If you're looking for a fine dining experience, you may wish to consider someplace else. This is a…read moreno-frills casual experience where you order at the counter and sit down. This also means they expect to be tipped before you get your meal. Our table service was pretty lackluster. There's country music playing overhead and a couple of flat screens to stare at, but not much else. I heard they sold wine here, but their selection is terrible. There's a few commercial choices of beer and a seltzer, but not much else which is why we settled on a cup of water. We got the Caesar salad (which looked really good), the lasagna and a pepperoni/mushroom calzone. Both our meals came out several minutes apart, and my calzone was a real disappointment. The marinara came out in a small plastic cup, and it was literally ice cold!! After I cut through the calzone I noticed they had completely forgotten the mushrooms even though I paid for them. To make matters worse, it's served on a sheet of paper so you wind up cutting it up with your calzone and eating some of it. The less than 1" high lasagna looked fairly unappetizing with 2 cold stale bread sticks. According to other yelpers they may make a good pizza, but our meals were so disappointing that we won't be back. So the lesson here is to skip the dine in and get the pizza to go. It's a cool-looking place, and we had World Cup soccer on TV. The place is clean and well maintained. We ordered the calzone and the 9-inch buffalo chicken pizza. Also, we ordered their hazy IPA. So after all eventful volleyball game at the Moody, my handsome guy and I treked over to Home Slice. The parking situation was madness, but we somehow lucked out and snagged a good one. And although, it seemed like it might be crazy inside, we were seated immediately. Maddie was our server and she was incredible. She was helpful, took our order, took our supplemental order, brought us a second side of ranch when a fly decided to nose dive into ours, and checked on us just enough. The salad was spectacular, as usual. There's just never enough. Solution: order two. The garlic knots were a little low on garlic, but tasty nonetheless. Combined with the marinara sauce, just delicious! I got a slice of the white pie with spinach which is olive oil, ricotta, mozzarella, garlic, and spinach. The crust was crunchy in all the right places and the toppings were tasty. I'm hungry just thinking about it again. This Austin staple is always a win for me.

When I pulled up, the parking lot was packed, and while I was able to get a spot that just opened up, lots of people seemed to be walking up from street spots. The hostesses have a fast system and take your phone number, so the line moves pretty quickly. From what I could tell, HSP is a favorite among families, date night goers, college boys, girls night, you name it! I ordered a slice of pizza and garlic knots, admittedly, I wasn't starving. But if I get the chance to come back, I saw other tables get wings, cold subs, and calzones that also looked great! Home Slice Pizza is a neighborhood knockout!
