They have lots of cool stuff just horribly overpriced. I found a icebreaker ski jacket that was in great condition but was more expensive at the store than if I bought it new online. I went into the store and was delighted to see that there were a variety of items that were all in great condition. This is a highly overrated used clothing store and most everything is over priced. If you decide to take something in to have it sold beware. I did and discovered that my expensive items had either been stolen by the staff or shoplifted and the owner didn't make good on the deal. I was out my beautiful Vicuna coat and with nothing to show for it. I advise you get your money upfront or make sure they are libel for your merchandise. read more

I think shopping vintage has changed dramatically - and for the better. There's the thrift store with used 50 cent Gap t-shirts (which of course I'm still loving) and then there's shops like Double Take. If you go in just looking for bargains you're going to leave empty handed and unhappy. But if the personal fashion statement is more important than the price you're in for a treat. I was there last weekend and loved it! Left with several things (a silver cuff, vintage plate, earrings, etc) and a good memory. Next time I'm in Santa Fe Double Take is certainly at the top of my shopping list. read more

This store does have quite a variety of used and new items, but it is at the price of ripping off their community. They give their consigners near to nothing and sell at extremely high prices. They are GREEEEDY! Everyone understands if you are going to consign an item you wont receive top dollar, but Double Take rips their customers off - in a BIG way. I have had to sell items and feel they took advantage. They gave me $3 for a pair of brand shoes. I happened to walk in a couple of days later bc I lost my sunglasses... I saw my shoes for sale for $28! Of course I realize I didnt have to accept their offer, but I was in a bind. My stomach turns everytime I pass the store just thinking of how they treat their customers. I could rate this store lower than one star I would. How does the owner sleep at night? I just can't get enough of Double Take! I am visiting Santa Fe from Australia, and I found the most wonderful treasures here from jewellery, art, western, collectibles, vintage to clothes...it was amazing. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and very patient, taking their time to explain to me the history behind many of the items I was looking at. I bought a vintage suitcase to carry home all of my new purchases from Double Take! I will be back! read more

I was shocked at how this store differed from the other reviews on here. The store is huge and has lots of wonderful items. But everything I saw was used but close to full retail price. I encountered at least 8 employees, two were friendly and six never made eye contact even though we were in close proximity. I had time for one fun stop in Santa Fe. How many times do you find an $800 pair of boots at the Goodwill? Or a $300 cashmere sweater at the Salvation Army?Few and far between. I will gladly pay $150 a pair and have a choice of several dozen. Watch the sales. 20% to 50% on aging stock. If thrift store treasure hunting is your thing...a consignment store is not worth your time. Their clothes are stain free, high quality and up to date. Priced well below retail. read more

A rave review by locals appeared in the April issue of Sunset magazine which lead me to explore Double Take. The rave was all about how Double Take sells such eclectic vintage and used stuff. Wow, this place is GINORMOUS - THREE LEVELS! Furniture, kids clothes and toys, adult clothes, designer/nice vintage, western wear incl cowboy boots, etc. Lots of staff. Prices definitely higher than warranted but if you find a unique piece that you love, you can ask Suzanne to knock down the price if she's in the shop. The prices are NOT Salvation Army/Goodwill levels but neither is the merchandise. There's also more kids stuff in their annex. read more

I've been coming to Double Take for years and I love it. I usually always find what I'm looking for whether it's cheap jeans or vintage items. Speaking of their vintage, that's my favorite part of the store. The selection seems finely curated without a bunch of old junk with the vintage label. I've scored a fantastic cocktail ring and green 1940's satin pumps among other things. I also love their designer section. If you are looking for dirt cheap prices, this isn't the place for you but if you want high quality stuff and a friendly staff, you're at the right spot. read more

This place has a large selection and some beautiful vintage pieces but it is still overpriced. The sales staff, however, is quite friendly.

You can find nice things there. It's gotten better after having gone down hill for a while.

There are a few things that you can get a good bargain on, however a $700 vintage western shirt....I don't get it. I did however get a deal upstairs on a vintage bottle. Just have to scour the store and ask for deals. read more

I love this place. The boots, clothes, and jewelry are super awesome. I could spend a small fortune there. The only problem is the price of the items there. The prices are very high. Everything I wanted was over $100. Again, I loved everything in there and the variety of items each of the rooms have in them, just wish they were more affordable. Not a fan, but I have to admit to shopping there for VINTAGE items on occasion... Yes they have gorgeous things - no denying - but the prices are insane. I have been a vintage-clothing-junkie for many many moons and have NEVER been in a shop priced so exorbitantly outside of Manhattan. I think this business is more geared toward money-ed folks who have second homes in SF than it is to those keeping Santa Fe beautiful year-round... which is fine (it's a business after all). Some folks who work there are nice, a couple are rude - plain and simple.... but whatever. The vibe is very sales-y (?) Staff checks on you and asks to take what's in you hands to the fitting room or the sales counter every couple minutes. Some people probably like that... I find it a little invasive at times. If you go for the vintage, you'll see a lot of pretty things. You might find something you're willing to cough it up for, you might not... If you want to go there, I recommend this: Look around, fall in love with that alligator purse, the silk tap-pants, the celluloid pendant (or whatever) THEN GO HOME and find something just like it on EBAY (use the free online sniper gixen.com)... and get it for a half or a third of the price!! read more

I had a wedding to go to, and found not one, but two classic black dresses, as well as a pair of shoes, along with a dressy camisole, all MINT, and spent $80. Frighteningly overpriced!!!! I've been shopping at second-hand stores for the better part of 20 years, across the country. This is one of the most over-priced "thrift" stores I've ever visited. Ridiculous. Go to San Francisco or LA. Their Goodwill stores are about 1/4 of the cost... with better merchandise. The second-hand stores in SF/LA with designer items are about 1/2 the cost. Don't waste your money on Double Take. Absurd. read more

