So I can't believe I haven't reviewed double knot and I've been patronizing for YEARS!!! Keep in mind though that this review is specific to happy hours as it never had a full dine in experience! I love their happy hour menu and specials, the drinks are perfect, the service is fast, and the place is great to catch up with friends and have a great time.

I am a lover of restaurants that offer "many tastes" so mezze, tapas, ban chan, dim sum, etc, etc, are my kinda resties. Double Knot not only fills that request but ices the cake with a venue that makes you feel like you're in a movie (Thanks Schulson Collective and whatever design team you have on board!) I've eaten upstairs in the bar area, but for the best experience, I highly recommend getting a table downstairs. Walking down the dark, candlelit stairway feels like you're entering somewhere a little hidden and off-limits, and at the bottom you're met with a lively dining room that's sexy, intimate, and a total vibe. The menu is expansive, not quite Cheesecake Factory level, but close (in the best way!!) You can order a la carte from sections like cold dishes, small plates, crispy, meat, fish, rolls/handrolls, sushi/sashimi, robatayaki (my favoriteee!!), and sides, or go for the $69 tasting menu. That includes 10 dishes, with 2 robatayaki selections and seasonal soft serve. For an extra $10, you can upgrade your meat selection (wagyu bavette, not grilled) and specialty sashimi. This round we opted for the $79 tasting menu (we were birthday-ing it up). Here's the rundown: Cold- Hamachi Ceviche: This was one of my faves of the night. Cubes of hamachi perfectly "cooked" with bright grapefruit, entangled in crunchy cucumber noodles and topped with crispy rice pearls. Small- Edamame Dumplings: Give me 10 of these!!! Favorite of the night, these perfectly poached pillows were filled with sweet peas and floating in a truffle kissed broth that was savory and addictive. Order this! Crispy - Japanese Fried Chicken: Addictive nuggets of perfectly fried chicken thighs that needed nothing more than a squeeze of lemon or drag through the creamy miso sauce. Meat- Wagyu Bavette: Despite this being "wagyu" it tasted like a regular old hanger steak. While good, the extra $10 we paid for this upgrade was disappointing though the sweet potato schmear underneath of it was quite good. Fish- Japanese Scallop: This was another favorite of the night. Percfectly seared scallops came in a flavorful citrus segment/ponzu sauce. Sides- Soy Udon Mazmen: A tangle of udon noodles topped with a chunky sauce of garlic and what tasted like chopped shrimp. This reminded me of the classic dish "Shrimp with lobster sauce" just with noodles. It was eh. Very mild flavor and wouldn't order again. Robotayaki: We opted for the Ribeye Scallion and Enoki Mushroom (enoki wrapped in fatty bacon). I've had both before and while the ribeye was good (steak is hard to mess up when cooked correctly) I would reccomend the short rib as it's much more succulent. The Enoki Mushroom though. GIVE ME 20!!! These are one of my fave things on their menu. Rolls/Handroll: We went with the Double Knot which was good, fresh and fatty. Everything you want Big Eye tuna to be but nothing write home about. Specialty Sashimi: Opted for the Toro which comes with triangles of the freshest toro your chopsticks will grab. Good and fatty but sashimi isn't my favorite so I'm a bit biased. Dessert- Miso Softserve: A small little dollop, about 3 spoons worth, is all you need to finish a big meal but no hint of miso. Just really good vanilla soft serve. All in all another fantastic meal at Double Knot, though, I feel I will likely stick with the a la carte option since I like being able to order multiples from specific categories, especially the dishes I find addictive (Edamame dumplings and Enoki Mushroom Robotayaki). Whether you go here for their happy hour (great drinks and great prices), a light meal or all out feast with the tasting menu, you are bound to have a great experience.

This place was amazing! I came here for happy hour with a friend and most options were $8 or less, and were totally worth it. We tried out several different options plus a specialty cocktail, which was yummy. The tuna sushi was very fresh and soft, the edamame dumplings were unique and flavorful, the shrimp tacos were sooo yummy, and the kimchi fried rice came in a very decent portion size! If I had more room in my stomach, I'd order more. Our waitress was super friendly and very attentive and our food came out in pretty good timing! One thing to point out is that since happy hour is first come first serve, we were seated by the door and the seats were super uncomfortable and very low lol. Other than that, I have no complaints about double knot! Overall, I highly recommend and hope to come back for a dinner here!

