I was very fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Takeuchi by a friend of mine about 7 years ago. Dr. Takeuchi did an initial review, laid out the options, explained the cost, and made recommendations for treatment. I have been going back ever since, for twice-yearly cleanings, annual x-rays, & crown repair and filling-replacement, as needed. At the appointments, Dr. Takeuchi explains in advance the steps of the procedure and their expected duration, and then completes the job exactly as projected. He is very professional, efficient and extremely hard-working. I marvel at his ability to handle so many patients and with such detailed care. Dr. Takeuchi's staff is friendly and cheerful, always on top of things, and send out timely text reminders in advance of appointments. Just this morning, Dr. Takeuchi repaired an old filling and filled a small cavity (oops, more brushing, flossing and Water-Piking needed!). I created this Yelp account many years ago to help a friend out but realized as I became a business owner how important reviews were to customers and owners. Earlier, my friend and I was on the topic of dentistry and he asked me who mine was! It has been way too long since I've seen Dr. Takeuchi - I've moved to LA and I realized I never gave him a proper review after my last visit. A friend of mine who used to work for his practice recommended him to me during my college days and I had the worst dental fear of life. Thankfully, his sedative options made it possible for me to see him during those times in need. Since I haven't been able to see him in years, I've developed an even more rigorous oral hygiene routine than ever. So far, no issues and it's been years. I really wish I could teleport myself back to his office just for a check up. The thought of finding a new dentist down here feels very daunting. I called Dr. Takeuchi's office about an issue with an old filling. They called me right back and scheduled and appointment that day. They looked at the filling and took an X-ray. I was told that it was a filling that they had put in many years ago. At this point they could have said that it needed to be replaced (probably a little expensive). Instead, Dr. Takeuchi informed me that it was wearing, but they would keep an eye on it and it didn't need to be replaced at this time. Had an emergency. Unfortunately the dentist I had was unavailable. So I called the nearest dentist with good reviews. She had a very unhelpful front desk, just answered: "X X Dental." No "Good afternoon," or "How may I help you." I told her the insurance I had, asked if they're taking new patients, and got a short reply "yes." I said that I had an emergency and right away she said that the first availability would be next week. I said "but it's an emergency," and she just said "we don't have anything open." Really? At least pretend to check with the dentist or something...So the things listed on their website: friendly staff - nope, same-day emergency exam - another nope. Thank U, next! I was going to leave a bad review for that place but maybe they did me a favor, so I let it go. Called up Dr. Takeuchi next, and a very cheery woman answered my questions, put me on hold, was able to squeeze me in at the end of the day, and even offered to call me back to verify my insurance benefits after sensing my concern about the coverage I had. And she did. My appointment went smoothly and efficiently. Great first impression: Dr. T answered all my questions, eased my fear of pain, and he has a helpful team, and a clean practice with high tech equipment. Hmm, a little hesitant about posting though - it seems he's already busy enough that the next regular appointment isn't available until almost a month later. But gotta give credit where credit's due. I fell and broke my bridge in 2019 but I am so scared of dentists I went around with missing front teeth for 3 years. Finally I started searching for sedation dentists and found Dr Takeuchi. He is AMAZING!!! He is the only dentist I have ever had that made sure there was no problem with my meds! He really cares and he does excellent work. My teeth were a mess. So I had a very long appointment which included root canal, fillings and more AND I DON'T REMEMBER ANY OF IT!! And now I have no pain and can eat anything. I will never go to another dentist. Dr Takeuchi is the BEST dentist I have EVER had. I switched to him a few years back from a referral from a friends mom. I went in recently to try and get a tooth whitened- when in fact I learned that it was a dead tooth and would need a root canal. I didn't have a good experience with a root canal a few years earlier at another dentist (which is why I changed). Long story short- I got the root canal and had no pain during or after the procedure! He bleached my tooth twice and my smile was back to an even color! I would recommend Dr Takeuchi for everyone as he is very good at what he does!!! Dr T needs to update the staff photo! My update regards the excellent and accurate appointment scheduling in this practice. I don't know whether the office uses scheduling software, or whether he knows from experience, but it's very accurate, every time. In contrast, every single one of the three dentists my belle-mère has seen, including two specialists, not only can't they give her the length of time she'll be there, they will change her appointments out from under her with less than 24 hours notice, usually earlier (oh joy), the day before or after. The usual excuse is "he won't know until he looks in her mouth." No time range, nothing. Since she wants me to go with her, it affects me as well. Her periodontist is the worst, as it could be 15 min to 3 hrs, because "he won't know until he looks in her mouth." Today, I actually asked her main doctor's schedule, and got an answer of "20 minutes" for a permanent crown, following today's 2hr session--she's getting an(other) implant, this time, a post and crown. This makes at least three teeth which have fallen out: they were loose. Her gums are in good condition. One of the crowns fell out three days later. I am so not impressed, but her main dentist is her choice. I really appreciate your scheduling accuracy. When I get a call about a potential earlier slot, it's usually with adequate notice. I can't always take it, but that's always ok. read more

