Dosa Point may take the prize of most unassuming location to serve the tastiest food. Located in a decades old strip mall, the festive window instantly signals something different lies ahead. I have never been to India, but I felt instantly transported by the interior design. I can absolutely image that this is exactly what the restaurant would look like had it opened in India instead of Menlo Park. Upon being seated at your table, you are presented with a QR code to place your order. We were proceeding as such, but our first timer-ness must have been showing because someone arrived at our table with paper menus and an offer to take our order in person. The menu is extensive with lots of categories. We ordered Masala Fries, Butter Chicken, Shrimp Noodles, and plain Naan. Our group of three was eating at a later hour than usual and didn't want to overdo it with too many dishes. We did end up adding an order of rice to finish off the chicken. Everything was delicious. Lots of people came in to pickup takeout orders. The only negative--the automatic service charge and additional tip option which endlessly confuses me. I have no idea what the expectation is in the restaurant industry or what I'm within my rights to do as a customer. It puts a bit of a damper on what was a wonderful experience. This was a lovely find! I was in MP for an appointment and decided to grab lunch while there. It's in a strip mall looking complex and it didn't get my hopes up walking up to the location. However the indoors is a different story-- very elegant and beautifully decorated. The chairs were so comfy! Now the real deal, food: Ordered chilli chicken, gongura masala dosa, and chettinad chicken dosa-- I enjoyed everything but my favorite was gongura dosa. It did not even need any masala, so good as is. Chutneys and sambhar were good too but nothing special. Filter coffee was good. I was a bit frustrated because there was a table of people close to where I was sitting who were obnoxiously loud. Also, I ordered a mango lassi and when it came out it wasn't even full in the cup. If you aren't going to fill the plastic cup up completely you might as well switch to a smaller cup... I told a waiter that it wasn't full and a woman who seemed like a manager came back to tell me that there was nothing wrong with it and that was the size. I know how the restaurant industry works and I think it's frustrating when people try to argue against a customer just so they can be "right". Moving past the less-than-ideal customer service, the mango lassi itself is decent, it has a distinct taste of cardamom. I ordered a goat dosa. The dosa was good but too spicy for my liking (I have a high spice tolerance). The gajar halwa was my favorite part of the meal. It had some dried rose petals and cashews on top. Very good. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. I also wish it was down the street from me instead of a 35 min drive. The dosa was incredible! I really liked the ginger chutney, I think it may have had carrot in it as well. The idli was quite bouncy and excellent as a sauce vehicle. The lentil soup went really well with it as did the ginger chutney. Also incredible was the butter chicken which was so tender and so savory and delicious. I regret not getting a second order to go for when the cravings hit. The saag paneer was great but not as mouth watering as the butter chicken. The place itself is in a strip mall with parking in front but the turnoff from the road is easy to miss. There's steeet parking nearby too. You order via QR code and the food comes out quite quickly. We came on a Saturday at lunch and it was not busy but they had many takeout orders. A mix of modern and artistic inside. This restaurant is the perfect combination of typical South Indian vegetarian and North Indian food. We ordered the dahi vada which had a delectable topping of yogurt, tamarind sauce, and almond flakes. Highly recommend as an appetizer to start with. The paneer tikka sizzler was also delicious and came on a bed of vegetable: broccoli, kale, mushrooms, onions. I have never seen paneer tikka come with this many vegetables so I was pleasantly surprised, not to mention the taste was wonderful. We also ordered butter chicken that had the perfect amount of spice, not too creamy and not too mild. Chicken was tender. Rave dosa and Kal dosa were also delicious and came with three types of chutneys. Highly recommend the mango lassi and rose milk as well as the carrot Halwa for dessert. This is a small restaurant in Menlo Park which is very clean and well maintained. The service is good but parking can be a nightmare (as it was for me tonight). For a small restaurant they