Dosa Grill was so good! I just spent a month in India last Dec-Jan and dosas were one of my favorite dishes. I was told by a friend in Cali that there would be "none anywhere" in the US and to eat up while I could. When I posted the picture of my dosa to FB she said she was the most jealous person in America! So, the dosa (with coconut chutney even!) was good, but on the buffet I also tried and liked: the navaratan korma (rich and full of veggies), the chicken biryani (actually spicy and with great spice notes), the goat curry (mega rich, just like it should be), and the chicken mehti (also spicy, and smoky, too). The vegetable fritters were a bit dry and over cooked, but that is almost always the case with buffet foods. The mango lassi I got was more mango than yogurt (a good think in my opinion), and the mango custard was also good. The kheer was a bit soupy, compared to the thick sweet kheer I had in Old Delhi--but if I'm comparing the Indian food to *actual* Indian food, it's safe to assume it's still really really good. They even had what looked like a kind of papri chaat on the buffet, which was amazing. I'm not *from* India, but this food seems to be very authentic to dishes I tried in Mumbai, Agra, and Delhi. They bring you naan to your table and I thought I saw someone walking by with puri on a plate. Puri bahji was my favorite dish (after a fruit and vegetable navaratan I had in Agra) so I'll go back and see if they make it. If there's a low point, it's the wine selection. No winery names, just varietals at $4/glass. You get what you pay for. But I don't drink wine with my Indian food, so I'm not worried about it. On a Monday around 6, the place was packed, so keep that in mind if you want to go at any time more traditionally busy. read more

Lunch buffet is a great value here. Pretty much the only reason to come here and it's the only Indian place close to one of my offices. Food: Standard lunch buffet Indian fare with AYCE (all you can eat) salad, chickpeas, tikka masala, curry, rice, etc. It's not the best I've ever had, but for $7, it is really a great value for a quick noon-time lunch. Nothing notably excellent or wrong with the food, just standard Indian fare. Service: the staff is really working hard here, especially during the busy lunch rush. They always are asking if you need anything, bringing you baskets of AYCE naan, water, another napkin (ha!). The manager was running the cash register the last few times I was there, he was busy as hell. Ambiance: well, there are mirrors on a wall that many people check their hair in (I also was leaving once and found a rather large stain on my shirt from something I ate). So I guess that is somewhat nice....? And, well, that's about it. Oh yeah, they play Indian music too. For serious food lovers, this is probably not the Indian place for you. Those that are seeking great value and/or a quick lunch, definitely try this place out! read more

I'm not a big fan of Indian fare but occasionally I'm struck with a strange craving for its distinct flavor. Dosa Grill recently satisfied said craving. We visited on a Saturday evening (around 7) and were surprised to discover that the restaurant was full. I've only been to the restaurant once before - about a year ago - and it was very quiet at the time; I didn't realize Dosa had been discovered and become so popular. We only waited a few minutes for a table, but I recommend making reservations on the weekend. I was with a party of five and we started with two appetizers. I only sampled the cheesy naan and it was delicious - warm, fresh, soft and just a little chewy. For my entree, I chose a very simple, not very adventurous, dish: fried rice. There's probably not much that could go wrong with fried rice but still, it's worth saying that it was very good. I would get it again but add chicken to it. The portions are generous and the staff is friendly. Our bill was about $70, which I think is very reasonable for a lot of good food. With dim lighting and warm decor, the ambeince is nice. After reading others' reviews and viewing fellow diners' dishes, I plan to try a dosa on my next visit. read more

Solid 3.5-3.75 star. This is the best Indian place Syracuse. I was introduced to this place by a mentor and I absolutely love their lunch buffet. The price, food, and service are all good. Nice food but very poor customer care. I don't know if this is just me and my friends or everyone, but they don't treat Indians the way these people treat others. And also, if you are pissed off, left without a tip, they will come down at the parking area and argue with you. (Trust me, happened to me once) Change the waiters or at least teach them some goddamn hospitality and manners. read more

BEST! Dosa and Taj Mahal have the best indian in the surrounding area and I have had them all. The guys are awesome and so friendly. The food is always fresh and the staff does their best to be accommodating and helpful even though the place is always busy! Only one of two Indian places Ill order from in Syracuse and I've been to all of them. They do a good job with their curries and appetizers. You definitely have to try their samosas. My favorite meal there is Paneer Makhni. 4 star because 1. Great food. 2. Not the best atmosphere. 3. And service varies from okay to great. read more

3 things are going to happen when you ordered from here. The wait is going to be ridiculously longer than quoted. Possibly an hour or more. Your food is going to be wrong. Items will be missing that you have specifically requested. The third thing that will happen is the food will be great. It probably won't be what you ordered but it will be very good. I won't be back unfortunately the service is so atrocious I just can't justify spending my money here. Which is a shame because the food is good. read more

