We travel to Santa Fe once a year to visit family and get us in touch with our roots. This store really speaks to us. It has none of the faux-history vibe that can make some places in Santa Fe feel really forced. It's just good high-quality clothes and accoutrements. Owner and staff engage with customers just the right amount. Cute and cozy with a wide option of throw pillows. Also, multiple patterns and sizes of cloth panels. We picked up bunch of them so we can make a quilt. Good price points and they're open to giving a discount for bulk purchase. They also offer a military discount. read more

This was a new gem we discovered while visiting Santa Fe from Denver, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! Steve, the owner, is so friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. He knows EVERY product thoroughly and can recommend fit and care. He told us all about why a pair of jeans may not be best for my husband, and the pros and cons of everything we were considering. We bought shirts, books, and a fire starter gift for my stepdaughter. The shop is really wonderfully decorated and has high-quality, unique clothes and gifts. Cute little shop with quality clothing for men. Steve was very helpful as I browsed his recently opened shop. Already settled in with regulars he knew by name. Jenas, shirts, jackets, bags and more, I wandered and settled on a sale rack. No all South West, I found a hip shirt with snap buttons. The gang agreed I had to have it. Others picked through the cool, retro t-shirts and we all went home with something. A good outing had by all. Wow great store for men! The wiener is so wonderful. Not pushy but helpful. Products are very high quality but fairly priced. Found a great blanket jacket and a men's cardigan fir my husband. This store is now back open with limited capacity. I was looking for a couple new short sleeve button down shirts, and it took me all of 5 minutes (at most) to find a couple great ones. The shop isn't huge but it's packed with quality merchandise. Steve was great to meet and knows everything about every product in the store. It's always great to learn a bit about new clothing companies I haven't tried before, and he is a wealth of knowledge. The atmosphere feels more like buying a shirt from a trusted friend - it's not your typical retail experience these days! I will definitely be back. read more

I visited Santa Fe before the pandemic and discovering Red River Mercantile was my favorite part of the trip. Steve, the owner, is such a warm and helpful person, honestly I walked in on a whim and left with two beautiful jackets, a versatile briefcase/backpack (that I use all the time), and a new favorite shop in Santa Fe. Steve's taste is impeccable, he knows each and every product he carries and can tell you everything you want to know about the designer and manufacturers, even the one's he doesn't carry! He takes such care in organizing his shop and choosing the best products. I wasn't able to fit the jackets I purchased into my suitcase and Steve offered to ship them to me at cost. Traveling across country, I found myself not quite prepared for the weather in Santa Fe. I needed something heavier for walking about town. The selection here is dense in quality. Clearly the proprietor makes the most of his space by finding items that are equally high value in fashion as well as function. I've been dealing with Steve at Red River Mercantile for several years and although it is not a large store, everything is of very good quality and I find stores like this for men are few and far between. He actually carries interesting clothes and accessories you won't find at regular men's departments in big stores. And Red River has a real leg up due to Steve's past in the mercantile business, so when I look at a particular brand of shirt or whatever, Steve may say "Dave, a shirt of that particular brand you wouldn't wear your regular size, you'll want"... and if you want, he then will explain about fabrics and cuts and shrinkage or other idiosyncracies of certain vendors, because he knows these things. Thoroughly. And we are talking quality merchandise, like Filson, one of my favorites. He has saved me from buying the wrong size or product more than once. He knows his products and he quickly learns about his customers' desires. You will never go wrong dealing with Red River Mercantile. And Steve is just someone you'll enjoy doing business with. If you are a tourist, go to Red River Merc while you have the opportunity. If you are a local, go to Red River and meet Steve and I guarantee you'll go back again and again. read more

My partner had been looking for nice but comfortable shirts for awhile. We went to several other stores in Santa Fe, and couldn't find anything that fit the bill. Just when we had given up on our mission, we found Red River Mercantile. What a great find it turned out to be! Steve was friendly and knew every product he carried in his store incredibly well. He gave us just the right amount of detail on fit and care. We ended up purchasing several high quality shirts from great brands like Pendleton, Desert Son, and Outerknown. For the first time maybe ever, my partner walked out of a clothing shop confident and ready to dress up for dinner! In addition to the clothing, we came home with a beautiful charcoal painting from Steve's wife, and a very cool hand stamped leather belt. The store is awesome, carrying clothes from brands such as Filson, Levi's, Pendleton and other staple brands known for their timeless style and quality. There's a very good reason Steve and his store have such consistently good reviews online, he is absolutely devoted to customer service/satisfaction while Also having a great eye for curating the cream from the whey with what he stocks/sells. My wife found this shop online a few weeks before a short vacation as I'd been given a Christmas gift of a Filson coat (something I'd been thinking about for most of the previous year). Living in the boonies, our trip to Santa Fe was going to be the first time I'd happen across a Filson dealer, so I gave him a call and Steve asked a lot of very detailed questions to do the best job possible on making sure that the fit would be right, and then offered to special order the specific piece I wanted (I'm 6'4" and really need Tall shirts/jackets) on his dime with zero obligation to buy or compensate for shipping. Then he set about tracking down the jacket as it was listed as out of stock. Communication was Excellent as first Steve went on vacation and then I was gearing up to be on vacation, phone calls to confirm that he'd found the piece and then again that it had arrived and was ready. Walking into the store yielded the coat hanging mostly front and center. This is Easily the kind of shopping experience I wish I could find more often. Heck, I'd settle for just finding a shop where the owner showed one tenth the enthusiasm for both the product and the customer. I'm not sure how often I'll make it back to Santa Fe, but Red River Mercantile will be on the list of must-visit places each time. read more

What a fantastic little mens shop in Santa Fe, NM! Steve the owner is an incredibly gracious, helpful, energetic and friendly guy. The store has a small but very well edited collection of mid-priced mens goods. Great clothes, bags and accessories, as well as some cool books and grooming products. Steve is really knowledgable about each line he carries and I loved hearing the story about each item in the store. Prices are not h&m low, but the fabrics, fit and uniqueness of each piece is well worth it. This is stuff mostly made in the USA and not something you'll find elsewhere. You'd think I could find a great shop like Steve's in Silverlake, CA but even if I could, I honestly I don't think I could find one better. Great care has gone into what Red River Mercantile stocks, from great heritage brands to the not so heritage contemporary brands that are making the effort to grow their brand into better thought out designs and higher quality materials. I loved that whatever I was drawn to was Made in The USA and that Steven knew all his stock intimately. I also loved that the store wasn't trying to cater to just the young trendy hipster guy type or even the snobby older guy type, but a not so old mature guy that knows what they like, no hard sell here, just a bit of wisdom and shared experience of what quality classic clothing can be.