have an extensive menu. I have always tried one of their South Indian dishes which has never disappointed me. Today I tried Mylapore masala dosa which was very well done. Great dosas and delicious butter chicken. We especially like the paper dosa and the basic masala dosa. Dahi vada was creamy, rich and a great app to share. Everything is flavorful and wonderfully scented. Chapathi and paratha are special treats we indulge in. We want to explore the large menu more - and it's a great place for vegetarians and vegans. Pretty cute neighborhood Indian eatery - very casual - and very sparse in decoration/ambience. I went for lunch and got the samosas which are little heavier on the dough to filling ratio = prefer a thinner dough with more filling and would definitely request them to not cut them in half prior to serving. They get colder quicker this way and if you don't immediately turn them filling side up - the filling will fall out if you leave them for more than a few minutes before eating them....awkward lol Uttapam was ok but the dosas at the table next to me looked so much more compelling - huge crispy folded over crepe = the sambal served was the smallest serving I've ever seen at a dosa place and you get two of the same chutneys coconut I believe and then on tomato one... There's a bit of a gap for good South Indian food north of Sunnyvale, with Dosa Point in Menlo Park as a glowing exception. Excellent, authentic dosas and other South Indian dishes, as well as a mix of other more northern Indian fare (e.g. gobi manchurian). The ambiance is spare and utilitarian, as authentic Indian restaurants often are. Prices are reasonable for the quantity - another thing that feels rare along this stretch of the Peninsula. Incredible food and kind service! Dosa Point offers a good mix of meat and veg-based Northern and Southern Indian food. My go-to dosa is the Chettinadu Chicken Dosa, which blends a great mix of spices with a perfectly crisped dosa. Some great appetizers include the Kale Pakoras and various Chaat. For drinks, I find myself enjoying either chai, Thumbs Up Indian Cola, or their fresh mango lassi with bits of fresh mint. For dessert, I recommend getting their carrot halwa. I have not been so disappointed by a restaurant lately. Dosa Point was a real let down in terms of both service and food quality. Ambiance was okay and had plenty of parking outside. We arrived here, and had to wait for about 5-7 mins in the food pickup line. The person at the front was indifferent to anyone walking in from the door. I finally had to ask if I can get a table. The person said yes and got us a table. Anyway, then they gave us menus and few mins later they brought us water. I wanted to eat something light as I wasn't feeling well. I asked for idlis and the server said they were sold out of idlis and it may take 15-20 mins to get that. I said okay I can wait. And the sever insisted that it will take longer. They didn't want to serve idli - that was quite clear. So I said sure - I will get spring dosas. Now the funny part, a dosa generally takes less than 5 mins to make. They took about 20 mins to get me spring dosa. I might as well have gotten what I really craved. And it wasn't that the severs were busy. There were only a couple of customers at the restaurant. And only one other person(not even the whole table) was served a plate of food during that 20 mins. So the service was just disastrous. Now the food. This was one of the worst spring dosas I have ever had. Spring dosa is supposed to have a filling of a lot of fresh seasonal vegetables. 90% of the filling was potatoes and cabbage. What a ridiculous combination. It was flavorless raw filling. It didn't taste fresh or herbaceous - nothing that one can relate with what a spring dosa is supposed to be. Eating it made me feel nauseous. On the top of that, the server brought me the device to pay while I was still eating. I had more than a quarter of dosa to go through. They charge a 15% service charge on all dine in orders, regardless of the poor customer service and terrible food quality. Never returning back here! read more

