Came here for a late night dinner after a long trip to a conference nearby. Tried the crunchy salmon bite which I thought was really creative and a nice balance of texture and taste. I do think it would be nice to have a kick from some ginger or wasabi maybe but a little soy sauce complemented it nicely! Definitely would recommend for someone trying this place out! The tonkotsu ramen was very filling and the chashu was nicely charred. Toppings were great also and broth wasn't too salty but still had a good amount of flavor. Service was quick overall and they were great at refilling my water. Ambiance was nice overall! Entrance was a little hard to find at first but the decor inside was nice. Kirin House's sushi offerings were okay. I ordered the Pacific Ocean Roll and my sister had the AK-47 -- LOL at the name. The Pacific Ocean Roll included spicy tuna, avocados, and cucumbers. Very basic. I normally like simple rolls, but this roll lacked flavor. I don't think I'd get it again. The AK-47 had shrimp tempura, avocados, spicy tuna and jalapeños. This roll was tasty! The jalapeños added a nice bite and the crunch from the shrimp tempura balanced the soft spicy tuna texture. I would get this if I ever visited Kirin House again. We also tried the sashimi and the seafood miso soup. The sashimi (chef's choice) came with salmon, bluefin tuna and white tuna. Standard. Lastly, the seafood miso soup was mediocre. The broth was filled with shrimp, kani, and fish. The smell of the fish was a bit overwhelming, but the soup wasn't bad. All-in-all, Kirin House will serve its purpose if you're simply looking for a quick sushi bite. No frills, nothing fancy, just sushi... try for yourself. Cheers! read more

First time here after the old place closed down. Heard from a friend that this place was really good so I had to check it out. The prices were really good for the quality of the sushi. The drinks were also fairly priced at 11/cocktail and 6/beer. Salmon Platter: (4/5), don't know if this was an off day but the salmon was just okay, nothing crazy Miso soup: (3/5), wasn't the best Spicy tuna: (5/5) I loved these the most, would definitely come back for this roll Shrimp tempura: (5/5) The rolls were huge and i like how they had two pieces of shrimp in each roll. If you're staying anywhere near the convention center (we were at Hampton Inn), this is really nearby. No wait on a Sunday night even with minimal staff. Great service and even better food! Seriously, as other reviewers have said, the quality and taste are way better than I'd expect at this very affordable price point. The menu is really big with plenty of options for everyone. They also have a really extensive cocktail menu that I'd like to come back and explore. But even the house sake (I tried the cold) was really amazing and refreshing! We tried the Black Pearl and White Lady Rolls (great pairing btw) along with some Yellowtail sushi. Not only were the rolls delicious and petfectly balanced with fresh tasting sushi, but the presentation was beautiful (see photos). The atmosphere was very modern with really interesting decoration and great upbeat music. The music was noticeable but not too loud. Starting off, the interior is wonderful and it feels really cozy. It looks like a nice tavern you would imagine when reading books and/or watching TV. You also don't have to worry about being cold because their heater is turned on really high. Staff is very nice and the music choices are amazing so you can enjoy your food to the max. The lighting is just right(not too bright and not too dim) so no need to worry about straining your eye. Their food is definitely a must try! It's so unique you really can't find another place like this in Philly. Their sushi is truly on another level and everything looks soooo delicious! Don't even get me started on the sashimi because I truly have no words to express how lovely they taste. The quality of their food is quite literally on par with omakases with how fresh and appetizing they are. Even their ginger tastes delicious.
