I had a birthday event at Douglaston Manor for my husband and worked with Jose. I found him to be helpful, accessible and professional until the day of the event where he told my guest who asked for a food wrapping to say "please". In a field where customer service is paramount, this response was inappropriate and belittling. It was a simple request; he should have been more courteous. Great budget for a semi-fancy dining experience for graduations, awards ceremonies, and maybe a wedding (no judgment), especially for Queens and Long Island residents. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the front desk team is not only welcoming but also happy to share the manor's rich history. I opted for the steak, which was delicious and perfectly portioned--small but satisfying. The ice cream was a delightful treat as well. At roughly $100 per person, the experience was well worth the price. The ambiance feels like stepping into a colonial backyard transformed into a charming golf course lobby. I am finally back to experience again the ambiance of this place. I still remember my great visits on this manor house including it's beautiful lawn. I wonder why I haven't reviewed this place. For tonight's event, we were on the main floor room. I was a little disappointed of the manor's Christmas decors in the lobby and the surrounded area. I don't see other on going parties aside from us. It used to be full of life and vibrancy. I wonder if they have already recovered from Covid effects. The staff is nice and friendly. There were great selection of appetizers being served to the guests. The buffet food doesn't seem the finest comparably to what I remembered. We got married at the Douglaston on 3/27/2022 and it was magical! It's such a beautiful venue and reasonably priced. Though our wedding was delayed a few times because of the pandemic, the Douglaston staff provided A+ support. From before we signed the contract to the day of our wedding, working with them was stress-free. They presented solutions for any concerns that may have come up throughout the wedding planning process, and they did everything they could to make our wedding day go smoothly and exactly how we wanted it. Carlos was our maitre-D and just so on it and had the best attitude. Lisa was my bridal attendant and she was amazing not just at taking care of me and my husband, but also looking after our parents, as well--making sure we were doing well, eating, drinking and looking our best at all times. The food was amazing. So many guests came up to us to rave about the food from the cocktail hour, to dinner, to the Viennese table (it was not just 1 table by the way) which was a huge hit! Douglaston Manor has been around for a really long time. The mansion was actually a private home built for the Hicks family back in the 1800's. Not sure exactly when it was converted to an events venue, but it's certainly been there as long as I can remember. I grew up a few miles west of "the manor" and it was always "the" place to go for lots of events. In recent years, I've attended a taekwondo holiday/awards party/dinner here and I love being back in the neighborhood. This past weekend they hosted another fantastic gathering. The food was decent and most of the staff that I encountered were awesome. Seemed that there were a few kids that were a little green and working on their social skills doing the serving, but overall, they did a great job. Food received mixed reviews - I had the sea bass and thought it was excellent. Light, flaky and not an iota of fishiness. The chicken was reportedly a bit dry and the beef slightly overcooked. So, I made the best decision by ordering the fish. Pretty sure this event will take place at Douglaston Manor again next year...I look forward to going back. read more

This was not the first event I've attended here, probably the 5th, but definitely my first time attending where it was not a party atmosphere. I attended an event here yesterday, and the service we received was stellar. We started off at a reception cocktail hour, and in the center of the Side Ballroom, there were crudite and a cheese plate available for self serve. The bar was also open, and the bartenders were attentive to all the guests pouring drinks as quickly as they could. Wait staff quickly cleaned off dirty plates from tables, and would wipe up the food stations of debris. Later in the evening, there was an award with multiple speakers. All the while, the waiters moved seamlessly throughout the night quietly Distributing dishes to the guests, doing their best not to make any of the glasses or silverware clink against the plates, and ducking their heads as to not interfere with the videographer or photographers. Our waiter specifically, José, was an absolute Rockstar! I happen to have a front row seat not only to the speaker's during the awards ceremony, but to the waiters and him, carrying multiple plates, pitchers, and glasses, as he glided almost silently across the room. I also watched as they meticulously looked at their seating charts and handed out entrees like choreography. The food was okay, I would say ranging from average to better than average for catering hall fare. My order for medium rare tri-tip steak strips were closer to medium and medium well, but the chianti rosemary sauce it came with was a good accompaniment. The guest next to me had the sea bass, and she gobbled the whole thing up; it looked flaky, yet tender and well seasoned. The guest on the other side of me had the chicken piccata, which looked a bit on the dry side. My only qualm with the venue is the bathroom. There are signs in each stall that indicate that the toilets are self Auto flushing. However after handling your business, the toilets either don't or barely flush! When you attempt to flush them with the button, the buttons don't work. So what you're left with is multiple stalls with other people's business. No one wants to see that. And that leaves the ladies room with half the Stalls that are dirty, and a bit of a line since no one wants to use those stalls. So if coming here, hit the potty early, and get the beef or fish entree. read more

