Me and my brother walked in at around 5:30 after work and since it was a nice day we decided to sit outside. It wasn't too busy. Once seated we took 10 minutes to look over the menu and decided what we were going to order. We ordered 2 half half pizzas, one to take home and one to eat there. We got our food in 10-15 minutes of ordering. Ordered the Half Pepperoni Classico Pizza and Half Roasted Olive Pizza to eat there, both options were delicious. Their pizza crust is made of cornmeal, which I expect it to be drying when eating but it wasn't. The roasted tomatoes on both sides were juicy and well seasoned. The box of pizza that we took home was a hit in with the family as well. Especially with my father who is picky. He had both Sausage and Mustard Greens Pizza (daily special) and Corn Pizza. He personally came to tell us that it was good and how filling it is after two pieces. The ambiance and service were a 10/10, loved the servers there. They were welcoming, nice and easy to talk to. I can see the appeal of the cornbread crust but it was not my favorite. I was excited about the variety of pizza toppings and after trying five different pizzas I was underwhelmed- there was no seasoning or flavor. Staff were excellent, cute spot, but wasn't for me. Can't win them all. read more

I tried Dove Vivi pizza today. Their crust is amazing. The pizza was delicious. I ordered the Roasted Vegetable Vegan pizza with extra mushrooms. Tried the Mixed Green salad. Loved both items. Definitely a good place to come and enjoy a vegan pizza. Pretty much there is no parking spaces. Street parking but very minimal. I still recommend this place. The customer service was great. The staff were lovely. The pizza was not. We had high hopes based on all the photos and reviews and the smells coming from the tables around us. We ordered the special combo of the night (coppa, olives and fresh tomatoes) and it was so salty I couldn't eat more than one bite. I tried, I really did. I removed the toppings and it still was overwhelmingly salty. Maybe there was an issue with the cheese? I don't know what was wrong. I'm a seasoned home chef and come from a family of trained chefs and I can't figure out what that combo was other than a pure mistake. The sausage and pepper slice wasn't much better since it was just an entire green bell pepper cooked to oblivion/mush coated in an overwhelming amount of oregano. Such a long wait. Even thought we arrived at opening we waited at least 45 min for a pizza. While folks came and went picking up their to go orders. With our young family that was way too long. Good pizza, nice people but being the first one there at opening and having to wait that long for food to arrive made it a hardship. I recommend take out in the future then you don't have to wait for table service! read more

Had the benefit of sitting outside on a beautiful summer evening, but nothing can deny the delicious pizza served at Dove Vivi. The crust perfectly accentuates the fresh toppings. I really enjoyed the more traditional soppresata & peppers/onions but the corn (with lime juice) topping was my fav. I grew up in and around NYC and appreciate all kinds of great pizza. You want to have the leftovers of this goodness and can do a half n half. The cornmeal crust is thick, flavor and yet buttery. The corn and sausage pizza is an unexpected standout. The sweetness of the onions with all the toppings really elevates everything. The pesto was the perfect accompaniment--the creamy ricotta with the basil is amazing. Service was so kind and attentive. Simple n yum this one. While other specials are more involved. For a pizza spot, you can tell how much thought and care goes into each ingredient. This place is great! The pizza is made with a cornmeal crust and a bit thicker, more filling pizza. I love the variety of toppings they use. The pizza is heavy and I usually only eat two slices. Due to the style of pizza, it can be a little dry as a bite depending on your toppings. I like to have some salad to balance it out. A little wine doesn't hurt either. The staff is friendly and helpful. Their sign up high is just a heart, love it - but it's easy to miss. It's between the food mart and the dry cleaners. It has a nice patio out front. I wanted to love this way more than I did. My friend and I went here to use a coupon I had and we far from hated it. We were super excited to see this stack of delicious looking pizza shells which almost looked like some crazy yum flakey high pie crust or something. I got pepperoni with their sautéed mushrooms and my friend got a sausage and veggie. The toppings were great but the crust was just ...meh...I could not believe how unimpressive it was. It also really took a long time to get our food. We were trying to get in and out fairly quickly to