I have been with Dr. Takeuchi (Dr. T.) for about 20 years now.. I had my son start with him when he was 3 1/2 and we both absolutely adore and love Dr. T. Going to the dentist is now actually a pleasure using Dr. T's office!! You will NEVER find a more gentle kinder Dentist with magic hands such as Dr. T.. You will NEVER be surprised while he treats of what "comes next" and what you will hear and feel nor how much each treatment costs BEFORE he does the work. He maps the treatments by urgency and location so you know whats going on... He is AWESOME with kids and also the most sensitive with people like me who are scared as all hell from going to the dentist (childhood trauma) needing a Valium to get some courage to go through the door until I found him BY THE GRACE OF GOD. Once you try him you will never go anywhere else Dr. Takeuchi might not be the cheapest BUT he uses the BEST materials available in the market and ALWAYS guarantee his SUPREME work and will fix and address ANY issues if that's even possible.. Dr. Takeuchi is my first and ONLY Dentist I will EVER use!!! (those other places giving out cheaper treatments but soon after you will need to re-do the work.... Ohhhhh wait - I forgot the TV you can control and watch - its on the ceiling so when you sit in his amazing comfortable chairs you can watch your fav shows, (so cool), the laughing gas (awesome!!) and if need be he offers treatments while you are sedated and - what dentist appointment? hahahaha Dr. T. wants and it is his passion to help anyone with fear of dentists and so if you are terrified as I was Dr. T. will have you come, see the office meet the amazing staff just so you can have the feel of his office NOW! It brings tears to my eyes thinking of the heart this man has. He is a top notch and modern dentist who explains everything he is doing so you know exactly what's going on. Why the tears? Because my dad and mom were patients of his a few years back when they were still alive. At one point daddy was bedridden and in a lot of pain with his teeth. Dr. Takeuchi told me if I could bring daddy in, he would accommodate our situation. I arranged an ambulance to take daddy to the office and Dr. Takeuchi's staff moved the office furniture out of the way to accommodate an ambulance stretcher carrying my most prized possession. It was a long and trying appointment for my dad, but he returned home with his issues taken care of and feeling much better. I just read Dr. Takeuchi's blurb about "who he is" - he's not lying. He is definitely the worst dentist I have ever been to. I don't recommend anyone to go to Takeuchi's office. He has some serious anger management issues. Doug has a very condescending attitude and does things how he wants, refusing to listen to patient's concerns. He tried to fix one tooth and ended up damaging two other ones. Don't ever go to this office, you will regret it. Go to this office if you want all of your teeth to be destroyed and fall out. The front desk staff were personable and knowledgeable about insurance coverages. This is the first dental office where I have experienced a tour of the facility on my first visit and watched an informative video presentation. Dr. Takeuchi is my third dentist (since 2012), and he is the best one by far. He may just be as good as it gets. In my opinion, regard for one's dentist is very subjective. I maintain the world's most ferocious gag reflex ever. Dr. Takeuchi and staff have done great things. I no longer regard a dentist appointment as a terrifying experience. He introduced me to nitrous oxide and sedation dentistry, both of which work very well. With sedation sessions, he does what he does, and next day, I can't tell you what happened. And, it doesn't come to me in the following days. I rate Dr. Takeuchi most highly in dental technology. He has a very competent vibe and transfers his confidence to his patients. The office is high-tech and very busy. He even has DIRECTV (you can run the remote yourself) with headphones. The monitor is in the ceiling for easy viewing. My most recent hygiene appointment was with Lisa. She was totally informed about my history and my legendary gag reflex. All went extremely well, and I felt better after the appointment than before. Call and inquire about your dental insurance before you go, because you don't want to pay more than you expect. The parking lot can be full, so arrive early to deal with it. read more

