Frankie's rocks. It's got some great true Mexican food (say the tamales with pork stew poured over top), and some great innovative Tex Mex. There are the enchilada and taco standby options, but also some different things for those that want to branch out. I've loved everything I've had here, and the service has been unfailingly attentive. The space inside is cozy but you can still hear your conversation well, and the patio is super cute if the weather is right. It's my favorite Tex-Mex in the area, and add to the fact that it is now next to the Pearl Cup or Sweet Firefly (depending on whether you want coffee or ice cream), this area is a fantastic stop for a meal or a date. read more

I'm in the minority here, I didn't really care for this place. First impression was really good. It's a cute space with a great atmosphere. Would have sat out on the patio but it's so hot right now that wasn't really an option. Started off with the guacamole which was good, not great. Generous portion for the price. My entree though was so disappointing. I had the beef fajita tacos and the meat wasn't the best quality and had a very odd seasoning. Also wasn't too keen on the tortillas. Good chips & salsa. Strong (and tasty) margaritas. Shrimp tacos were delicious. My kiddos love coming here (much in part due to the delicious ice cream next door at Sweet Firefly). They really do scarf down the food though! Kids portions were perfect and they polished off every single bite. The service is decent. It's sometimes a little slow based on who you have. The atmosphere is fantastic - especially since the expansion. The food is great. The service is wonderful - I've only experienced 1 exceptionally rude waitress, but since my return, I have found her to not be there. The reason for no 5th star...the last time I visited, I noticed several cockroaches in the new addition. I know that things like that happen, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. I was delighted this evening by this dynamite little tex-mex joint tucked away in a Richardson neighborhood, just across from the Marcus Cafe (off of Custer, south of Renner). Frankie's Mexican Cuisine may be a pequeño restaurante, but I tell ya, the food and the service are as big as Texas. I lean toward a minimalist menu and these folks have crafted a nice one - plenty of selection that will please most palates/food preferences, but not an avalanche of options. Very creative renditions of familiar favorites. The mojito (per my dining companion) was quite good (no sugar cane, though); lots of fresh mint and not overly sweet. Nice little bar in the back. Super-fresh corn tortilla chips (minutes old); tasty queso -- not the usual yellow version, but made from a slightly sharp, white cheese. Salsa was top notch. Pork tamales were fresh and nicely seasoned; the pollo gordo was also exceptional. Special deals (as of 10/21/2010): Mon night beef/chicken fajitas $7 Tues night enchiladas and tacos $4 Superb tex-mex, confidently executed, great value, and helpful/attentive wait staff. This was such a wonderful find!!! It's been nearly impossible to find nor authentic Mexican dishes (vs. Tex Mex) sine we moved here. Both brunch and regular menu items have been enjoyed by the fam - too numerous to count. My favorite item by far, however, is their sampler appetizer platter - it's very difficult to find a sope in TX and not only does this platter represent, it does it well and the tamale isn't too shabby either. Margaritas are very inexpensive and are very tasty - they even knew what a Paloma was! And what can I say about the chips and salsa? Plentiful and tasty - your table will never be lacking! Service has always been fantastic whether every table has been packed or it's been quiet. I was greatly surprised by how much I enjoyed this restaurant. On a business trip and dined alone. My server, Alfredo, was so attentive and polite. And the veggie nachos were amazing!! So different than any nachos I've had before! Others have commented on the size of the salsa bowls. They are tiny, but the Alfredo refilled mine very quickly. Glad to discover this little strip and Frankie's! Along with Marcus Cafe and The Pearl Cup (haven't tried Shady's yet but will soon) this little square delivers. Frankie's was a good find for a nice Mexican meal. I was very satisfied with the ribeye tacos. 3 tacos full of ribeye and grilled onions. Came with a nice spicy sauce and beans. I love this place! It is a nice and somewhat secluded, but it's great for a quick dinner. I have only been here twice and have never had a problem with the service. They remind me a lot of casa mama's in terms of what they offer menu wise. I have had the brisket tacos and calamari tacos and was not at all disappointed in the flavor or portion size. I loved the margarita's because they are actually strong and not drowned in sweet & sour. My boyfriend always gets the sour cream enchiladas so if that is your thing, you will be content. I recommend giving them a go the next time you're out and about in the Richardson area. read more

Frankie's has been a long time favorite so when they reopened as Dos Arroyos I was curious to see what had changed. I'm pleased to say the QUALITY of the food was next level good! Many of the old favorites are still on the menu but the kitchen is bumpin!! Rice and beans are often an afterthought in Mexican restaurants...not here! They were as delicious as the main entree! We had the Elsa's enchiladas, tortilla soup, street corn and frozen margaritas! Can't wait to get back and try some more old favorites!! read more

