It doesn't get any more authentic than this! So far this has been the highlight of this road trip. Refried beans were on point. No Tex-Mex here. Home made corn tortillas, and avocado on the side. You're not going to believe this. $2.50 for my beans, $0.39 each for the tortillas, and $1.50 for the avocado! My meal cost about $5! Husband got a vegetarian burrito. Filled with rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado. His cost $6.99 and it was huge! I would come back to Walla Walla just to come to Dora's Deli to eat. A very interesting place. You can buy worms or you can buy great tacos. A local told us that this was a nation wide famous place. I could believe that it is. The store itself is pretty dingy, there were a couple flies but I didn't see any going into the food.The ladies there are making authentic Mexican food, although they are using a microwave to warm some things up. It's off the beaten track and it will take 15 minutes to get there from the closest winery. But it's worth it if you have the time. read more

Some of the best Mexican food you'll ever find. Seriously. Don't be turned away by the name "Worm Ranch." The food is so good that you'll be making plans to come back before you're even finished with your current meal. Vegetarians: go for the veggie tacos, burrito, or a veggie huarache. Amazing! I personally either order two to three veggie tacos ($2.75 each) or one veggie huarache ($7). I'll get the medium sauce (the hot sauce is just too hot for my taste) and lime on the side. Our annual wine touring visit to Walla Walla is always punctuated nicely mid-day with a visit to one of the taco trucks. This year we were referred here by one staff at one of the tasting rooms and it was...well unbeatable. The food is exceptional, fresh and very tasty. Unlike many Mexican joints that drown everything with too much sauce and a bucket of cheap cheese, here they use real Casa Fresco and they sprinkle on a little bit of a hard cheese that is kind of like Parmesan. I had my favorite dish, a Chili relleno, my wife had a chicken burrito, the other couple with us had enchiladas and tacos. All literally exploded with flavor and freshness. Seriously the BEST and most AUTHENTIC Mexican I have ever had in the states. Every time we come to Walla Walla we have to visit. The food here is decently priced and it is DELICIOUS. This trip I had the asada street taco with beans and rice. It was friggen delicious... The tortillas (I ordered corn) are hand made and they withstand the taco. No falling apart. You get a heap of meat and the usual street taco toppings.... I also ordered me a big ol horchata which they make AMAZING. I live to visit Walla Walla (not just cuz my sister lives here) so I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu from this place. It's a must try! read more

Holy cow, what a wonderful surprise this was! We were in W2 for a wine event and we wanted a quick lunch between wineries and we saw the great reviews, they deserve every one. Yup, it's a mexican joint inside a store that also apparently houses a bait shop. It's awesome. Not a fancy place: order at the counter, get your own fountain drinks, sit down on plastic chairs and they bring it to you. But oh man is it tasty. We lived in New Mexico for a long time and we have high standards for mexican food. This exceeded our standard; a couple weeks later and Cindy is still saying "Man I wish I could get another one of those..." This is definitely a little hole in the wall place with a mini-mart and diner all in one. Authentic Mexican food and it is fresh, local and delicious. It has it's local charms and many newspaper articles about the place hanging on the wall. There are two locations, one in Walla Walla and one in College Place. We went to the one in College Place and I had the enchiladas while the wife had the veggie tacos. Excellent choices and everything is fresh made. It is not the "best" I've personally had, however my wife lived in Mexico during college and I was raised on "home cooked" Mexican food. It's worth finding and trying!! We are visiting from out of state and received a recommendation from a local to grab lunch at Dora's, and it hit the spot! The vegetarian taco was huge! Hubby had 4 different meat tacos to try to sample everything. We would have ordered the posole if we weren't so stuffed! The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food received. The fact that the deli is combined with a fishing bait shop brought back memories of childhood. The food servings are big and reasonably priced. Their vegetarian burritos are the best I've ever had, and I know many students who joke they're going to take a special trip back to Walla Walla just to stop at this place. The Deli inside The Worm Ranch has the best authentic Mexican you'll get. My favorite? The veggie burrito--get it with the red sauce. Amazing. The burrito is about the size of a Chipotle burrito and a reasonable price. They will customize your burrito to your needs. Problem is, their prices are just way too high for what you get, compared with the countless taco trucks and taquerias I've eaten at all over the place on the other side of the Cascades. The meat had no flavor and was dry. I'm giving them 2 stars because it's clean and service good. Not for me. While, they seemed to have mostly solved the fly problem in the restaurant, I can't remove the image of flies landing on food behind the counter from my head. The food is also overpriced. Meanwhile, I simply stopped in for a 6 pack of beer. The beer was spoiled. I attempted to return it to the store. The owner refused to refund my money because one can was missing. They expected me to drive back to the store with an opened beer? Nor, would they substitute it for another type. The beer could have simply been returned to the distributor no questions asked. Popular hole in the wall for good mexican food in Walla Walla. I split tamales and a carne asada burrito with my wife. The burrito was really good but the tamales were all dry which was a bust. Son's chicken taco was very good. Father-in-law swears by the adobodada (SP? something like that). It is a super flavorful pork. Wish we'd gotten that in some tacos instead of the tamales. Everyone else seemed happy with their meals and the taquitos were freshly made and looked great. Worth a visit for sure.