As a young girl, we were poor and never really went to the dentist. Wanting to start to take care of my teeth in my 20's, I went to a dentist here in San Jose. The RDA decided to shred my gums during a cleaning. When I told him it hurt, and to stop, he gave me attitude. I ended up walking out. Since then, I get very anxious at the dentist, even as far as crying. After a weekend of tooth pain.. and wasting the whole weekend in pain, and popping ibuprofen, I decided I needed to find a dentist for "cry babies" and get to the dentist asap. The Yelp reviews for Dr. Takeuchi were great! I somewhat doubted that I'd be happy, but I needed help! I called first thing Monday morning, and I was able to get in at 11:30. I explained that I'm a chicken..and I was assured that I would be taken care of. I was taken to the back by Gabby, who was amazzzzing.. She gave me a tour. When she put me in the chair, it began.. the tears. She was soooo nice about it. I felt silly for crying, but couldn't stop it. She calmed me, and took my mind off off everything. Once I met Dr. Takeuchi, i was still emotional, he too told me I'd be taken care of, and that they had many different levels of anxiety come through their office. I always feel terrible for the people who have to look in my mouth..it's not a pretty picture. From years of neglect..I have broken teeth, and chips,to name a few issues. Dr. Takeuchi and his staff, have started me on the road to taking care of my teeth. I finally feel comfortable with the Dentist AND the staff. Something I've never had before. Love, love, love this office. I get terrible anxiety/panic attacks and have never been able to find a dentist that put me at ease enough to get any work done. After a recommendation from a coworker, I found Dr. Takeuchi and couldn't be happier. Everyone at the office is very kind and understanding. They started me out with a little nitrous oxide and headphones and scheduled me for two of my 6 fillings. After nearly bursting into tears halfway through the procedure, they were more than happy to just fill one tooth and re-scheduled me for sedation. I'd love to go into detail about my 2nd visit, but I don't remember it! I just know that my teeth are healthy now and I'm able to have cleaning done with hardly any anxiety at all. I've been a little too lax about going to the dentist since college (ie not going at all) and really needed to set up with someone out here in San Jose. A co-worker overheard me saying I was looking for a practice and apparently half my office goes to Dr. Takeuchi! I think they even have a referral program where the person who sent me to Dr. Takeuchi gets some free movie tickets or something... so refer your friends. (my housemates are convinced I've joined a cult... but I mean who doesn't love free movies?) So why refer your friends besides free movies? This office is legit. They have direct TV in the ceilings and digital xrays and all that fancy stuff that the other reviews are raving about. But the highlight for me? They use a numbing jell that is 3X as potent as the average dentist office's. I had a particularly bad cavity (surprise surprise after skipping the dentist for so long) and I was never uncomfortable during the procedure. I just sad back and watched some syndicated episodes of Las Vegas (they caught a peeping tom in the casino...). Professional staff, clean office, and Dr. Takeuchi does a good job of explaining what he's doing and why, what he proposes happen next etc. There's a separate consult room so that the people up front don't hear what kind of work you're having done and he even takes pictures to show you what happened while he was drilling into your mouth. (The scare tactic worked, I bought a sonic care tooth brush at coscto last weekend). I would recommend Dr. Takeuchi to anyone. I can't speak to the one negative review here, perhaps just a bad day? when i moved to silicon valley last year, i was referred to dr. takeuchi by my former dentist. although i've only been with dr. takeuchi's practise for about half a year, i've been very pleased with the results of his work. his office boasts high-tech, state of the art dental equipment, which allows him to do his best work in taking care of my teeth. he also has his staff working like a very well-oiled rig. there is one person who is the receptionist/front desk, one person to take care of all the financials/insurance, and a team of dental hygienists. no one likes to feel the pain of having dental work done, and i, for one, have a very low tolerance for pain. i appreciate dr. takeuchi's use of numbing gel before he gives the oral injections to fully numb my mouth. as a result, i pretty much never feel a thing once he starts working on my teeth. and the numbing lasts well beyond the appt, so i know that he's given me enough drugs to keep me from feeling any pain. couple of things about his practise: 1. he is definitely on the expensive side (with or without insurance), but you're paying for high quality work done with high-tech equipment. 2. twice yearly teeth cleanings are done by the dental hygienist, not dr. takeuchi himself. this came as a surprise to me as i've never had anyone except for the dentist himself, clean my teeth. however, the hygienists are very good and thorough. overall, i would recommend dr. takeuchi as he certainly knows what he's doing and does a great job with his patients' teeth. read more