This was without a doubt the worst Indian food I have ever had. Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines, and so it really pains me to write such a bad review, but I really can't find anything positive to say about my experience at Dosa Grill. To begin with, I arrived on a Sunday night for dinner and there were not too many people in the establishment. Nevertheless, my waiter seated me at the very front by the door. I finally asked to move to one of the booths (there were 3 available). The staff was accommodating of my request but I don't see why I wasn't offered a booth from the start. I thought my dining experience might improve from there- and I was wrong. After waiting and waiting for someone to come around to take my order, I ordered a mango lassi, vegetable samosas, and chicken biryani. The mango lassi was warm and did not taste like mango lassi, it tasted like a papaya shake. The vegetable samosas were bland and flavorless- something which is unheard of in Indian eateries. The waitress brought me goat biryani instead of chicken, and I was looked at like I had four eyes when I flagged a different waiter down to say that my dish did not taste like chicken. It took two more people to come over until they finally realized the mistake. The chicken biryani did not have any of the golden raisins or cashew nuts or typical garnishes of this dish and tasted like basmati rice tossed around in massala. The best part of this dish was the garlic naan- which speaks volumes on its own. This is a restaurant that I will not soon be repeating (translation: never again). read more

Ordered food through doordash. And as everyone else has said it took 2+ hours to receive. The doordash driver changed because of how long he/she had to wait. We called and people are just yelling in the background. They told us the order back to us and still managed to forgot an item in my order. The lunch buffet is delicious. There are a ton of options and reasonably priced! Everything was hot and super tasty. The dining room was packed when I went there and the staff was very busy. Due to the busy lunch rush I can understand the weaker service. We ordered ice tea but had to ask again because they didn't bring it initially. They also never came by to bring a menu or ask if we wanted the buffet, maybe it is a given during lunch time to do the buffet. Water refills took a while too. Amazing food and amazing service. My significant other and I are pretty adventurous eaters and my friends from India kept telling me I need to try a dosa, naturally we went to the Dosa Grill. None of the staff came and apologized for the long wait or to keep us updated. We ended up walking out without receiving anything and went somewhere else to eat. I went alone on a Saturday looking to grab some buffet to-go, but I didn't realize that there isn't a nighttime buffet on Saturdays. Nonetheless, I stayed and ordered the Chana Masala, garlic naan and a mango lassi. Had lunch today at the Dosa Grill, our first restaurant experience since mid-March when Covid 19 broke, and we were a little nervous about going out to eat at all. We had nothing to worry about. Of course, their wonderful buffet lunch was not available, but the dining room was immaculate and rearranged to provide appropriate distancing, staff consistently kept their masks on, used hand sanitizer, and they removed and thoroughly disinfected the glass table covers between each customer. We felt that every possible safety precaution was being taken. That said, this is our go-to Indian restaurant in Syracuse, we had a wonderful meal from the menu, the food was delicious and expertly prepared, the staff attentive and service was prompt. I especially enjoyed my Tandoori shrimp, my daughter loved her bhendi masala, and my husband his vegetable biryani. We will certainly not wait so long to return again, we had a delicious meal and a delightful experience. read more

Growing up in a very populated Indian town, I've been eating Indian food for a pretty decent amount of my life. I came here and was pleasantly surprised by the lunch buffet. My boyfriend and I came in while it was busy but not packed. After being seated however, the restaurant quickly got packed and there was a line out the door (maybe because it was a holiday weekend or the food was just that good). The buffet had a great variety of food ranging from all different types of tastes. While I had a sampling of them all, my favorite is always the classic Chicken Tikka Masala and they did it exceptionally well here. It was so rich in flavor but not overwhelming and the chicken was very tender and easy to chew. The vegetables dishes were well cooked and tasted very delicious. The briyani was also very flavorful and comforting. The complimentary dosa and naan was very satisfying to pair with the buffet food. And to conclude, the rice pudding had a sweet touch to soothe the palate after all the spicy, creamy dishes. Overall, very happy with the food and definitely one of the better Indian buffets I've had. read more

Food is pretty good- buffet come with unlimited dosa and naan, which is always nice. However, the restrooms in the back were quite sub-par. There weren't enough restrooms to begin with and it had become quite smelly and dirty... if you don't use the restroom, it's not a bad place to eat. read more

This is probably one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. The waiters/servers are very nice. The service is a little bit slow even so this is a great restaurant. The color dosa I got was pretty good but it needed just a hint more flavor. Even so, I would still recommend getting the dosa. The mango juice is to die for. They don't have a lot of choice for beverages. I wish they had lemonade but even if they did I would of gotten the mango juice. Mango juice and lemonade is a toss up for me. Anyhow, the prices are very good. I get a dosa at a different Indian restaurant for $12 while at Dosa Grill I got a dosa for basically $9. I would recommend for anyone visiting Syracuse to check it out. :) read more

This restaurant is actually ridiculous. They told me my pickup time was in 40 minutes, so I came in 40 minutes. However, I, along with literally everyone else that had ordered food, ended up waiting an hour even more than we had been told. The staff was rude and short tempered with people who were literally just asking about how much longer they would have to wait. It is fine that they were busy. I would expect, however, for them to be more transparent about their wait times instead of just repeating "five more minutes" over and over. At the end of my hour long wait, the waiter was racist towards me, as if trying to make a joke. That was THE LAST straw. Dosa grill, I hope you get your business together because that was the least organized, most chaotic, and frankly most unacceptable way I've ever seen restaurant staff handle busy hours. read more

Indian food is one of my favorites. We were working in Syracuse and decided to treat my employees after work. I believe we all concur that this has, by far, the worst I've ever had.
