I was really excited to try this place and just left empty handed. I waited in line for 15 minutes with people in front of me waiting without being acknowledged once. I looked and there were 3 tables sitting without food just water looking very disappointed. Lately the last three times I have visited they were closed. Ever since Matt and Moes took over open times have been really hit and miss.

My husband and I have been going to Doug's since we moved last year. It's one of our favorite spots to go for ice cream and sometimes a bite, too. My husband is the one who likes to food more than I do, but I'm a sucker for their soft serve. He has pretty much been eating his way through the menu and there aren't many things he hasn't liked. Wait times are usually not long, but during covid that's obviously a little different depending on if it's a busy day/time. read more

So happy this place is reopened. So many happy childhood memories here! One glaring difference is menu selection. The old Doug's really had it all for choices and flavor combos. The new Doug's has a very limited menu. But what they do have is delicious. Once I got over not being able to order a strawberry vanilla soft serve twist, I settled for a hot fudge brownie with Carmel sauce. Bf had the Reese's Dougie. No complaints on taste! Doug's Delight is very curious. I've passed it several times and it seems plenty busy, so I finally decided to give it a try, seeing as how it's right down the street from me. It's basically an independently-owned version of your typical DQ. You've seen 'em. Every neighborhood has their little walk-up, soft serve place. This place is a little different from your typical place, and definitely putting it in competition with DQ, in that they have other offerings besides soft-serve and a few hand dipped options. There's a handful of salads, burgers, foot longs, and a slew of your typical fried stuffs. I didn't know where to start, and I didn't feel like the waxy chocolate dip that you usually find at these places, so I just went with a hot fudge sundae. The soft-serve was what I expected, creamy and alarmingly white. The hot fudge sauce was seriously goopy and WAY too sweet. I might stop here quickly if I'm jonesin' for a slushy or some onion rings and there's a chance I could die if I don't get them immediately, but I really don't think I'll be back. There's definitely a place for Doug's Delight here, and I love their history and what they bring to the community, and I think they offer a lot for a walk-up, at reasonable prices, but it's just not for me. I'll just go the extra mile for the real stuff. read more

Best.... coney dog...... ever! Seriously, I order the footlong and never look back. I have been coming here since I was a kid. I love the food and the ice cream. Boston coolers FTW (Vernors mixed with soft serve ice cream for the uninitiated). If i'm in a mood for something more healthy the chicken salads are awesome. Whenever I am in Michigan in the warmer months I make sure I hit this place up. I think the same lady (who is there all the time) has owned it for like 20 years. A Hazel Park institution. I drive an ice cream truck and I even stop by here daily and get a milkshake. Only bad thing i can say is they need to be open all year. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would stand inline during a snow storm for a milkshake. They are just that damn good. read more

Growing up in HP I was spoiled by the best ice cream place around---The Dairy Park. Doug's was always the place you went if the Dairy Park was too crowded. I've been twice to this new Doug's incarnation and this review is based solely on the ice cream and service. Will come back to try the food very soon. As for the ice cream...the soft serve is what it is. Pretty much a powder or liquid that is stirred and poured into a machine. Some places might be a bit creamier or grittier (clean your machine well!) but Doug's is fine as well as the cones themselves. Both times our order has been wrong. One of us ordered Guernsey scoops both times and received soft served. I was very disappointed to see that when the server handed the (incorrect) cone out the window and retrieved it when he was told it was wrong THREW IT IN THE TRASH. A whole large chocolate ice cream cone! Do they do that with every mistake? Throw away perfectly good food? The very least he could do is say "sorry about the mistake, would you like to keep this one while I correct your order?" I'm not about free stuff but I HATE to see waste like that. And our order wasn't the only incorrect one with the groups of people out the window. Cherries falling off sundae's, melted product, my malt had huge lumps of powdered malt (mix that thing up!). Disappointed. I will say that the guy taking our order was extremely friendly and funny...he was great but the other workers looked a bit unhappy and couldn't wait to slam that window shut after handing out the orders. I will come back to try the food but I'll skip the ice cream and head to The Split on 9 mile. read more

Grew up in Hazel Park so I'm no stranger to Doug's. Used to go there quite often while in High School (c. 1978). It's been 30 years since I was there, but I was close to HP last weekend so I decided to drive through the old neighborhood. Much has changed in HP over the years, but one thing is still the same... Doug's. Had a foot long Coney dog, fries and a vanilla soft serve. Still the best! Looks like I will be driving down from Armada a little more often. Definitely worth the ride! read more

this place is really cool , good service good treats . my only complaint i had as a slushy fan was the flavors were a little dull/bland/watered down . so if your fan of like ... sonic slushes or want something flavorful don't order the slush . doug if your reading this , please experiment with some new slush syrups . i am a huge fan of the classic lime slushes that are almost sour . cool place though ! read more

Doug's is the best, classic dairy bar I've ever been to. I am obsessed with all things dairy, especially the summertime delights of flurries, coolers, malts, shakes and sundaes. I have travelled across the whole USA, always seeking out the local sweet-treat dairy establishments. Doug's is the boss of them all for that classic, all-American goodness. To boot, their fryer is silly-good, cranking out some of the best fries around. Always great service, too. HIGHLY recommended: Boston coolers and Hot Fudge Malts. This place was SO hyped up by Detroit food fans; I was so excited to visit. Drove out there after swimming, wanting a nice ice cream treat. The only other people there were a couple with single scoops of Guernsey on cake cones. It took at least 5 minutes for them to get their order, despite their being at least two people there. Seriously, it's an ice cream place, you should be able to scoop ice cream very quickly. Then my mom and I placed our order; chocolate malt, a cookie sundae, and curly fries. My mom's malt took 7 minutes, mine took 3 more, and then I had to remind them of the curly fries, which took 2 more minutes. Let me remind you that this is a VERY SLOW WEEKDAY with MULTIPLE people staffed. The cookie sundae wasn't even worth the $5 as the cookie was solid (stale) and the ice cream was something you could get from Meijers. I can't imagine going here during a rush, you'd have to wait over an hour! I'm normally very lenient about waiting, but there was absolutely no excuse for the horrible service here. This place has been open for 3+ months, it was not opening week! read more

This is just a local ice cream place you look forward to opening in the summer months; nevertheless, they actually do have salad, hot dogs, chicken and sloppy joes. I have tried them and for that late night & it is up the street, kinda tasty. The prices are fair and they have always been so friendly!!! I agree with most of the reviews. I was very excited to finally try Dougs and was very underwhelmed! I expected a better menu and the food was just ok and a little overpriced. I know it's not McDonalds but expect to wait, even if it's not busy. I also found it disturbing that every thing that comes out of the kitchen comes in Styrofoam! It's scary to think how much they go through! I probably won't be back. Also, bring your own cup if you want ice water or they charge you for it. read more

This is not the same Doug's Delight as the previous owner (Vicki). I was very disappointed going there today. They had no French fries, served tater tots, no hamburgers, so instead ordered a nasty Frito-Lay chili slop. Going there today was disappointing and won't be going back again! read more