Extra salsa now costs money I have been going to Frankie's for a few years, and I always love the food, although the service often leaves something to be desired. However, today when I asked for a refill of salsa, they said that they'd have to charge me for it. I asked about this on the way out and they said that if you ask for a large bowl of salsa, they will bring that for free, but if you ask for a refill on it, they will charge extra for that. The ramekin they bring by default is ludicrously sized at about an inch and a half diameter - not even big enough to get a chip into. When you ask for a larger bowl, they will bring out a two and a half inch ramekin, but at least today, it was only half full. It's too bad that someone decided to save a few pennies on their salsa and lost a regular customer over it. I won't be back. read more

WARNING! If you are thinking that since this is a sister restaurant to Amigos on Belt Line in East Richardson and the food will be the same, you will be wrong! The menus are identical but the preparation and ingredients are not. For this reason, they only get two stars which is "Meh. I've experienced better". I'm basing this review on one entree item only. Not fair, you say? Well, considering that my family has been dining regularly at Amigos years before they started opening other outposts, I feel that I have to speak out. In my opinion, Amigos (Frankie's) signature dish is Enchiladas Mexicanas, an authentic Mexican entree, NOT Tex-Mex. At Amigos, the tortillas are soaked in Guajillo sauce, then wrapped around Queso Fresco, and served with a side of Guajillo sauce. At Frankie's, the enchiladas are wrapped around Monterrey Jack! Are you kidding me?! What the hell? You Americanized the dish? Porque? (That's "Why" in Spanish"). Also, the Guajillo sauce was completely different. It seemed to be sweetened a little and not as hot. At Amigos, the Guajillo is a bit bitter and fairly hot. Honestly, I should have sent it back, but I was hungry. I asked the waiter about this issue and he said that the restaurants have the same owner but different chefs (duh). To me, if the menu is the same, then the ingredients should be the same--they are at Mama Casa in Plano, so why not at Frankie's? Soooo delicious! Found this place on Yelp and with all the great reviews it seemed like a perfect choice. After all the hype the hubby had to try brisket enchiladas and he was not disappointed! I had the beef fajitas (I judge all Mexican restaurants by the fajitas). They too were amazing! Quest blanco was very yummy as well. Totally recommend the margaritas and the Long Island ice tea. Definitely will be coming back to Frankie's. My friends and I were craving Mexican and did a Yelp and Google search and Frankie's popped up. It's far from me - about 35 minutes but was definitely worth it! We had the queso with ground beef for appetizer and loved it. Their salsa was good with a hint of spice. They were quick to refill the chips and salsa. My friend ordered something with the mole sauce and the sauce was made right. Another had the chicken fajitas and the chicken was cooked just right. I had the brisket enchiladas and they were fantastic! So delicious. I truly loved it. I am craving some right now. The portion sizes are good as well. They also brought out free sampler tostadas for the table. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and the wait staff were good. Definitely a place I will come back to. Went on a Friday night, the place was busy. Awesome food and drinks, but the wait staff/management seem a little disorganized. We walked in, got on the waitlist, and were told it would be 30 minutes. About 5 minutes later a manager walks through and starts randomly seating parties waiting by the front door. We happened to be there so we were seated. This was fine, but there was no rhyme or reason and he wasn't going off the list at all. Just strange. After we were seated every interaction with the wait staff was spaced about 5-10 apart. We got everything we wanted, but the timing wasn't consistent or quick. The food was great! Best queso I've had in a long time. I had the Frankie's enchiladas and loved them. This was my first time at Frankie's. Let me give you the run down: Service: our waiter was right there ready to take our drink order, the chip guy, was spot on, the bar had our drinks ready in no time- less than 5 min. Food: so delicious. Ceviche was AMAZING. Queso- so hard to find good Queso. While it wasn't the best queso in DFW, it was quite tasty. Salsa was very flavorful. Enchiladas, the avacado sauce on the cheese enchiladas was an amazing flavor explosion! Atmosphere: very comfortable. Noise level was good and even though the football games were on, it wasn't loud where you couldn't hear yourself think. I will definitly be back!! read more

Maybe a little pricy for some menu items but the flavor can't be beat. $4 margaritas at lunch are definitely dangerous if you have to make it back to work after, but who doesn't appreciate a strong pour?? It was what they had up for Halloween - dead branches stapled to the walls with fake cobwebs - and for Christmas they added a few wrapped presents and garland in the webs- odd! read more
