OK. As expected for a burger stand in a small town. Menu was large. Onion rings good for pre-frozen stuff.

I was born and raised in Siskiyou County. My Grandmother used to take me to Dotty's as a little girl. I just LOVED their ice cream (course, what kid doesn't)? I took my daughter there today and was a bit disappointed in the quality of food as well as the customer service. In their defense, it was lunch time and pretty busy. I stood in line for about 5 minutes. When I got to the window, the young lady closed the window and didn't even say "I'll be right with you." I stood for about 3 minutes before she took my order. I agree with the previous comment from Sarah C. "It's just not quite the same as it used to be." I ordered a regular nachos for myself and a corn dog and milkshake for my daughter. When I openend the bag, my nachos were dumped upside down with the cheese in a big heap on the bottom of the bag. I managed to scrape the cheese from the bag and make the best of a messy situation. My cheese was luke warm, which tells me it had been sitting for a bit. I would have complained right then and there but there was already a line of about 10 customers and my 3 year old daughter was with me. Just a suggestion: nachos should be placed in a styrofoam container to avoid a situation like I had. Having made this review, I do wish the best for the new owners. read more

Well, as I'm not from Etna, and am only just now in the process of moving up here, I can't say anything in comparison to the way it used to be. I can tell you however, what it's like now. Given the type of food that it is(burgers, fries, shakes, etc...) I don't see anything wrong with the decor on the inside. (It is a little not-so-stand-out-ish from the outside, looks a bit like something that may have closed up when it doesn't have customers parked outside, except it does have a nice logo) I grew up with a local place just like this(funny enough, I was thinking just before trying this place, how much I missed its large choices of shakes!), and it had no personality whatsoever. This place at least has a few 49'ers things and stuff on the wall to look at. With that said, I didn't go there to look at the dining room, I went there to eat(I can however, appreciate a good ambiance, I used to own a quick service restaurant that was all dec'ed out in a barn theme, even had barn wood covering the walls, floor to ceiling, and it was VERY popular!). Ok, back to the reason of 5 stars. First, we were greeted by the nicest woman ever(I think here name was Annie or Anne?)! I'm not sure if she's the owner, or just every employers' dream, but she was awesome! My husband and I decided to split the Brown Bear Burger and the BLT along with a small order of curly fries. I just have to say, we've tried many a burger in our time, and we even thought we'd found the best ever, however this is truly the BEST, hands down(we both confirmed this as we had our first bite and just let out an "oh my god" Meg Ryan-Harry Met Sally style! Just kidding...kind of) The bacon, the brown sugar, the everything, my goodness, you have to try it(I'm drooling just writing about it). Even the BLT was the best one we've ever had! I didn't try a shake this time(couldn't justify curly fries and a shake, but once I heard they had curly fries...I couldn't pass up curly fries, I just couldn't), however, but we'll be back! Great milkshakes and chocolate dipped soft serve cones. My Daughter wears her Dotty's t-shirt with pride and begs to go to Dotty's whenever we are in Etna. I was glad to hear the restaurant was saved after Dotty retired. Thanks Charles for the info on both Dotty and Akili. read more

I grew up in Fort Jones near here, but went to school across the street from Dotty's ... My father "Gary Mortenson" was the owner of the Pioneer Press and did a story on the very GENTLE Elephant Akilii... I got to ride her once back in the day when they would give rides out. Dotties is not the same, it's not dirty and run down, (if you you like dirty and run down, read no further). Dotties has better food and it is prepared in a clean enviornment. The sit down part is well cared for and has a fifties ambience with a local history in pictures. It's a positive that the people who took the place over cleaned up the grounds as well.