I live here in Santa fe, and over the years have watched this business grow, into this massive overly priced "2nd hand store". There are a few areas of the store that I really like, and for the last few years I've been going upstairs to where all the little odds and ends are, there is a very cranky older lady that works up there, and will bore you to death with her stories, but if you want a bargain she'll give it to you right away, so it sorta makes sense just to listen to her stories for the deep discount she'll give ya! For the most part, the employees are pretty nice, but they added a feature not to long ago, Ken Moores gallery, he only got his own gallery because he married the owner, but he is one of the rudest people I've met there, and his art is all very much true to navajo indian art, he was inspired by that particular tribe, because they have so much history and culture is what he says, BUT, when I asked are you native american, he claims to be choctaw, which I was a little shocked, cause he is the whitest man and a red neck cowboy on top of that..so I dunno. I did read a comment about how pricey there boots are, This is true, they are way over priced, but some are priced ok, Kowboys a store right down the street has some amazing vintage boots in great condition for about 200 bucks, and there real vintage shirts are right about 40 bucks, so I go there for those things and double take for bedding and such. all in all, Double take really use to be about community, even getting upset if they didn't get their neighborhood discount at other stores and restaurants, even though they don't offer one for us neighbors and now they are truly about making a buck, they've lost some wonderful employees because of the owners eccentric ways. anyways, I gave it a three star, cause some things are worth it, and some aren't, but they probably do have the best jewelry selection in santa fe without the over the top prices. It's neat to visit and see it, but I would only ask Dana(the woman upstairs) or the little boy mark that works up there also for a deep discount, they'll give it to ya! read more

As a long-time visitor to the Southwest and a relatively new resident of Taos, I have enjoyed my visits to Double-Take over the years. About three years ago, we were visiting during an incredibly big cold snap, and I found the greatest, funkiest coat that to this day, I still get compliments on. My favorite thing is to look for BlueFish here. As others have pointed out, the prices on this merchandise are not "low", but they are in ratio to the types and quality of clothing's original prices. And to the person who said something like, "This is Santa Fe, not the middle of Podunk America": Seriously, how inappropriate is that? I always tell my students that when somebody stereotypes them, it is only proof of the person doing the stereotyping's ignorance. I hope other people do not take your sweeping generalization as representation of how most people in the area feel about middle America. read more

Yesterday, visiting from out-of-town, I went to pretty much every single thrift/consignment/vintage store in Santa Fe. This store left me with the most conflicted feelings! It's sort of three or four stores in one. There's a lower-end thrifty-consignment area that feels very comparable to a Buffalo Exchange. Mostly newish clothes at affordable prices with just a handful of so-so vintage items mixed in. I was sort of wondering, "where's all the vintage?" Then I went around the corner and figured out where it went... The middle section is a mix of newer and true-vintage, all with a western theme. There's a huge wall of cowboy boots, tons of leather fringey and Pendleton-type coats, some great vintage tooled-leather purses, and a few racks of 40's/40's/60's circle skirts, squaw dresses and stuff like that. Prices on this stuff were not cheap, but not insane. It's that third section that drove me nuts!!! This is where all the really good 40's/50's/60's vintage is. They have several drool-worthy cases of Bakelite, Celluloid &rhinestone, and 50's enamel-over-copper 40's and 50's jewelry. The prices are ridiculous, though!!! There was a confetti-glitter Lucite clamper bracelet in the case, and I've been wanting one of these for a while, so I asked to see it, and just about fell over dead when I saw the price!!! Are you bleeping kidding me??? Easily TRIPLE the market value for this type of bracelet. I guess their target market is super-rich people who aren't educated about vintage clothing and jewelry, and just fork over stacks of cash when they see something glittery that they like. if you are one of those, hey great! Go have fun! If you are a vintage collector with two brain cells to rub together, stay far away...don't waste your time. read more

Being both a current seller (have things there to be sold) and a buyer, I can't do anything but praise this upscale thrift shop. Yes, their prices may be a bit high, but then consider what you are getting. This is not the usual mishmash of stained, button-missing, zipper-broken clothing that only your never-was-fashionable aunt would find anything attractive kind of store. And don't forget, this IS Santa Fe, not po-dunk middle America. No, here you will find the beautiful '40's black silk, boned hat with mesh that just comes below your eyes or that gorgeous vintage tafetta midnight blue gown with an irridescent glow or that pair of broken in, perfect-fit jeans that a new pair would never feel like. Come on people, stop complaining and just have fun shopping. If you don't like the prices, go to the Goodwill. read more

I visited this store recently while on vacation in Santa Fe. IT'S HUGE! One side has tons of vintage western wear and the other side has a little designer vintage section, which I just love. Everyone who works here is so friendly and helpful. Someone stated below that the boots are overpriced and being a Texan I beg to differ. These are very nice boots and they are not priced too bad compared to the boots at Cavender's and the Fort Worth Stockyards. Plus this isn't a thrift store, so don't expect thrift store prices. With that said, I purchased I shirt that I love and get many compliments on on the designer vintage side. There were so many awesome and unusual little jewelry pieces too. Definitely worth a look! You will find something unique here to take home with you. read more

Actually, I DID find items for $1 during Double Take's clearance/end of season sale. There were racks of clothing outside (children's pieces 3/$1) and the score of a lifetime - a pair of virtually unworn Tod's flats on the $1 shoe table. I realize this may only incite envy or unrealistic expectations of the place but if you're a local, it's worth checking in on every now and then for these spectacular sales. read more
