It is very rare when Dos Coyotes in North Davis drops the ball. Last week my takeout order turned out to be a Border burrito instead of my requested Southwest burrito. I chalked up the error to a new staffer. This week as usual, I attended Mass at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. Mass lets out after 8:15 p.m. and since I know Dos Coyotes kitchen stops at 8:30 p.m. I called them from my vehicle by 8:25 p.m. because I can tell I won't make it in time. Anyway the staff member reluctantly took my order reminding me yet again that they stop taking orders at 8:30 p.m.. I explained that's why I'm calling! She asks me to pay my credit card first (never been asked that before) so I pull over, and gave her my credit card. Arriving just after 8:30 p.m. I see my bag with my to-go order on it. I took my bag home hoping there had been no errors in what I had ordered this week. Thankfully it appears to be a Southwest burrito with chicken, but unfortunately it appears the bowl is only half empty! There was some chicken underneath the guacamole and pico de gallo. Dos Coyotes is usually a very good value. Tonight, I was glad I did not tip them. After I put it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up, it was still the most disappointing meal I've had since last Sunday night's disappointment, when I got a full Bowl of a meal that I didn't ask for. If they didn't have enough chicken to put in my bowl tonight, perhaps they could have reimbursed me or called to tell me? Perhaps they could have thrown another piece of chicken on and grilled it? I would have been happy to wait... Come on management! Where's the quality control in your operation? Steak border burrito hits the spot when you are craving a decent burrito. The chips are also pretty good. The only thing that needs work is the distribution of food, everything is clumped to one side and it is not evenly distributed. The steak is flavored nicely and i'd say there is a decent amount of steak. The size of the burrito is reasonable for one person, maybe the price is a little expensive. My husband and I have eaten here for years. Over 23 to be exact. This is his favorite location as this is where they would eat in college. We should have known that tonight was not a good night to have dinner here.. We walked in and the cook was yelling at the girl packing orders. Completely unprofessional and embarrassing. I looked at her and said wow! No management insight to correct what was happening either. Now onto dinner. We waited over 30 minutes for our 2 identical Chicken Cesar Salads with no corn / bean salsa and no chips. As our diet does not allow those ingredients. I'm still trying to understand the confusion over this being a fusion place, so I'll end that here: YES, IT IS FUSION. I don't think the word "Mexican" is used more than a couple times on the menu even. If you want authentic Mexican food, this is NOT your place. If you are looking for a twist on Mexican flavors, Dos is a great option to get some *fused* flavors of the Southwest. Picked up some burritos for a PCR class at UCD. The burritos were cut in half and wrapped in foil for a conference-convenient lunch. Just keep in mind that if you are looking for authentic Mexican food, you should keep looking. This place has never disappointed me. Everything is delicious, fresh and worth the price. Salads are huge (so far have tried only the Adobe and Yucatan salads) and easily able to serve 2 people. I've also had their special Pineapple, shrimp quesadilla - delicious and not heavy at all (light on the cheese as it came with its own Tex-Mex type of sauce). My usual for the last 17 years has been the Ranchero Burrito A La Carte which comes with your choice of grilled meat plus a wet cheese/onion sauce over the burrito. It is so good! No fillers either..no rice, no beans, just meat, guac, and salsa inside. Their homemade chips go well with the cheese sauce or just top it with some meat and you're good to go! I've heard their fish tacos are excellent but I never want to stray from my favorite dish...hmm actually, maybe I'll get both next time! Don't forget to check out their generous salsa bar. I've eaten here so many times I can't keep count. I just want to say that the southwest chicken burrito is by far my favorite burrito ever. I'm not a big rice and beans fan but I still love a good burrito and dos gets it: the south west burrito is protein, salsa, guac and cheese and they do not skimp out on any of the ingredients. I'm just so glad that they have this as an option, because at other places if you ask for no beans and rice, they might not do it, because they don't want to give you extra protein and they heavily use rice as filler (yuck). Everythign was cooked well although there was not much depth to any of the flavors in my burrito. Guads is still one of my favorites! There's usually a line here to order but it moves pretty quickly. Sometimes though, if you're here during a rush or just service is slow, it can take a while. The store itself is pretty big so you shouldn't have a problem finding seating. There is a ton of parking available outside as well since there are a ton of stores in the area including Safeway and Petco. This was the first ever location for Dos Coyotes and is quite large after doubling its original size many years ago. As usual we split a Southwest chicken burrito. The food was delivered to our table quickly and they brought us the requested extra plate. At the salsa bar the seasonal roasted corn salsa is making a welcome appearance. Today our chips were a little greasy but we've never had problems with greasy chips before so no star deductions for this aberration. I always ask for my receipt when I go because they inevitably take forever and it's nice to know at what time I ordered for my own sanity. They tend to take between 15-30 minutes usually. A few times in the past they've skimped on salmon or scallops in a burrito and replaced it with shrimp or chicken which was upsetting because some things cost more than others and I'm not getting what I paid for. Update: they definitely put chicken in my "seafood fajita burrito" instead of the scallops that it states on the menu. They wanted an extra 1.50 for the chips. I've never had Mexican restaurant charge you for chips. That was a big red flag. My burrito was cold! I didn't send it back because I know that it would come back with some sort of secret sauce or added ingredients, if you know what I mean. This is that kind of place. The place is dirty. Been here a few times now, and it's altogether fine. Not the best or most authentic Mexican place, but if you're looking to mix things up it's a good option. They have some more unique dishes on the menu, like lots of different salads which is rare at most Mexican places. I was a little disappointed with the burrito I got here though...the ingredients were soooo badly distributed! When eating it I ate all the rice on its own at the top, then all the meat and cheese, and then the whole bottom quarter, maybe even third, was just beans and nothing else. Not great! I came back a second time and ordered tacos, which were much better. They were nothing too special, but I really liked the chicken in them (charbroiled, maybe?) I will also say that the environment is a lot nicer than some of the hole-in-the-wall Mexican places, which have little seating or ambience.
