Love this place. Yesterday I found a beautiful 30" strand of heavy Navajo coin pearls. I really love them but I wasn't sure about the price. I wanted to shop around to see if I could find something comparable at a lower price. They were kind enough to hold it for me. I went to Shalanko Traders, one of my other go-to places in Santa Fe for beautiful old silver and turquoise jewelry. I pawed through three big baskets of sterling silver beads and learned that the price I was offered at Double Take was exceptionally good. I went back and purchased it - and I am so happy I did. It is an heirloom piece! BTW: The young lady helping me was extremely lovely. This store is a scam. At first blush it looks like a western enthusiasts paradise. The prices are ABSRUDLY INFLATED. I spent my time in the western section, "The Ranch" and in the upstairs furniture section. The prices are just obscene compared to new items by the same brand, other vintage stores in the area carrying similar items, and online. A simple sterling buckled western belt from a quality brand should not and does not cost $300+ if it is a common item from 25 years ago. A low quality copper saute pan does not cost $200. It is not mauviel or some other established brand. It was a thin bottomed, low quality pan. 6 low quality plastic, fake antler steak knives with low quality blades are not $36! An old no-name cracked factory made womens belt with no buckle is not $36 either! The bolos, belts, western shirts, turquoise accessories, kitchenware, etc. are outrageously inflated. My daughter and I drove 90 minutes from Taos to shop at Double take. When we arrived, we learned there is no public rest room, and when we inquired, we were told to walk 2 blocks (in the Santa Fe sun) to the Design Center. At the Design Center we located the restrooms, but they were locked with a keyed entry. We were able to find an employee who gave us the code. The restroom was dirty but usable. (Santa Fe has been criticized in the press for it's lack of rest rooms for visitors) A store the size of Double Take should have a restroom for it's shoppers. Back @ Double Take we were unimpressed with the clothing selection so we climbed a flight of stairs (there is no elevator) to visit the art and antique area. In that section of the store we encountered an overly friendly employee who kept babbling at us and asking questions. It's hard to shop when someone is hovering over you. There really aren't too many antiques up there. Some of the stuff is vintage, and although not high-end, is high priced. More interesting pieces can be found at Stephen's,The Raven, Look What the Cat Dragged In and Barkin' Attic where the help acknowledge you, then let you shop. They also have rest rooms and better parking. Parking At Double take is very limited. Although I will probably return (if I can find a parking space!) because it no doubt has frequent turn over of merchandise, and it's possible to find a gem, I would only mention Double Take to friends with the warning...NO RESTROOM and LOUSY PARKING. We were staying nearby and decided to walk down and just look inside. This is one of the best consignment shops I've ever been in. The selection is great with a variety of brands including several nicer, higher end ones. I had looked at some clothing in shops by the Plaza, but I found the same brands here at a lower price and in excellent condition. The store is well organized and easy to navigate. There are changing rooms as well. I wish I had had more time. The staff was extremely nice and helpful too. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Santa Fe. read more

My favorite pastime is thrifting and I REALLY feel cheated when I go into a thrift store and sweaters are $50 and freaking boots are 150! What the hell are you thinking Santa Fe? Just because Oprah and Sting have homes in the area doesn't mean you can overcharge, especially in thrift stores! I've been frequenting this store for the past 23 years. First of all, let's be clear - it is NOT a 'thrift store'. Thrift stores contain tons of junk that you would never want, and you have to spend a lot of time sifting through everything in hopes of finding something of interest. At Double Take, they spend countless hours going through the tons of stuff that people bring by, and are very particular about what they choose to take and sell. Susan and her staff go to great lengths to create a lovely atmosphere, and a store that is filled with beautiful and desirable merchandise. My children grew up wearing virtually all Double Take threads, and when I feel like a little something new without paying a fortune, I'll always go there first. read more