I am extremely afraid of going to the dentist. I cant say how happy I am that I found him and his team. I have had the sedation procedures done twice now and both times I don't remember anything at all!! you just wake up and everything is done! While I would say yes the prices for the procedures are a little higher than some other dentist, the actual cost for the sedation (which is not normally covered by insurance) was a lot lower then other places I had looked into. Mary Ann A.: Cyndi, the financial coordinator, said "We love our patients." And I experience this as absolutely true. Dr. Takeuchi and staff are my dental family. I had a bump on my gum and it tuned out I needed to have the tooth extracted and an a tooth implant. I was very nervous and Cyndi reassured me with a hug saying every thing would be ok. And everything has been ok with the help from the Dr. T and every person on the staff. Over the weekend I experienced a rash from the antibiotics. I texted Dr. T and he texted me right back with the directions of what to do. I felt anxious about another issue, I texted him and he helped me right away even though the office was closed. Dr. T has educational meetings with his staff. I had questions right after the extraction. Cyndi gave me exact directions of what to do and not to do. I would call in periodically and Heather, the scheduling coordinator, would help me. Hannah, Porsche and Cinthya, all RDAs, were always there to reassure me and answer questions. Deena, RH, cleans my teeth semi annually and she is so much fun(We laugh and talk when she is not in my mouth.) She gave me wonderful advice about what to do because now I am allergic to the antibiotic. Cheryl is the other RH and is very nice. I have not had her but I can see she is excellent also. Like Cyndi said "We love our patients." And I totally experience this. I enjoy my dental visits and I have fun at each visit no matter whether it is routine or an implant procedure. I'd had the same dentist since I was a kid, but hadn't seen a dentist since I moved to CA in 2006. I knew I needed to get in to see one and I had been referred to several other dentists, but when I looked them up, I just didn't feel a connection. Last week, a co-worker referred me to Dr. Takeuchi, so I checked him out (right here on Yelp!), looked at his website, etc. I called and made an appt. for an initial consult and exam. When I arrived, they had already entered in my health insurance information, so all I had to fill out was a little questionnaire (this is typically mailed, but I was able to get in so quickly, they didn't have time to mail it). I had a tour of the office, then my initial exam/consult, followed by a financial consult to talk about the cost of the work I needed, payment options, etc Then it was back to the front desk to schedule my next appt. Things run so smoothly in this office! The team is very professional, friendly and cohesive and you can just feel the happy vibes :) Everything in this office is state of the art - TVs on the ceiling of each exam room so you can watch a show while you're getting your teeth cleaned, sanitizing equipment is top notch, x-rays and pictures are done quickly and smoothly, all their dental equipt and tools are cutting edge and the restroom alone is 5 stars! These guys are out-of-network for me, so all my work could be free through another dentist, but I feel safe and confident in Dr. Takeuchi's team and feel that it is definitely worth paying a bit out of my own pocket for such excellent care. I've only had two visits and I'm already a raving fan and referring all my friends to him :) Keep up the GREAT work! read more

Dr.T is the best! His staff is just as great! They are friendly and provide some of the best customer service I have ever seen at a dentist! I am NOT an easy customer, my teeth are bad and my dental habits are.... not the best haha. I am super picky and always late. They are never anything but amazing even when its my 5th call of the day with yet another request for more paperwork for my insurance. Speaking of insurance they make it so easy, they aren't a preferred provider for most insurance but they do alllllll the paperwork and are geniuses with working with your coverage and budget to get you exactly what you need! As far as dentistry skills? Dr. T is the best dentist I have ever had and like I said I have bad teeth, my teeth are more fillings than natural teeth at this point and he makes sure He takes care of me, fixing things the right way, helping me understand what he does and why and how I can take care of my teeth. I Just left Dr. Takeuchi's office an hour ago and felt I needed to write a review as soon as possible. If i could give 6 stars, I would. 2 days ago I went into his office for the first time. I hadn't been to the dentist in a few years so I was very nervous, but a family member recommended Dr. Takeuchi, so I went in despite my fears. Let me just say, I love this office! I was immediately greeted by Lauri at the font desk. She is amazing and very nice. I was given a tour of the office and felt very comfortable sitting in the chair waiting for my x-rays. My dental assistant was so nice and friendly, she made me feel very at ease, and was always confirming that I was comfortable. She also made small talk with me while we waited for the Dr. and it was not awkward at all. Shes very sweet. Patty, the woman who cleaned my teeth, is very funny and does an amazing job. Dr Takeuchi, is great!! He explains everything he is doing in your mouth to make sure there are no surprises and also makes you laugh every now and again. After he was done he took me into his office and explained all his findings, but did not make me feel bad, and ensured me he would get me back on the right path. I had to come back today for a few fillings. He was efficient and always ensured me that I was doing a great job in the chair.