run across the street for another errand. They said 15 minutes but when we go back 20 minutes later it was another 15 minutes and they did not seem all that busy. Sooooo Good!!! Interesting backstory: my husband and I had our second date ever here. At the time, I wasn't crazy about the pizza. But I think I was distracted by a newfound love interest and being nervous. So for years, even though it's one block from our home, we didn't go eat here. But I keep passing by this place, noticing how cute it is, noticing how popular it is. I finally decided we needed to eat here again. Man, have I missed out! I would put this in my top three pizza places to go eat at in Portland. Apizza Schools is the best pizza I've ever eaten, but I don't often feel like driving up to Hawthorne to wait in line for over an hour. I'm all for a good delivery pizza sometimes but you know they are using cheap processed cheese and cheap toppings. Dove Vivi is a few steps above this. First off, they do a cornmeal crust, it's crispy and delicious. They talk on their site about how they use a lot of local/regional ingredients and cure a lot of their own meats. It definitely shows. We ordered a half pepperoni/half pesto pizza. It was amazing, super flavorful, rich and satisfying! You can just taste that they use real, authentic ingredients. The cheese was incredible and tasted much better than what's on most pizzas. The interesting thing is that I'm a pretty hearty eater and with most pizza, I just want more, more, more. But at Dove Vivi, the two slices I had were so tasty and satisfying, that I was full and didn't need more. Their pizzas are 12 inches, six slices, and in my opinion, would work for three people. The ambiance is super cozy, attractive and inviting. The menu is simple, but sometimes that's the best. The only thing besides pizzas is a few salads, wine and beer. Hubby had red wine, which he said was good, I had white wine that was very crisp and refreshing. They do offer cookies and Missionary truffles for dessert. I've had Missionary truffles before and they are excellent, one would be a perfect ending here, but we had something waiting for us at home. Our server was hilarious, relaxed and great. I haven't been here in several years and I made a carry out order today and OMG this place somehow remains so FABULOUS and CONSISTENT!!!! I got half of the corn pizza and a half of the squash special. The corn has always been a favorite next to the pesto but the SQUASH IS DELICIOUS Huge chunks of roasted squash with fluffy cheese onions rosemary and covered in fresh arugula. While the cornbread crust are the show stealers here--and it is unique and delicious--the salads are the standouts in my mind. Fresh and plentiful, the salad bowls are perfect for sharing and could easily be the main meal. I appreciate the dressings that enhance the greens and how DV demonstrates that less is tastier than drowned and soggy. Sit outside, if it's that kind of day, weather-wise. Three cheers for the clever fold up tables on the covered porch / sidewalk area. The wait staff is friendly, efficient and caring. I first discovered Dove Vivi two years ago walking by the popular area in NE district. Loving vegan food but not being a vegan myself, I was immediately tempted to try this place out that had options for everyone, and was unique in regards to their cornmeal crust. I can not detail enough how marvelous and delicious this pizza is. Having craved it for two years, I had the opportunity recently upon my return to PDX to indulge not once, but twice, and perhaps a third time soon in this heavenly delight. I always get the half Regular corn, half vegan corn cashew- super creative ! So why after writing what just seemed like a love letter did I give this place four stars? Mostly because I believe the 5 should be earned for an all around experience. The pizza is about $28 for a whole- and it is definitely small. Sure it's filling because of the crust, but by no means does it justify the price of two or three meals anywhere else. Secondly, they don't do subs. It was rather confusing because when I asked to replace an ingredient for another (a simple one too) I was Told "they don't do that on half and half pizzas because it's already pre-made". Perhaps I heard incorrectly- but that made it sound like their items aren't as fresh as I once imagined....Third , the service is pretty subpar. I was rather bombarded several times for a tip and the person handing my pizza threw the park and red pepper at me when I completely forgot to tip in cash. Look- I'm all for Tipping, but after an expensive take-out meal, excuse me if I may have forgotten I still owe more ...and then was treated horribly after a mistake. And lastly, I get that COVID has made this and many other great restaurants take-out only.