This is my favorite go to Dosa place I love the Chicken Tikka Dosa and Vada so much so I always order it and wash it down in a nice minty mango lassi I always crave this place and they make everything fresh and the Gajar ka halwa is the best I ever had honestly great place close by also. The ambiance has been renovated a lot in this place too which makes it more comfortable and chill. I definitely did not confirm the order, however I look down to discover that the order had processed via email confirmation. I attempted to call the restaurant in order to cancel my order, however no one answered the phone. I forgot about it and proceeded to enjoy my Sunday evening until an Employee from the establishment repeatedly texted and called my cell (even from a private number). I had to block the number because this individual was repeatedly texting me and refused to cancel my order as I had requested. I kindly asked for them to cancel my order and the representative refused, telling me that I should be "ashamed" of myself? Honestly, who says such things to paying customers? I am happy to report that I have requested a charge back from my bank and will happily do everything within my power to ensure that this business does not see a dime of my money. Very tasty food, great quality, but quantity is only ok for the price. At first glance, I expected the spice levels to be insane but was pleasantly surprised. There was a light kick but not overwhelmingly so. I got Chicken Tikka Skewers and the entire dish was delicious. Chicken Tikka Skewers - no skewers for takeout so they take the chicken off. I think they use metal ones for reusability. Anyway the chicken is a heavy red but the spiciness is tolerable. Tender, juicy chicken with great flavor. Vegetables on the side are marinated with all the other flavors and taste great as well. For the higher price point though, I'd expect it to be more filling but you may need to order more items depending on your appetite. read more

Wow probably the best dosas I've ever had (granted, I've had pretty minimal exposure to dosas in my life). Everything else we ordered was delicious as well. We got the Gobi Manchurian (sweet and tangy cauliflower) to start. It had great flavor and was the perfect appetizer. For entrees we went with Paneer Butter Masala and the Chettinadu Chicken Dosa (dosa filled with spicy house chicken). Both were fantastic. We were warned that the spicy house chicken is spicy, but my boyfriend and I both thought it was an okay level of spicy. We could definitely taste the spicy but we weren't sweating at all. I saw a lot of other tables get the plain dosas (no filling) so I'll have to try that next! I really appreciate that the online menu has photos of all the dishes. Podi masala dosa : thin crispy yummy dosa, the masala was well cooked and Podi was super delicious. Served with coconut chutney, yummy red chutney and sambar. Loved it. 2. Cheese utthapam : an interesting twist. I liked the utthapam. Well cooked, decent size and consistency. 3. Chicken fry: super tasty, small bite sized pieces of chicken deep fried and sauteed with aromatics. Served with side salad. Yummy! 4. Gongura chicken : authentic Andhra dish, it tasty fresh, yummy and super flavourful. Served with a bowl of flavoured basmati rice and salad. Overall I loved the food. Great, affordable Indian food! I've been here a handful of times and always get: -Butter chicken (5/5) - the order is small if you want to share but the perfect size for an entree. I do like the strong tomato flavor the dish brings. -Garlic naan (5/5) - large pieces and not overly buttery or garlicy, so it was perfect -Samosa (4/5) -Masala dosa (3/5) - I like how many sauces this one comes with to dip, but it wasn't outstanding for me. It's a crepe-like dough filled with potatoes. -Poori Chole: a fluffy, airy dough that is so fun to eat. I always eat it with some dipping sauce or dip with the sauce from the butter chicken. Or maybe that's a good thing otherwise I'd be eating here most days Amazing south Indian staples like idli and dosas, superbly tasty sambar and chutneys, finger licking good non-vegetarian dishes, and friendly service! I like to eat my vegetarian south Indian mixed with the non vegetarian dishes (sacrilegious I know!), so I definitely appreciate this place for serving both. We started with tea, ordered idlis and Kal dosa (comes with two thick crepes), the chicken fry dish and the shrimp fry dish (check pics for names), and ended our meal with the dahi vada. Each and everything was beyond tasty and I think the true test of this restaurant is in the chutneys and sambar they serve. So flavorful! Tried them for the first time. Mind you, I have very little knowledge about Indian food and this is the first for me to try Dosa. The place is neat and clean. The hosts were welcoming and didn't wait long to get a table. I was looking at the other tables food and was super curious and ordered a similar Dosa that the server explained. While waiting we washed our hands and wow oh wow, it came quick enough and it was very interesting. It looked like a cheese crepe but this one is crunchy and more flavorful with different sauces to dip in. I absolutely loved it and really enjoyed eating with my hands!