I came here during Memorial Day weekend for a wedding and I've got to say, well done Douglaston Manor! Here are the highlights: - The valet guys were pretty darn good: I drive a Subaru so it's not the flashiest car on the lot by any means but it's clean, looks decently good, and is almost sort-of kinda sleek.. and they obliged with my request to keep it nearby (since I knew I was going to leave fairly early). - One of the gals who was bringing around the trays of horderves seemed to keep coming to me and my friends first every time she restocked (refilled?). Trust me folks, it pays to be a good tipper! - They have a really cute courtyard to the left of the entrance where people go to take phone calls/smoke cigs/get some almost-fresh air. - It's literally built on top of their golf-course so the grass behind the manor looks so perfect (I wish my lawn looked a 1/4th that good). - Soo easy to get to. Literally jump on the LIE or Grand Central and you're there in no time (obviously depending from where you start) If I ever get married, I reckon it'll probably be a destination wedding (Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mars?) but for those folks who'd rather do it locally, I highly recommend Douglaston Manor. read more

I came here for a friends wedding just last month and unfortunately, didn't get to see and explore the outside as it was raining. They had an area for the ceremony which was decent sized and fit quite a number of people. Not sure of the exact number but there were rows of 4 on each side and maybe 20 rows total? But overall it was a nice ceremony, it had enough space in between so it wouldn't feel squished. The reception... there were a few tables on the inside, tables of food, a small open bar and another room for an extra event. The bartenders were really nice, at the end of the night, the guy knew my name. Perhaps I was his best customer haha. The reception food... supposedly reception food is usually better than the actual dinner, however I want to say otherwise. We were served pasta, sweet and sour chicken? (I've forgotten of that's what it was but I did not like it. the chicken breast was way overcooked and difficult to swallow), they also had cheese and meats on a round table in the middle, pigs in a blanket, eggplant, some more pasta, and brisket was it? Nothing stood out. There weren't enough seating for everyone, mainly cause it was raining and people didn't go out to the patio area, although there were individual umbrellas covering the tables. Now, moving onto the actual wedding. I felt a bit cramped in between the long rectangular tables. That could just be a me thing. But again, we're seated next to a speaker... you would think you'd be able to hear the MC nice and clear, however we couldn't. Not even sure it was on at some point. The waiters were pretty good though, attentive and took our orders by name. The food... I really want to say good things but it wasn't anything special. I've had better steak at a regular restaurant, and not to say the more popular places. Sure it was cooked to medium rare, but that's it. Flavor was alright, and overall tasted like it should. The ravioli and asparagus, not sure if they matched well with one another. Everything was edible though. They did have other options like seabass, chicken parmesan, or vegetarian options. Perhaps they were better? Everywhere was easy to get to, bathrooms were a bit of a walk towards the back but nothing too bad, it was quite fancy. Came here for a wedding. The cocktail hour was held outside lucky for us the weather coorperated! It was overlooking the golf course. Stations were scattered around. There seemed to be plenty seating. They even had those cool lounge like chairs and couches. When it was time to head inside. Everything was great except i am not a fan of the "T" style room we were in. We could not see the bride and groom where we sat. Can barely see the dance floor. I personally like the wide open room dance floor in the middle set up. But this room did not offer it. I ordered the steak for dinner and it was delicious! I have a long history with this location. Way back I would come here weekly to have a delicious dinner, listen to live music, and have fabulous drinks. Recently, we decided to use this location for my daughter's bridal shower. I realized that they were under new management and