Probably the best course in the area, very short course with a lot of Par 3s. Fairways and greens mostly exceeds the average standard. No driving greens. Pacing of play can be questionable at times but that most munis in the city. Staff if very nice and welcoming. read more

First of all why am I paying $2.75 for parking when I am already paying $55 to play here. Second there are no water coolers during the front 9. Only at the mid section of 9, 10 and by 13. What about the front 9?? I was dying of thirst! There's a gate that blocks off the golf carts from entering the parking lot. So we had to carry our bags to the car then drive the cart back to the clubhouse then walk back to the car....wtf if I knew I would have just parked down the street and walked past the parking lot fee. The course is very hilly with tons of blind greens. Course is decently maintained, except for garbage flying around the course. Nice local course ; if you want to play a in a non crowded undisrupted Quick game . Reservations are super simple through the "golf now app". The course isn't the best maintained and the guys in pro shop are arrogant and not always the most pleasant to deal with. The reason aside from my high rating is the insight cafe "the 19th hole" is a local staple , the woman who works behind the counter is lovely and always super nice and she is in my opinion the best person who works at this gold course. Public golf course's are in general difficult to review, as it is easy to say too little about the 18 hole, 5 mile and hopefully 4 hour experience. On the flip side, a porper review would t take some considerable time to describe the course adequately enough for a real feel for the course. Douglaston Golf Course has a Nassau County layout and shot making approach to into the greens on many of the holes on the course. By first glance of the score card, you see the course it is not very long, 5,585 yards of golf from the back tees for a par of 67. The course rating is 65.2 and it has a slope rating of 104 Dramatic slope variances and elevation change during your round of golf, most fairway lie's play flat though. Most all of Douglaston's green's are fairly well protected by some deep rough and some flat bunkering. Not to take away from the non-blind shot tricky par fours, holes--number one (par 4), two (par 3) and number 3 (par 4) do set the tone for much of the course. holes are not easy to par even for a 10-Hcp player and for such player to walk out +2 is more likely. I have always felt you see more of the ball on its terrain than any other city course, quality cutting machines are the reason. This makes cold weather golf very unpleasant at Douglaston Golf Course. Nice areas to Putt before you tee off, no driving range unfortunately (welcome to Queens). read more

I used to play this course years ago, back when the city operated it. I used to bring a small hammer with me in order to get a tee into the ground. Thank goodness those days are over. Played a round here about a month ago. In my opinion the course is in great shape (comparing it to the course I remember playing on in the 90's) My only complaint is the day we I played it took close to 6 hours (middle of the week) to finish 18 holes. As mentioned in another review, there a lot of parallel holes, so stay alert. I will be heading out to Douglaston this Wed. If it takes another 6 hours I will have to start looking elsewhere for a round of golf. read more

I played this course at the end of July with my two friends so things could have changed when I was there for a New York City course I was actually really impressed everything was pretty well-maintained The fairways were great the rough was good the greens were in good condition there were some pretty high elevated holes which is good for a good long drive so maybe you can add an extra 10 yards LOL we played at 4 PM for 28 bucks and it was a steal 18th hole at sunset is gorgeous with the beautiful 500 yard par five I plan on playing here in a few more weeks to see if the course is still in good condition read more

Their golf balls go through residential windows nearby. It is wonderful to wake up to a ball crashing into your bedroom around the morning hours when people are still sleeping and others are just trying to get up to eat breakfast. Kids are still sleeping because it is their summer vacation during a COVID pandemic. Good place for someone who is learning to play golf. Although a short course, there are some moderately tough holes. The grass is kept in a surprisingly good condition for being a public course, but the greens are usually pretty slow. For a public course, however, Douglaston is pretty expensive and has ridiculous waiting times. A 6 hour round here is nothing out of the normal. If you want to have a quick round Douglaston is not the place to go - if you want a nice practice course Douglaston is good for you. read more

