This was my 1st visit here 29 May 2021. I wanted to try the spinach tamales. The masa tasted fine but I expected spinach since that is what the menu stated. Food - 5 Service - 4 Value - 4 It's really too bad this place isn't closer to where we live because if it was, it would then be our new go-to place for Tex-Mex. We got the brisket enchiladas and the combo chicken/beef fajitas. The enchiladas were a bit different in that there was potato on the inside and the brisket was spread outside. The fajitas are the best I've had in the DFW area so far. While I normally prefer chicken fajitas, the beef was cooked so tender that this is one place where I might order the beef fajitas over chicken. When we eventually get around to coming here again, we'll probably try the Torta and Guiso. read more

I have a crazy obsession with cheese enchiladas and get them everywhere I can. The ones at Frankie's were inedibly salty and the rice and beans were bland. The portions are also slightly smaller than other restaurants at the same price point. Also be careful when ordering take out- the menu online isn't consistent with the one in the restaurant. They did honor what the online menu said after I pulled it up on my phone and showed them, but make sure to double check what you're getting when you pick up. I wouldn't come back. read more

We came for a family evening and the reviews among us were mixed but the general consensus was that everything needed more flavor. Mexican food should be full of taste and this didn't even seem like it had simple salt and pepper. The tamales hardly had any meat, the ranchero sauce on the enchiladas was not good- almost bitter, the burger was ok, the brisket enchiladas were reported to be good, the fajitas were good but needed some flavor and the meat was tough. My favorite tex-mex restaurant in the dallas area because of its heavy influence of authentic Mexican cuisine. They have a delicious brisket queso ( the queso is white and creamy). Sometimes during lunch they will bring you little tostadas for the table. Their menu is diverse and long. We have noticed that their lunch and dinner menus are differently priced just FYI. Nevertheless, their portions are pretty large and definitely filling. Their margaritas are good and strong . During happy hour, which they have every day, their margaritas are only $3, I think. They accommodate big parties at al times of the day, even when they are busy. Their staff is very attentive. Finally, The atmosphere is dim lit, average noise, and busy restaurant. P.S. I have a really hard time getting reception there in case you are planning on using your phone a lot. read more

I don't know how this restaurant got 4 stars. The service was good; but the food was very disappointing. The salsa is extremely hot, actually burning my throat. The chicken fajitas tasted strange and had an unusual texture.. My guest and I could not eat them. Not meaning to sound gross, but I had to take the pieces of chicken out of my mouth. There are too many good Mexican restaurants in DFW to eat at this one. The review said $$, but in actuality the place is inexpensive. In Texas there are many good Mexican restaurants and a very few excellent ones...Frankie's is one of the EXCELLENT ones! This place has it all...the setting, the ambience, the service, the food, the drinks, the desserts...they do not miss a beat! Just walking up to the place you feel like you are in for something special and not only does it not let you down, it only gets better from there! The chips and salsa are delicious, always a great sign at a Mexican restaurant. While you wait for your order, they bring you a tostada, and I got to say it was amazing, in fact, I did not even know I liked tostadas. Then they brought my order, the Shrimp Tacos...AMAZING! This is a family owned restaurant, started and owned by two brothers, Augustin, and you guessed it.. Frankie! They say they are serving "family favorites". Great place in a really nice, shady, residential shopping center. Glenda and I tried it because of the good reviews. Good chips and salsa to start with. Glenda did the enchilada plate and really liked it. My Carne Asada had plenty of grilled onions and was covered in a white melted cheese. So good. I will order this again. They even cooked the steak right, medium rare please! Great bar with TV's and a really nice covered patio for eating outside. The good reviews are for a reason. You need to try this place. read more

Truly authentic Mexican Cuisine! Frankie's has some of the best Mexican food I've eaten. The chips are addictive and the salsa is heavenly. I try to get something different every time I go, but I always wind up ordering the Parrillada. It's the ULTIMATE fajita plate. Sausage, chicken, steak, AND shrimp on a sizzling hot bed of fajita onions and green peppers. The dish comes with refried beans, sour cream, rice, and pico! The serving is huge and could easily be split between two people. Tip: Ask for their chipotle sauce and dip your chips in it. Definitely one of the best things to dip your chips in. Sundays have ALL DAY HAPPY HOUR. $3 Mimosas are perfect for that Sunday brunch. Overall, a great place to go for lunch or dinner! The staff is extremely nice. One day I will make an actually lunch rush time. I entered the location, they have a real nice handicap ramp and entrance also. The patio dining area was nice also. No one was there to eat, but me the bartender went to get me a waiter. Very friendly gentleman no name tag. He seated me then brought me hot fresh chips with salsa and an ice tea w lime wedge. The menu has a lot to offer to the customers front and back. I ordered the 3 Amigos and it was very delicious and nice portions. The area was spotless and very clean for dinner service. Great family run business. This restaurant is very popular and is probably a Richardson institution for those in the neighborhood. Service is excellent, friendly and attentive. They do a great job here with that. Although the place was packed, they are very fast with their seating and food delivery so this is a well oiled machine. The other thing they do a great job in is with their food. Delicious, authentic Mexican food. I had brisket tacos and they were excellent and the meat seemed to be good quality. Lunch includes salsa and chips which were great. I also ordered some guac which was fresh and very tasty. I will come here again! read more