eliminated the restaurant and bar. They only do catering. This place looks like it did so many years ago but unfortunately, I noticed that it was in need in maintenance. The old look is so refreshing but not the so many items that needed repairs. Since it was a bridal shower, I was not there for the entire event but received many comments. My wife was the biggest critic and complained that this place lacked adequate staff to service our event and that the quality of the food was considered subpar. It seems many refused to eat their entree due to taste while others ordered an entree and received something else! Also I had to make many trips from the vehicle to venue without any assistance from this place! And of course from the venue to my vehicle was also done by me! I personally felt that I did not receive the quality of service I expected. Also, I was told that a few chairs were so dirty that guests made a complaint for a clean one! The floor was dirty which indicates that they never prepared the room from last nights venue! My son's wedding was at the Manor on Friday. The staff - from the Banquet Manager Kathy to Jose the Maitre'd to the Bridal Attendant Lisa and the rest of the staff, were all wonderful. Any request was taken care of. Even the last minute decision of the groom's band to play a few songs. The view from the terrace was amazing, the green of the golf course with a beautiful sunset and the twinkling lights of Manhattan in the distance. Everyone had a great time. We attended the first wedding expo here and it was our first wedding venue we visited. The venue overall was local and nice. There were some hits and misses with the setup and presentation of the space. The first miss was there were in the middle of partial renovations and we had to share parking space with the people who play golf. The outdoor area was nice and ideal for an outdoor celebrations which would be a hit for a summer wedding. The indoor area which is the main ballroom was decent size but we were not feeling the setup of the bride and groom situated in front of the fireplace which was located to the side of the ballroom. The DJ booth was in the middle of the room as one would walk in, so these were misses. The highlight of the experience was the balcony of the bridal suite which was set up historically and designed as if it was Romeo and Juliet. However, touring the bridal suite we were not feeling the archaic furniture but the view of the balcony was amazing. We also tasted the food that was offered and it was ok not memorable. However the bartender who made the cocktails was memorable. Meanwhile we visited another room in the venue which was intimate and actually if we had to choose we would choose this room. It is definitely a place to consider for an event such as a bridal shower, baby shower or even a birthday party. read more

I was here for my cousin's wedding about 2 weeks ago. I don't see why people are giving them a hard time. Some background: I am in the food industry and know what to look for and what is proper. The waitstaff was attentive and properly dressed. I've heard this was an issue in the past, but it has clearly been fixed. These guys were on top of things. I got my drinks quickly and my food was right. Food: definitely above average (and not just for a catering hall). The spread was outstanding and my chicken avellino was moist. The sea scallops wrapped in bacon was a killer appetizer. One of those dishes that make you feel like you're in a proper hall. View: you can see NYC from the outside. The place is on a golf course and has such an amazing sunset. Inside, the place is like a mansion. Your own private mansion. Must be nice to live like this. The place is a solid catering hall. First time here for a retirement party and I was very pleased with the place. I've heard people talk about this venue and I finally got to come. Here's the breakdown: Parking: plenty of parking when you drive up the entrance and roll down to their private lot. The venue: it was very spacious with doors that lead outdoor from the inside. You can have a smoke or enjoy the fresh air when people aren't smoking. Food (most important): on point!! We had the buffet style dinner and the penne, fish & of course the cutting station for the meats were the best. Overall an enjoyable time at a nice venue. I would come back again. read more