The best maintained golf course in Queens (which is like comparing a new Italian restaurant to Olive Garden). There is no driving range to warm up and the greens are slow. $2.75 for parking is a joke when you can park on the streets nearby for free. $44 dollars for a short city course is a crime when there are so many nice courses in Nassau County that are in the same price range. The pace of play is slow. You will have to deal with all gamblers on the course that have to exchange money on every hole because they don't trust each other. Be prepared to watch them treat every putt like it's Sunday at the Masters while your blood boils waiting. On the positive side, it's not a boring course. There are plenty of blind shots and uneven lies to give you some sort of challenge. There are a few holes where water comes into play, but nothing to crazy. All in all, if you can't get on at Bethpage this is not the WORST alternative. I would rather play here than Clearview or Forest Park. I wouldn't touch those courses with a 10 foot pole. read more

Average course but more cons than pros... Here was my last outing: Pull up to the course and they want $2.75 to park... Are you kidding me? I've played golf at dozens of courses, many QUITE nicer than this one, and I've never in my life paid to PARK. STRIKE 1. I drove my car in by entering the Douglaston Manor driveway which led up to a loop. I was looking for a bag drop... Nope. No bag drop. After sneaking in from the loop I parked and looked for the pro shop. Nope. I was told the pro shop was all he way in the back and you had to not only walk but walk uphill with your bag and anything else you brought. We had coolers. Awesome, thanks a lot. Then at the pro shop I pay for my greens fees + cart fees. $53... And I'm already thinking to myself is better be good for $53 since it's already been so-so. I ask for a bag of balls to warm up. Nope. No driving range. Awesome. I go out to the putting green which has all of 5 holes and they won't even allow you to chip. So no chipping, no driving. Lovely. STRIKE 2 I get my cart and we're supposed to tee off at 12:03pm. The cart is gas powered and has no GPS. Where is this $53 going anyways?! Weather is poor but no rain so nobody is in front of us. I look at the score card and it's not even a par 72. So yay, it's a small course. We play the front 9 and it's far from impressive. The water is retention pond swamp water. Nothing aesthetically pleasing. No bathrooms anywhere on the course, only 1 or 2 water coolers. Meh. We get to the 9th after 2 hours (perfectly on pace) and the ranger has the balls to say to us, "can you pick up the pace, there's 3 empty holes ahead of you"? Um excuse me? We are perfectly on pace and those holes were empty because WE chose your course in bad weather when others didn't. We told him we're playing at pace and we paid $53, we're not changing anything. STRIKE 3 We finished our round at 4 hours and 15 minutes (10 mins at the turn). The cart can't go into the parking lot you PAID TO PARK IN. So yay you get to walk your bags to car and then drive the cart ALL THE WAY BACK to the pro shop only to walk back to your car. The excuse that this is a city course is a weak one. The land is there, the facilities are just lackluster and NOT worth $53, and oh yeah, that was the discounted rate. It's normally over $60. My first and last time I'll play Douglaston. read more

Nice public course! Probably the best I have been to (others are Van Cortlandt and Kissena) in NYC. Pretty short, so not extremely challenging for better golfers, but it is well maintained. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there are a few blind shots to the green, so that is a negative IMO. I went on a day when it was rainy, so crowds were not too bad, but I'm sure it gets way too packed on nice weekends. read more

One of the most disorganized rounds of golf ever. Took tee time at 12:15. Did not get off until 1 pm. Slow, slow pace of play. Not cheap $90 pp with cart. Balls flying everywhere. Someone swiped one of my club covers. Some one else took my Titleist golf ball and left me a beaten up ball. No practice range. Back tees are less than 6,000 yards. Not very helpful staff inside. Starter said, "you'll get out when I tell you." This is a case study in how not to run a municipal course. Overbook, underdeliver. Screw the people. I would have rather not played. Basically this is my home course. It's one of the better courses in Queens in my opinion. The grounds crew makes sure the greens and boxes are kept in shape. Only downfall to this course is that it doesn't offer much of a challenge. There are a lot of consecutive par 3's which can help your score (or hurt it- depending on the golfer lol). All NYC courses are in less than fair condition everywhere. However, the real problem with Douglaston is the customer service and out right RIP OFF. I walk in and there's no one at the clubhouse, and when someone did arrive he was rude and angry...it wasn't even 8am. Hate to see him after a day of "work." I asked him for the rate since we missed the early bird by 10 min. He rolls his eyes and points to some board and walks away. Real nice. I've been here 3 times and it's always the same. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. Kissena staff is much nicer. If I were management if get rid of everyone there and start over. read more