This is one of my favorite Tex-Mex places. I love their white queso, the large bowl is $7.00. It is creamy and thick. I would have to agree with others that their rice and beans are kind of bland but I stick to their house specialties which are always amazing. Angie's Enchiladas $13.50 is my favorite, it has a nice subtle spice to it. The Mexican sausage and cream sauce it has goes great together. I have also had the Brisket Enchiladas $15.00 which sounds kind of weird with mashed potato enchiladas but it works well together with the brisket and is surprisingly tasty. My teacher friends and I went to Frankie's last Friday after the first week of school. They were so very rude to us. They said we couldn't push tables together, only have happy hour in the bar area... where they wouldn't accommodate us. They said we would just sit there and not order food and drinks. There was maybe one other table of costumers in there at this time. We were so mortified that we went to Shady's. We ordered probably 10 appetizers, and most def. drinks. It was a very busy week, so you can only imagine. All we wanted to do was celebrate, and they were utterly and completely rude. Very disappointed in this place. We ordered queso with brisket, fajitas and calamari tacos. I didn't care for the queso but the brisket was good. Fajitas came out overcooked and they tasted like fried rice. Calamari tacos were ok but there wasn't a lot of Calamari in them. Honestly, my family & I used to LOVE this place. Most of the staff is friendly minus a couple of people who simply do not treat us the same anymore. Have no idea why! Their food is so good, but I think next time, we won't be sitting at the bar area anymore where management tends to be. One of the sisters who owns the joint is such sweetheart. She is usually seen with a cute bun, serving chips and salsa and checking on all the guests. SHE is the sweetest one there. OH, and ZELENA! She is the sweet hostess who also goes around and checks on the guests. It makes a huge difference, I do not care WHICH time we are in (covid, the chaos in the world) or "how busy you are" ... just be kind or don't be in the service industry. Music: You will know if you go there enough that it is the same old bad 80's music, and not good 80's music (in my opinion) either. The food here was delicious. The atmosphere is great the only issue was our waiter he was very short spoken and it seemed like he was rushing us. He asked us for our order we gave it to him and then he was about to walk away I had to stop him because he was about to forget our drink order then 10min into eating he comes and is already asking how we want our check. This restaurant just opened up. and the only thing I can think of is...OMG... the mojito's are the best in the world. In addition to that, its CHEAP!!!. The wife had a margarita and it was stout and only 4 bucks.... but besides that the food was absolutely unique and delicious... I had the beef brisket tacos... they were great... to me what makes a mexican restaurant good is the BEANS... and the the beans tasted fresh and very homemade. IF you get anything, make sure you add the avocado dip to your dish as a dip... it is to die for... just to let you know... I am not a fan of Mexican food, but this place... with its unique atmosphere kinda off the beaten path... provide a very refreshing atmosphere on a hot sunny day in Dallas... THIS IS A MUST SEE to believe. reasonable priced drinks... and large portion meals lead to one thing.... A Siesta de la casa afterwords.. LOVED IT!!! read more

I've been eyeballing Frankie's for quite awhile and finally had a chance to hit them up for lunch. As a result, this is a 2.4-star review that doesn't quite deserve to be rounded up to 3. The good: ~The space is adorable. Tucked in the corner of a teeny, hidden strip mall in Richardson, Frankie's is the quintessential word-of-mouth restaurant. They even wrapped the patio in plastic, which I assume is to try and hold in the A/C. I don't know if it works but they get an A for effort! ~The service was great. Our waitress and support staff were very attentive. The not-so-good: ~The food just wasn't that good and it was overpriced, especially for lunch. My burrito was $5.99, which is priced right, but it was flavorless and came with french fries. How weird is that? My lunch date's brisket enchiladas were $9.99 and were filled with mashed potatoes (the brisket was piled on top). She loved them but my one bite told me I prefer my Tex Mex/Mexican sans potato. It was just weird, yo. Maybe I ordered wrong, maybe my expectations were too high. I guess I'll give them another shot but it'll probably be for a $3 'Rita at happy hour. If they can't do that right, I'll be done. There are just too many other options in town to settle for mediocre, expensive, identity-confused Mexican food. read more