I had my daughter's wedding in this beautiful paradise, it was delightful!! The view was spectacular, the whole place just had a magical feeling of being with nature. Our guests had so many wonderful comments and had the opportunity to enjoy the spacious indoor area and the terrace with the green surroundings that created a picture-perfect wedding venue. We all felt so welcome in this romantic, classy Douglaston Manor. It will always hold a special place in our hearts. I had my baby shower at The Douglaston Manor this past Saturday in the Conservatory room. Everything was AMAZING!! The food was delicious, choice red wine braised beef, chicken piccata, sea bass, or eggplant rollatini. Everyone really enjoyed their lunch. We also had an ice cream sundae bar. The room was beautiful and nicely decorated. All the staff was very helpful and professional. The service really was flawless. A pure disgrace in how cancellations of events have been mishandled due to COVID... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE... That is unless you want to be charged for services that were never rendered. CDC guidelines prohibit them and us from hosting our event, which is understandable and out of anyone's control, but they refuse to provide us with a full refund. Claudia has given us a run around for 2 months without a resolution. They are unprofessional and I would never consider doing business with them again or recommending their services to anyone. Absolutely beautiful venue for a wedding!! We held our wedding here in Sept 2022 and this venue - a 170-year-old Spanish-style mansion just outside of Queens - has the best combination of indoor and outdoor spaces to host your event. It has the most beautiful private garden with a water fountain for a ceremony of all the venues we looked at across multiple states. The venue also has an amazing patio overlooking a golf course and the NYC skyline that we used for cocktail hour, and delicious/plentiful food. Everyone at the manor - Claudia, Kathy, Carlos, Lisa - was incredibly nice and helped us set up and break down after the wedding. The staff was also accommodating to us bringing in our own desserts, which many venues we looked at did not allow. All of our guests raved about the venue's beauty and said the place was magical. Also, the location is phenomenal - half of our guests flew in for the wedding and the venue is a 15 min drive from both JFK and LaGuardia airports. 100/10 recommend this site for any special event you want to host. read more

I was here last night for a 50th wedding anniversary, and the property is nice and the view of the city in the far off distance from the patio was great. I must say the waiting staff was fantastic and extremely helpful to our family and guests. However, the decor could use a nice touch up. If they modernized it a bit. The yellow brown walls makes you feel like this is an outdated venue. The food was subpar. My chicken came out bland but my fiancés shrimp came out very salty. * This review is based solely on a one time tour/visit for my upcoming wedding. * My fiance and I were engaged in December and didn't really start looking into things until after the holidays. We have looked at 3 other venues: The Prospect Park Boathouse, Deity Brooklyn and Water's Edge. Prospect Park Boathouse has been my dream wedding venue for years but it doesn't meet our budget (rates start $170 per person + site fees). We were surprised to like Water's Edge being that their Yelp reviews aren't fantastic. From the outside, it looks 'meh' but the ballroom is pretty and has an old world feel to it. Water's Edge gave us a rate of $120 per person but we decided not to go with it because of the additional fees (valet parking, gratuity, administration fees...). Deity is a beautiful out of the box venue for a wedding. It came very close but Ciao (the person who handles private events) suggested that we don't do an open bar and that we do a capped tab (we set a price limit and then open bar comes to a stop). We had an appointment to check out the space but decided not to because it just seems shady that they require " NYS sales tax and a 20% gratuity to pay staff will be applied to ALL payments." It's just weird that they'd ask for gratuity multiple times. Which led me to look elsewhere. I NEVER imagined to get married in a manor because to me, it seems so cookie-cutter. I found out about the Douglaston Manor via TheKnot and after looking at various wedding photos online, I was already in love with the venue. I read Yelp reviews about it and they weren't amazing but my fiance and I decided to check it out anyway and we were glad that we did. We really don't see a lot of negative things about this place. I mean, if manors aren't your thing then you probably won't like it but then again, I was one of those people.. We called them on a Sunday and made an appointment to see it the same day and they were very cooperative. We showed up way earlier than the time we initially told them and we did wait maybe 10 minutes but they allowed us to roam around and they even offered us cookies and coffee. We met Anthony who was so nice and showed us every room and answered every question we had. My fiance and I really liked that we can use multiple rooms. We like that the time between ceremony and cocktail hour is short. We like that it's in a great area and that it is secluded in a way. We love that it is accessible by public transportation. We like that they have stations during cocktail hour (we get to pick 3 with a 100 guests). We like that everything is included: food, venue, tables, chairs, linens, napkins, glasses, plates, silverware, cake... My fiance will be having a cigar/ whiskey booth. I love that I get a legit bridal suite with a bathroom AND a balcony overlooking the reception space. I also especially love that my groom gets to have his own suite (this is for an additional fee but they will give it to you if no parties are being held at the same time). Btw, there is a lounge area between the bridal and groom suites. I also love that they not only have a ceremony arch but 2 arches: one in the garden and one overlooking the golf course. I also love that they allow sparklers and gratuity is included in the rate they gave us. For a Friday night wedding with 100 guests, our total (pre tax) is around $12,000. The only 'bad' thing I have to say about Douglaston Manor is that staying the night isn't an option. And there is a painting in the main reception room that I am not quite fond of but whatever, I can deal with that. *I will update after we attend their bridal showcase on March 1st (we get to do tastings). read more