If you're a tapas lover and love to try new things, Double Knot is the perfect place to try in center city! Not only is the place beautiful, but I swear that every single thing I ordered was a 10/10 They have a huge menu with tons of options, making it perfect for sharing with friends or perfect to be able to try multiple things and not have to deal with huge portions! If you go, make sure you get the chicken skewers

Pros: Beautiful atmosphere and ambience. Waiter was extremely professional and knowledgeable with recommendations, service was great. Food was DELICIOUS. They took a while between one of our courses on the tasting menu which did mess with the flow of things but they made up for it by providing us with a delicious and hefty serving of fried rice and an extra course where they gave us a California roll. Cons: We had reservations and still had to wait another 20 minutes. Downstairs was a bit TOO dark as I could barely see my food at times. Would certainly come back again. The tasting menu was great, very filling, and worth upgrading for the premium selection for an extra $10 (a steal!). A wonderful time overall.

I stopped by Double Knot in Philly during happy hour while in town for a work conference. The place was packed with no tables available, so we ended up at two bar stools after asking a young lady to shift over. The bar area is very cramped, my neighbor and I kept rubbing elbows. The lighting is extremely dark. Even with Lasik, I struggled, and my girlfriend had to use her phone to read the menu. They have tiny flame shaped lights, but they barely help. Service at the bar was busy, so it took a few minutes to order. Once we did, the food came out surprisingly fast, so fast I was a bit skeptical. We ordered a few sushi rolls, kimchi fried rice, and karaage chicken. The sushi rolls were basic, nothing special. The karaage chicken was disappointing, coming out room temperature with a bland sauce. The kimchi fried rice was a bit overpriced, but actually pretty good. Drinks were inconsistent. Mine was strong, but my girlfriends was weak. By the time we left, there was a line out the door. Overall, I would avoid this place, especially during happy hour. The food seems prepared in advance for the crowd, which leaves it sitting and lukewarm. Combined with the cramped, loud environment and inconsistent drinks, its not worth the hype.

Have been here twice for happy hour now! Love the ambiance and it's always so busy, but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The menu has gotten longer since the first time I went with great selection, although the prices are a bit above what I would consider for a typical happy hour. Bites were very yummy and drinks are strong

The food is delicious! I typically go for happy hour but glad that I came in later for their chef tasting menu. The flavors I missed out on from that menu came to life in my mouth. The one dish that stood out the most was the tofu--so crispy on the outside! The mushroom dumplings are another great menu item. The service was on point each and every time. Food comes flying out of that kitchen. My hat off to the chefs. It's a beautiful, dimly lit space--which I LOVE! All of these years, I thought the space was small. When they took us downstairs to the fancy, speakeasy space where they had kitchen seating, I was amazed.

This place is incredible from the food, to the service, the vibe. Perfect for a nice night out with friends or a romantic date night. The space is dark and moody with lots of cool decor and candles everywhere. The food is all severed on small plates and delivered to the table as it's ready. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have plenty of vegetarian options and loved that they had some fun mocktails.

Edamame Dumpling
Amber K.

Happy hour here is great. Each sushi roll is 8 dollars and the edemame dumplings were absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp tempura which was great but just missing the signature eel sauce and then the salmon avocado was good because the fish was fresh. I go the rose knot as my drink. The sweetness of the calpico and all the flavors worked so nicely together. Happy hour is first come first serve but we were sat immediately at 6 pm and had enough time to get our drinks and food. I will say I wasn't a huge fan of the seating because we were at a low table with a couch but otherwise it was a great time.

Tasting

Everything was so great and just melted in my mouth! New flavors and great portion sizes. NEED to go back.