Fabulous selection of jewelry. I discovered here that i really do prefer the vintage style indian and silver & turquoise jewelry,,, man do they have a great selection! There is a huge back room where some of the newer less precious finds are. The more rare and expensive stuff is in the front room in the cases. I have been here two years in a row with having great lick of finding something interesting for my silver collection. Wow. I almost didn't go here because other reviewers said the prices are "high". Are you kidding? This isn't a thrift store so you won't find items for $1. It's a consignment store that focuses on high quality items without damage. They have ski boots and pants in mint condition. I found a Banana Republic dress with the tags still on it for $15. I walked away with 5 dresses (two wedding worthy) for $73. Please tell me where the rest of you are shopping because that (to me) is a great deal! Oh I love Double Take! I always find a treat for myself when I'm in there! Last time I found an exceptional pair of vintage Bruno Magli silver leather sandals to wear for a wedding- so pretty. I love their color-coded label sales, something you like is always on discount. The ladies behind the register pretty much keep to themselves so you're free to just poke around and find a little something sparkling with sequins... What I liked: The insanely well curated selection of vintage western and Mexican folk wear, including tons of boots, hats, and sterling + turqoise jewelry. There's an impressive amount of bakelite jewelry as well. Everything is nicely merchandised and unlike many stores that sell used/vintage goods, it doesn't smell bad here. This leads me to believe items are laundered or dry cleaned before hitting the racks. The contemporary upscale/designer section is tasteful, with items in pristine condition. The gentleman I spoke with was very friendly and helpful, as was the female employee who was also working the day I came in. What I didn't like: I'm deducting 1 star from my rating because the prices on several of the vintage items are well beyond their current market value. As a vintage dealer of 17 years myself I respect that some things are very hard to find these days, cost more to acquire, and deserve premium prices. Double Take is a very cool store. It has a little of everything, from home decor, to clothes, to art, much jewelry, and boots. BOOTS!!! Holy cupcake Batman this is the place for boots. I got a great pair of Donald J Pliner boot/mules, that made my mouth water. And, I got them for an amazing price, versus the $300+ price tag that would be normal. I wouldn't say that every price is amazing, there seem to be a few overpriced things, but man oh man can you wander for hours. Santa Fe Thrift is a very different beast than your typical thrift store. The quality level can sometimes blow your mind. Plus, if you just like browsing thrift stores and you are in Santa Fe on holiday, I'd say, you would have a great time taking a mosey through Double Take. read more

Vintage goodness! After scowering several boot boutiques, i quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to afford the hand made $1000, so I sought out another option. Double Take is a vintage cowgirl and boy's heaven. Used cowboy boots line the back walls. WIth racks of apparel and accessories throughout the store. After super friendly assistance and a little cowboy boot fitting 101, I started the selection process. Leather, lizard, snake, tall, short, you take your pick. The perfectly worn red and camel snakeskin and leather pair were the big winners. I'd love to go back and pick up that long leather coat or maybe the fun faux-fur number that tried to reel me back in on my way to lunch. read more

Double Take is great! My favorite concept about double take is that they weed out all of the shabby used clothing for you, meaning there is more cool, gently used, like new clothing ready for you on the rack. All of this in expensive downtown Santa Fe! I found three really nice used, brand name dress shirts for less than one new shirt at Dillards. I Also found a high quality suit for a fraction of what I would pay anywhere else. Not only that, but I had "Nimah" give his fashion advice to help me through making my purchases. At one point, both Nimah and my wife were picking out ties to go with my suit. For a man who should put more effort into his wardrobe, I sure felt in capable hands to have two sets of eyes helping me with my wardrobe decisions. Everyone was extremely nice, professional and seemed to have a good sense of fashion. What a service Double Take provides Santa Feans. Thank you! After reading other's negative reviews: True, Double Take may be a little more expensive than Goodwill or the Salvation Army second hand stores, but I think the quality of clothing you're going to find at Double Take is overall better. Not to say that you're not going to make some good finds at either of the other used hand stores, just that you're going to have to search a lot harder. read more

This is the best consignment store on the Planet. I shop here every time I'm in Santa Fe. I found some killer Larry Mahan inlaid boots here. There is a higher end boutique on the Southside of this huge store. The salespeople are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I've scored great designer deals in this boutique. I bought a beautiful vintage Gucci silk scarf, vintage Chanel earrings, turquoise kidskin gloves, and an Hermes card case. There is much interesting jewelry in the display cases.
