves so there's no need for high pressure sales. Unfortunately, I've had only bad experiences with the 2 Maine Honda dealerships in Portland and Saco. We've also serviced our vehicles at Dover Honda. Even though they're a dealership, they are competent and competitive in pricing. We purchased replacement tires on a vehicle, and they met the price from a discount tire dealer. We find the dealership to be honest and no pressure. It's a relaxed buying atmosphere not found in other dealerships. My salesman was Al Lepler. He is knowledgeable and laid back. He answers all you questions and does not pressure you into buying. You come to a dealership to first look around, maybe take a test drive and finally buy. If you are up front with Al, he is upfront with you. Recommend Dover Honda. read more

I went for the inspection for my 2018 honda CRV and mechanics asked for milage in the vehicle. I said 14500 and he told me you are close to 15k miles so you are required to do the major recommend service. Service fee was $359 and $46.00 for inspection. His estimate was about $420 but after service i was billed $466.00 What if I didn't have extra $46 in my account. He said you have a brand new car so there was not a single issue in your car. Why I am being charged if there was no issue. I don't understand what they do during the service and charges outrageous fees. I could have done same service outside in half price. I used to drive nissan before and i have always received some kind of discount during the service. I haven't received a single penny discount from dover honda yet. I will try to avoid dover honda for service in future. read more

Bought a 'certified pre owned' 2016 civic in sept 2016, only 700 miles on it. Clean Car Fax report, 'was only used by employees and as a loaner'. 1 month later, I bring it in to my mechanic for routine maintenance and he notices masking tape along the bottom and mismatched/ poor quality paint job. Dealer tells me 'oh yeah, we touch it up before selling it'. Turns out the car had been in an accident with substantial damage, with a claim paid out by an insurance company. Was also repaired in the dealership body shop! I was able to get a copy of the work order with all the repairs- bumper, door, quarter panel, paint... ALL NOT DISCLOSED AT ALL DURING THE SALE. Dealership denies 'knowing about it' and says 'not all accidents get reported to car fax. ' No recourse, no options for me! Lame- zero stars!! read more

After a lengthy search for a used car, we ended up at Dover Honda in NH. Browsing the online inventory, I saw a car that raised my interest and I used the online form to ask if it's still available. To my surprise, on a Friday night, I got a reply from Paula Redden. We were able to schedule a visit a couple of days later to see and test drive the car. Paula is not your stereotypical car sales person: she was very welcoming, no pressure, didn't ask us any inappropriate questions like other sales people from other dealers did, and completely understood our needs. We decided to buy the car after we drove it and thoroughly looked at it: Paula gave us all the time we needed to inspect the car ourselves to make sure it's exactly what we want and need. Nice guy, took him a bit to listen to what I wanted and for him to stop giving me the "elevator pitch" but instead give me the pitch that matched my interests. Although I walked away with out buying a car, he didn't make me feel like it was a waste of his time. He invited me to come back rather than pressuring me to buy now or any other uncomfortable scenario. Do not purchase a vehicle from them. I purchased a 2017 Jeep Cherokee from them. Within two hours after driving it off the lot the car immediately started having problems. It was doing a jerking motion while driving an indication somethings wrong with the transmission. I immediately called to which they said they would not be able to do anything until Monday. Monday comes all I hear is I'm talking to my manager about it. Today I got a call stating For me to bring an hour and a half back to them for their mechanic to take a look. If you look at past reviews you will see that I wrote them a glowing review several years ago when I purchased my new car. Unfortunately, that all changed when my son bought a used car from them. Neither myself nor any of my family will ever buy a car from them again. My son had gotten into a car accident and needed a new car. After the wonderful service I received from them with my 2 prior new car purchases, I went to them first. I went with my son and explained I was a repeat customer and that my son needed a car and what the insurance check amount would be. We explained that my son could only afford a payment of less than $100 a month and wanted a loan no longer then 4 years. (so they couldn't draw out the loan to make a lower payment) The salesperson showed us the cars and my son test drove a used Honda he really liked that was only a few years old and still had some of the Mfg warranty left on it. I explained that I wanted to put money down on the car to hold it, because I was going away overseas for a month and wanted the car situation settled before I went. Honda applied for financing for him and he was approved for the car and a low payment due to his pristine credit. They understood he was waiting for the insurance check and would get the car when he received it. I gave them cash to hold the car and thought everything was all set. 2 weeks later I get a call from my son in a panic. He had received his insurance check a week before, but because it was a non bank check, his bank had to hold it for a week to clear. He called Honda and told them the situation and they said to let them know when it cleared. Once it cleared he called and let them know and said he was on his way to get the car. When he got there he was told that they had sold it (without telling him) . They then convinced him to purchase an older car, with more miles. His loan ended up being higher due to the advance age of the car (higher interest rate) . He agreed to the purchase because he didn't have a car because the rental had ended and he needed to get to work etc, because I wasn't home to help transport him. Not only that they tried to convince him to purchase an extended warranty that wouldn't have even covered the car due to the age. I called Honda pretty upset. The salesperson told me they sold the car because my son had called the week before to say he got the insurance check, so they got the car ready with temp plates (which cost them money) when he called them back up to explain how it was going to take a week to clear, another customer came in so they sold it. I told the salesperson that that didn't make any sense since 1. He had the loan approved , so obviously they were going to get the sale from him. 2. I had put money on it to hold it, which by NH law I wasn't entitled to get back if we decided against purchasing it. 3. we had a valid contract which could not be broken. I was pretty angry, I asked why they never informed my son that they had sold it, when they did or when he called that day to say he was on his way down. Why did they wait until he showed up, if it wasn't to purposefully screw him? Since they knew I was out of the country I feel they purposefully set out to do a bait and switch because he was a young kid. Also, The salesperson was extremely condescending explaining the finance piece to me, treating me as though I was an idiot. I explained to him that I had an MBA and was well aware of financial issues and knew of the payment trick he was trying to pull on us, where they draw out your payments to get a lower payment, while in reality you pay more over the course of the loan. I also told him that he screwed my kid because of the age of the car because now his interest rate would be higher. He made several other condescending comments to me in regards to the car. Like I told the salesperson..the first rule they teach you in business school is that every customer knows a 100 people. If you treat one customer bad they can in essence close your business through word of mouth. Especially with a small business that depends on a community. I also explained to him that short term he may have made an extra 1 or 2k selling my son the older car, but that's short term money. They have now lost more revenue through lost sales of myself and my family. When I purchase my next new car I will not go to them. In fact my daughter whom just purchased a new car, avoided them like the plague. We will be purchasing a car for my other daughter this year and will not go to Dover Honda. So long term they have just lost 2 recent sales and will lose all our business over the next 20+ years, not a smart business decision. Long term he could have made much more by being honest. legally I think I could have filed a complaint with the attorney general and gotten the car for free. Since he had the loan and we had cash down to hold it with no term limit. But at the time I was overseas and didn't have the ability to do so. read more

