Would have liked to have tried it. Unfortunately, while we were picking our selections from the…read moremenu, our fussy 3-year-old is crying and extremely hungry and couldn't wait. I had a tiny bowl of white rice for him in the car. Went and got it and while we stood (in the doorway, not even seated yet) simply perusing the menu (for all anyone knew, we were browsing to order takeout), tattooed fella (owner, maybe. Manager?) rushes over probably not even a minute after I got back and tells us no outside food due to Health Department regulations (not true, I've worked in the industry before and we've not had issues with this anywhere else). He offered no solutions or anything, just basically rushed over like Barney Fife for the modern generation and made us feel super put off. Even if that somehow was the case that he would be in some kind of violation, was not allowing a toddler-sized serving of Jasmine rice worth losing a customer over forever? Hopefully it was. I managed a restaurant and when I would see this situation (and I would, from time to time with infants and toddlers), I'd look the other way and let my guests enjoy themselves. It never, ever burned me allowing some apple slices or boiled rice at my tables. And trust me, I did it regularly. Hopefully, this review will give folks a more accurate picture of this establishment's clear absence of understanding, hospitality and compassion toward guests with families and children. We could've ordered to-go but I decided I'd rather not show them any support. Unfortunate and not a very welcoming family atmosphere for this small town, especially considering we're talking about feeding a toddler here. If it was a defiant teen trying to smuggle in some Wendy's, I'd get it. But really, dude? A hungry, fussy 3-year-old with some rice. Won't try again. Terrible first impression and it'll be the only impression. Careful if you try to bring little ones who might need a snack while you wait! Recommend Hef's directly next door. More family friendly and hospitable and great food. For pizza, take a short drive down the road to Pizza Hut or Babe's (Spruce Pine and Burnsville). Ambered Jack of Yancey (short drive down 19) also does a fantastic job of pizza with a smile. Titan Pizza of Marion is wonderful and great folks. All worth checking out before this one! I'm a local. I'll now drive past this every time and would just as soon trek to Burnsville or Marion before I go back through these doors. Edit: was fairly certain the male in question had tattoos. But maybe not. At any rate, it was a male at the front of house. Ask your staff. The guy in question will certainly remember the toddler with a small container of rice and the customers he lost when they walked out on a Sunday.

Within a few minutes of being seated the owner came over to chat with us. Not only did he make us feel welcomed but this location allowed us to sit in the outdoor seating with our dog. We ordered the Caprese pizza, drinks, and their salty pretzel as an appetizer. The pizza was beyond amazing!! I'm somewhat of a pizza snob so I didn't expect much when we placed our order. I highly recommend the food at this location, live music, and phenomenal service!!

One team, one mission. Elizabeth Gibbs, Steve Scott, and John Jones of Small Potatoes Mobile…read moreKitchen create quality cuisine while excelling in their efforts of sustainability. Their goal of having the greenest food truck in North Carolina is accomplished through several means. The most important of which is readily apparent in every aspect of their food, the use of local ingredients. Rocking F Farm's pork, Wesley Mills' sweet potatoes, and Woody's collards were a few of the NC farm fixings that Small Potatoes used in their lunch menu the day we visited. That afternoon was cold and blustery. It was the type of wind that made you look around expecting Mary Poppins to glide in with her umbrella. Along with Jerry and me, a host of hearty Small Potatoes food truck fans gathered on Linden Street in Winston Salem for a bowl of warm, filling soup. I had the Split Pea Soup. Intensely smoky ham complemented a rainbow of vegetables - carrot, skin on potato, celery, and red bell pepper. This bowl of comfort food was lightly seasoned so that the garden vegetables were the diva of the act. Jerry's Sesame Noodles with Pork had a mild broth, julienned pork, vibrant greens, rice noodles and a subtle pepper seasoning. Take a close look at your soup bowl next visit. The compostable paper bowls are lined with NatureWorks Ingeo, which is derived from plants grown in the USA. There's no plastic or wax lining. You'll love this news. Soup enthusiasts can enjoy a different Small Potatoes homemade soup every week with a Soupscription. The Omnivore option includes soups like Gumbo with Shrimp and Andouille, Cock-a-Leekie, and Smoked Bacon & Bean while the Vegan Soupscription has Curried Winter Squash, Roasted Tomato Fennel, and Tuscan Kale & White Bean. Picks up spots include the Greensboro Children's Museum, Krankie's Airstream in Winston, and the UNC campus Chapel Hill. My Moroccan Style Chicken Hand Pie had a golden thin crust that didn't overwhelm the spiced filling. Chock-full of chicken, dotted with red bell pepper, and bursting with flavor, I am adding this to my favorites list. The menu changes to use seasonally available ingredients, so be sure to try this pie whenever it's an option. Jerry had the Kasha, Mushroom, Greens & Cheese Hand Pie. The cheese really came through in this savory pie (I am guessing it might be from the Goat Lady Dairy). The flaky crust and meaty texture of the mushrooms unify with the greens and kasha. We shared the Apple Pie. Sliced apples with a hint of cinnamon in their natural sweetness made a rustic dessert on-the-go. The Gourmet Grilled Cheese had three cheeses oozing over the edges of buttery, crunchy grilled bread. I'll be keeping a close eye on their Facebook posts to see when they have a Roasted Tomato soup this summer. I can only image how delicious that combination will be! Jerry had the Braised Pork Sandwich. Tomato, onion and carrot were braised with the lean pork. The tender, shredded pork was mounded high on a toasted Brioche bun. All sandwiches were served with Tortilla Chips. On Saturday's, Small Potatoes Mobile Kitchen is at Krankie's Airstream Coffee Park in Winston Salem from 12-3 pm. They always have a vegan option, a vegetarian option, something gluten-free and soups. Make a difference. Eat local and dine with Small Potatoes, an environmentally Green food truck that supports local farmers.