Double Knot might as well be my favorite restaurant. They have one of the most affordable tasting menus I have seen ($69 pp) and you leave feeling stuffed. For $69 you get one cold dish, one small dish, one crispy dish, one meat dish, one fish dish, one side, 2 robatayaki skewers, one sushi roll, and one sashimi dish. Each dish seems to be a full portion, and I have never been disappointed by how delicious each dish is. My favorites are the Edamame Dumplings (they taste like truffle and sit in this delicious wine broth), Double Know Big Eyed Tuna and the Short Rib Robatayaki. Each table also has this incredible smoky mustard on it which goes great with the Robotayaki. The ambiance of Double Knot is also really special. You can sit upstairs for a more chill vibe, or you can sit downstairs for a more romantic vibe. I love sitting downstairs for special occasions, like birthdays or anniversaries. You need a reservation to sit downstairs. Most of the time you need a reservation for upstairs, but we have been able to walk in a few times and get bar seating for happy hour. Happy hour is very reasonably priced and has some of my favorites on the menu as well. This is a must visit for anyone taking a trip to Philly!

We went to double knot for restaurant week and it was delicious!!! The block cod fried rice, edamame dumplings and shrimp tacos were my favorites, could eat those all the time! Not pictured is the Udon that we didn't care for, they were a little bland and not worth it compared to how great the other dishes were. Also not pictured was the one item that was truly inedible, the mochi dessert. I absolutely love mochi and this was so crumbly and did not taste good at all. However by then I was already so happy with my meal that I really didn't care. If we had dined à la carte and we ordered it for dessert I would have been more disappointed. They were definitely very busy and we didn't get seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time even though we checked in 10 min early. But overall great experience and would definitely go back, maybe just not order dessert

Double Knot Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Double Knot

When reserving on resy what is the "down bar seat" option? vs the "sushi counter" or "bar cocktail" options? Thank you!

Is Double Knot ever going to serve Banh mi again? I really miss it.

Where is the best place to sit for a intimate date night (sushi counter, down bar, downstairs bar area, downstairs dining room)?

Dining area is the safest bet!

What is the difference in the seating - down bar vs downstairs bar area?

There is a small bar downstairs, which you can sit at. Additionally there are small table (with bench seating) that are just next to the bar area which you can be sat. Just note - the bar area tables are small for two, so be ready to be cozy with… Read more

Is it ok to take kid?

It's more a romantic date night vibe here. Dimmed lights, kind of noisy. I wouldn't recommend it. It's not best to take a kid, but you can.

What time does the kitchen stop serving food on weekends?

Do they have vegetarian options?

Vegetarian: yes, vegan: idk. One of the most accommodating kitchens I've found in the city; I'm allergic to anything that lives in the water

When is happy hour and is it available only in certain seating areas?

As of March 2021, they no longer offer a Happy Hour menu. The restaurant also opens at 5PM for dinner service.

Gluten free rolls?

Yes there are gluten free rolls and they also have tamari which is a GF soy sauce option.

Is this a good spot for Ann anniversary dinner?

Yes, definitely. The downstairs seating area is perfect.

If a party of 2 wanted to order the Chef's Tasting Menu, can we choose the plates? Or does the chef have to choose? (for the same price I mean)

From my experience, you can (a) let the chef choose, (b) choose some and let the chef choose the rest, or (c) choose all.

When booking on open table it shows "additional seating options" what does that mean?

Besides the regular table option there is also the sushi bar option. Sometimes the sushi bar is the only option.

Does everyone at the table have to do the tasting menu or can it be on an individual basis?

Hi Dylan! When ordering the tasting menu, your portions will be served depending on the size of your party. Therefore, when ordering the tasting menu it is for the whole table/party. I hope this answers your question.

Is Happy Hour throughout the restaurant or at the bar only?

The whole upstairs has happy hour which is the bar and also maybe 6ish lounge type tables. As far as I know, the downstairs where the restaurant is, does not have HH.

Is the lunch menu same as dinner menu? Also, is there Omakase for lunch?

Lunch menu is very different, but also very good. Take a chance!

What days and what time the happy hour?

All days 4 to 7

Unfortunately, there was no way for the staff to combine our reservations and let us all play together. You book a group of races that are played back to back. You cannot select what team you drive for, nor can you select the track, which we did not like. You have to play each race immediately and consecutively, and we wished there was an option to take it slower and scan a card or something to prompt the next race at our own pace, like an arcade. On the last race, our screens continued to play the guidelines and looped for about 8 minutes while our friends raced next to us before we asked for help. They had to reset it and we ended up having to race a course we already did previously because there was no way for them to select the last one for us. Overall this was a disappointing experience due to the lack of technical accommodations the staff could make. It was cool-looking but outside of that was not worth the money to me.