The service is so poor ... there is such a level of disconnect, you'd think that the waiters did not apply for the position but wandered in off the street. First, they put out pretzels as an appetizer ... huh? And, they were stale! I was starving so I ate every last one. Then, like another reviewer said, you'd think they had stock in the bread. I had to ask 4 waiters for bread. One of the waiters came back about 20 minutes later and said, with empty hands, "oh, you got the bread?" Nothing screams poverty like pasta primavera which was only edible b/c they added a stick of butter and butter could make shit taste good. The dinner was salmon with dijon sauce. The dijon sauce was decent but the salmon was too wet and had that gray slimy matter on it that salmon has when it sucks. The waiter seemed selective about who got water and who didn't. I asked for a sprite and when I finally got it, he spilled most of it on me. It was the kind of awful where you can't even get mad, it almost seems acceptable. The pastries were actually good, I was stunned. I asked for a second mini pecan pastry and as with several other things, the waiter forgot. When I asked again, he said that he wasn't allowed to bring another one. I'll also include the hilarity of the waiters bringing out food and forgetting who got what and then walking away with it while you could see people desperately hoping it was their food b/c they were starving, the waiters constantly knocking into one another, dishes crashing, etc. I would pay someone NOT to go here for any reason. I was there last night for a wedding, and I was surprised about how bad it is. It does have some good qualities: the on-site golf course provides a very nice backdrop. The cocktail hour included some decent food, such as whole lobsters and good paella. And the Viennese desserts were the highlight - very impressive selection. But given that I'm old enough to have been to dozens of wedding receptions, I've experienced MUCH better. So, brides-to-be, please do your research. The service was completely bumbling. Not mean or creepy; just completely inept. The following are some examples. The tables had 12 people. The staff put 8 rolls to go around. We had to make it a point to ask for more, as if it wasn't obvious. No butter or olive oil either. Flat champagne sat at the table upon our seating. We waited for a toast that never occurred, and then later the staff just takes back everyone's full glasses. I asked for another bottle of wine (one red and one white at the 12-person table) - no dice. Later they ask if we want coffee. People say "yes," the staff gives us mugs, and everything seems peachy. Except they never brought the coffee. The main room (it's really kinda two adjacent rooms) abuts another reception room where a Sweet 16 happened to be going on. So, the toasts to the bridge and groom begin, and all we hear is the music from the other party bumpin'. It was really awkward. As a guest, I have no idea how much the wedding cost. So, again, I would be very careful in considering this place because I've been to much nicer places. If this place is dirt cheap (which I doubt), then perhaps it's worth it. But if not, I would strongly advise against having a wedding here. Maybe it's fine for Sweet 16's and the like. But if I was someone who takes these receptions very seriously, I would never book this place. read more