SLOW AS HELL!!! The course itself is halfway decent, but the pace of play is ridiculous. Sadly, it's the norm at this place. And it's shameful. Today was the day I finally made my decision to never play at Douglaston again. A 6 hour round of golf on a short course like Douglaston is unacceptable. Muni course or not, all courses have a responsibility to maintain pace of play. I can handle slow rounds, but 6 hours?!? No way. They just don't care at this course. From some tee boxes, we could look around to see gaps where slow groups were over 2 and a half holes behind the group in from of them. Look folks, everyone is out there to have a good time and enjoy being outdoors. But golf doesn't need to take all day. Waiting for 5-10 minutes over EVERY SINGLE TEE AND APPROACH SHOT is so frustrating. You can't play golf that way. It's about everyone's enjoyment...all it takes is 1 slow group of four players to ruin it for the dozens and dozens and dozens of people stuck behind them. Doesn't seem fair, does it? read more

Ranger is a rude classless guy...especially when you're paying so much to golf here and you gotta deal with a gasbag trailing you down the course. We waited on every hole. Although I had a terrible experience with an employee and left a one star review, when I notified upper management about what happened, I was informed that the employee would no longer be employed by them and I was compensated with a free round. Douglaston is an old friend, played the course dozens of times. The staff are friendly, the holes are short, but challenging, and force you to think and plan your approaches. No gimme pars. Greens and tee areas, like all city courses, are rough and overused, clubhouse food is crappy, and weekend golfers need to bring a LOT of patience, a round can last up to six hours. But a real round of golf, conveniently within NYC is hard to find. Well worth a try. read more

Love playing this golf course. Always crowded on the weekends, but its to be expected at a pubic course. Only two par 5's, but some challenging holes around the course. Beverage cart lady is very nice, good food selection at the halfway house as well. read more

I usually enjoying playing here because there arent any areas that gets backed up.. Nice little course in Queens. Prefer this course over Forest Park and Clearview for those in the borough. Course is well maintaned throughout the year including as it gets colder in Oct/Nov. The pace a play is not too bad. I've dealt with worse in other NYC courses. Given the lack of par 5s and more par 3s than normal, there are certain holes that can be backed up.. but after the 5th or 6th hole things do move better. Course has its challenges even though it plays to a Par 67/68. It is hilly and offers water hazards in a few of the early and lte holes. Staff is friendly and the snack bar is decent. read more

A nice course. The last two holes where you drive with the bridge in the distance are beautiful and very New York. But the waits are frustrating. People pile up on the par threes and it can get very annoying. However, there is a "free ball" contest on one of the holes and that's sort of fun. read more

This course is well kept, and a decent test for a par 67 course but excrutiatingly slow. Value: $44 + 18 for a cart. Not bad in NYC. Conditions: I thought the course was in really good shape for a busy municipal course. Consistent greens, nice tee boxes and decent sand. Course: I was disappointed that it was a par 67 and that they had 3 par 3's in a row, but the holes are good for what they are. This isn't an "executive" course with a bunch of 260 yd par fours, most of the holes are legit. Most of the par fours are 360-420, most of the par threes are challenging. However, if you're a low handicapper playing from the back tees this will still be an easy round - there's not a ton of danger either trees or water. Two or three of the holes are not so hot though but that's pretty standard for any course I play. Pace: 5.5 hours. Shockingly slow. I have to blame the marshals for either putting too many people on the course or letting people fall behind. No golf course is enjoyable for 5.5 hours especially when you only see the drink card once! Overall, 2.5-3 star course, average value, but the slow play dropped it down a star. read more

The course is very well laid out and the conditions are pretty good for a muni course in a city of this size. It's pretty short and very easy (that's a good thing for me but might be a bad thing for others).