It's terrific to have an affordable and welcoming place right in the neighborhood - so close that you can walk through the lovely II Creeks forested plaza and forget you are in the middle of the city. The food is exemplary. From the complimentary appetizers and daily happy starting at a sensible 10:00 AM, everything is handmade and served with a smile. I have tried many items but anything with the smoked brisket is over the top. The brisket quesadilla is OUTSTANDING and can easily feed two. I have to mention the frozen margarita's. THE BOMB! Very strong and made with good nurturing tequila. Can not recommend Frankie's enough. The occasional lines move quickly are a testament to the popularity of this service focused neighborhood establishment! read more

I'm a Richardson resident and LOVE to support our local businesses and restaurants - I finally went back to Frankie's after having a bad customer service experience there earlier this year. On the plus side, the ambience is nice and cozy, the II Creeks area is awesome, and they have good chips and salsa. My husband and I also had good service. However, I ordered the guiso (pork stew) and it was extremely salty. I know pork is salty in general, but it tasted like they added even more salt to the tomato-based stew. It also came with a side of rice and beans. They were both cold and looked like they had been scraped out of the bottom of whatever it had been cooked in. I'm very disappointed, mostly because everyone talks about how great Frankie's is. I really want to like this place! Not usually a complainer, but I wanted to be honest since I really tried to give it a second chance. I prefer their sister restaurant Amigos. read more

This place is 4.5 stars all the way! The half star is just reserved for super outstanding, just plain old outstanding is still pretty good. The dining area indoors is a bit dark but acceptable. The staff was fabulous everyone was nice, friendly, and efficient polite. The menu is uncluttered but abundant with interesting dishes which from what I tried are well executed in both appearance, flavor and portion. Damn even the prices are fantastic. This is a classy place but there were TV's in the dining area which brings the class factor down a notch. The up beat Hispanic salsa tunes were redeeming but the volume was a touch on the loud side. No worries I was eating alone so I wasn't straining to hear people at my table. The dinner was great, fast and hot I was impressed with the brisket enchiladas. I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I was at another office location one day and wanted to grab lunch with coworkers before I went back and this place had high ratings. Honestly, I can see why! While it's tucked away in a small parking lot, it has a great patio and a decent sized interior. We got seated fast (around 1pm on a weekday) and immediately had drinks and our queso order taken. Let's talk about this queso, because I loved it. It's a thick white cheese queso with jalapenos in it instead of salsa and I couldn't get enough of it! Honestly, I just want a bowl of this for my birthday. Their chips are also PERFECT, just thick enough to dip with and not overcooked or too oily. Just fantastic. Everyone was also impressed by the very well-priced entrees and I loved the sour cream chicken enchiladas I got. Super tasty sauce and even the chicken had flavor. This is something I feel like a lot of TexMex restaurants get wrong. You have to SEASON this stuff, not just hope people dump a bunch of salt on it. Every bite was tasty, and the staff was friendly. Now, the reason I couldn't give 5 stars was because we sat with empty drinks pretty often, and they messed up half the orders when they first brought them out. They immediately got us new food out, but I just wasn't impressed by the service and the interior is super dark. It made us wish we'd sat on the patio because it was honestly hard to read the menus in the middle of the day. Weird! No matter what though, I'd still totally go back and eat more of that queso and try more of their menu! read more

Frankie's is one of our top TexMex spots and definitely the best in Richardson. Their chips and salsa may actually be my all-time favorite... chips are thin and crispy and the salsa is a little spicy with the perfect consistency. The food is well priced and consistently delicious. Their brisket tacos are the best I've found, and my husband loves their enchiladas. The ambiance is cozy, too. The service is usually good, but can unfortunately be inconsistent. It can also get very loud and cacophonous in the restaurant when busy due to the concrete floors and loud music. Overall though, Frankie's is our go-to for Mexican food and rarely disappoints. Love that it's a local family-owned spot, too. They also have a few other locations in the area: one in Wylie and one in Garland. I can vouch for the Garland location, but I've not yet visited the Wylie location. read more