While the sales folks at this dealership are like-able enough, I cannot say the same about our experiences dealing with the service team. I was there today to wait for a simple oil change and for them to check the tire pressure. The oil was changed, and the form indicated that the tires were "...filled to 35 psi". After the service I thought that they might leave our vehicle parked in the drive through, since it was a slow day for the service department and it was absolutely pouring outside, however they parked the car outside. While driving away, the tire indicators hadn't changed (still at 32 psi) from when we brought it in, so back we went to have air added to the tires.... Unfortunately return visits seem to be the norm at this dealership. Our brand new car was delivered to us with part of the grill (a chrome trim piece) completely unattached. This was not noticed at the pre-delivery inspection? After the second trip back they finally figured out what had to be ordered. When the service date came around, I killed five hours (no rental offered) waiting for it to be fixed. Their excuse was that this was a new model and they didn't realize how involved the repair would be. They couldn't have determined this half-way in? At one oil change, I was encouraged to have the rear differential fluid changed ($110 service). Interested in keeping up with all the service requirements, I complied. Two days later I got an e-mail with a subject line "refusal of service". Apparently I had "refused" service on a front-end alignment at my last service - even though it was never offered or suggested! The Service Manager also had the gall to mention that the differential service at 22,500 miles was more prevalent on the older models and that the front end alignment would have been more appropriate at the service interval for my model year! Having worked as both a Service Manager and a Technician at a franchise dealer in a previous life, I thought that they were not deserving of servicing my car at the major (30K) service. So, I actually brought the vehicle to a more metro dealer in the state and ended up saving about $150. Usually the dealers in the larger towns/cities charge more, but not in this case. All I can say is that if anybody's experience is like mine, Dover Honda offers a compelling reason to switch to Toyota. Ive been through hell trying to get my liftgate repaired. First - Ive never received a callback after having 4 phone calls with all different people. I paid $300 for the part months ago. Ive been told its on backorder but have been promised dates from a week to month lead time. Cant use my hatch. Isn't that a key part of buying an SUV? Terrible terrible service. Came in with a Bank of America pre-approved loan to purchase a CPO Honda Civic Sport Touring a few months ago. The finance lady promised me that financing through her office for another Bank of America loan is much easier, and that I can call the bank to change the higher interest rate to the lower one on my pre-approved. Wrong! I had to physically visit a Bank of America branch to refinance and the bank teller told me to report Dover Honda. In addition, it took them 10+ days to get the car registered. Despite multiple calls to the dealership, the salesman and the managers never returned my call. I had to speak with the General Manager for the issue to be resolved. Eventually, Morgan came over, she was very helpful. The rest of the staff left something to be desired, including the manager. I made a service appointment at Dover Honda for 3 pm to have a "check emissions system" alert diagnosed. When I arrived I was told that my appointment was to drop the car off and they wouldn't be working on the car until closer to 5pm. The service department "worked" on my car for roughly 2 hours, after which I was told that they couldn't find the problem and they would need to work 3 to 5 hours more on the car to diagnose what the issue was. After I declined their offer to have me leave my car over night for them to work on it in the morning, I was charged 230$ for a failed diagnostic. As a consequence of their failure to work on my car at the agreed upon time I missed work and was forced to shift and cancel most of my evening schedule. The service department was entirely unapologetic about the situation. I cannot see any reason why I would ever return for any reason to this establishment. read more