My daughter's middle school prom was here. The buffet was lack luster and the waiter staff is inexperienced since they were mostly high schoolers. The waiter that served me on the buffet line was sloppy. He just threw the steak on my plate. The wait staff was eating and drinking in front of us. No one picked up spills. Preface - I didnt come here for golf but I couldn't find the one for Douglaston Manor, the cartering joint that comes with the golf course. I went there yesterday for a CLE (continuing legal education) class. I know what you're thinking - FUN. It wasn't. The extent of fun you can have hearing about land surveys and adverse possession, contrary to popular belief, is very limited. The one thing I was looking forward to was the meal that would accompany this wonderfully mentally stimulating academic fun factory. Unfortunately, the chicken was like the class...very dry. The cookies served for dessert was like the material...too hard. And the coffee that I would have liked to have came too late (they started serving it when the lecture ended...and I was NOT staying for the Q&A). The golf course is nice! While the setting was lovely, I have to say the staff could use some serious customer service training. The food was lack luster to say the least. Calling underdone chicken on a stick, chicken satay is an insult to Thai food and sans dipping sauce The main meal steak and fish arrived cold and some plates could use a little tidy before leaving the kitchen. They turned the heat off. When we left at 10:00 it was 64 degrees in the room. During the event a huge roach walked across the floor. My nephew stepped on it and kicked it under an unused table. Ok space for a special event/wedding reception. Food is probably frozen/canned and was not good at all.

I came here for a wedding and the physical plant was actually in the style of a beautiful Italian villa. I really wanted to like the place which overlooks the golf course, but the food was horrible! The appetizers were of poor quality frozen fare such as chicken tenders, mozz sticks, pigs in a blanket, etc. There was a mash potato station which was actually the best thing. The crab cakes were also frozen fair and flavorless...I just had the steak as well which was ordered med well and brought out rare which I sent back and it returned with the consistency of rubber! read more

I'm right now celebrating my cousin's wedding And the waiter for our table is so rude and very disrespectful. Got to the point that he did not bring my pasta to the table. I recently got married on October 10th at Douglaston Manor ... It was amazing! I received so many compliments on the food especially the Asian station at the cocktail hour which was Claudia (the owner) suggestion. Everything went perfectly, from the moment we booked our date the staff at Douglaston was amazing! I wanted special color table cloths, a custom cake, and to be the only bride! Claudia delivered everything I asked for! My custom gold cake was picture perfect even more beautiful than what I could have imagined. I took my wife he for Thanksgiving dinner buffet. The food was horrible. Prime rib was so overcooked, she couldn't even chew it. Broiled filet of sole was dry and tasteless. Roast pork was hard like shoe leather. We had a waitress who brought us a drink, took dirty dishes. She never came over to see if we needed anything. Why, you ask. Because she was busy talking to her boyfriend who was in charge of the carving station. What a waste of $55 per person. The owner is on old-time Italian man who doesn't care. It's a shame because it's a beautiful room. But the poor service and really lousy food ( cost me $150) made the dinner a huge disappointment. I'll never go back. read more

This was my first time here with my family for Thanksgiving. We were a party of 25 with kids. We all had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere, service and food was amazing! There was large portions of appetizers, pasta, raviolis, main course and delicious sweets. We had a private room with a bar over looking the golf course, it felt like we were in the comfort of our own home while being served and not having any pots, pans and dishes to clean. We all are very satisfied and highly recommend giving this place try! Will definitely be back in the future! read more

Outside of the management, I'd give them 4-5 stars for food and decor. I had a reception at the Douglaston Manor June 2012. The venue is beautiful. The food is delicious. The management...can be annoying. They are confident that the job gets done right, but the tipping point was when as I'm arriving for the event, mgmt tells me my payments fell short and want to settle as I am getting ready to make an entrance. I told them the final payment was due two weeks prior, and that it had been made in full and they should check their records. "No Problem!" was the response but I learned they then went to others behind my back to say the same thing. After hovering around holding paperwork for about 2 hours+, the maitre 'd & mgr approach me at my dinner table to tell me they are all set. I felt like giving a scarcastic response but I just nodded. Point being- mistakes can happen on either end of course- but bookkeeping should be done before the event day and certainly not during the party. I am not saying this to deter you from using the venue because, as I said, it is beautiful, and my guests had a wonderful time. Just be a tough cookie, keep good records and don't react hastily to any money matters with them. I also enjoyed having an attendent- she was great, even more helpful than the maitre'd. read more
