I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

Reference this review and request her honest consultation for your intended style before getting a cut; I can almost guarantee you will be amazed by the end result. However, what ultimately made me leave a review was what Ai did NOT do. It was the fact that she advised me NOT to get a perm that day. I color my hair and I want it to look beautiful and NATURAL. Thats what you get when you go and see Jenna at Dop Dop Salon. Not only is she professional, kind, cool and saavy, she is truly an artist when it comes to coloring hair. She specializes in the Balayage technique which is basically painting your hair. I have never gotten so many compliments in my life about my hair! Jenna is efficient but always takes the time to really find out what you want. I am a natural dirty-blonde and like to lighten my hair a few shades, but this fall when I was getting bored with the same old look we agreed to go strawberry blonde, and it looks gorgeous. I swear Jenna can do anything, if you want to make your hair blue, she will make it the most beautiful shades of blue that flatters your look. And I really trust her because if she doesn't think something will work on you, she'll tell you; I never have to worry about a bad idea on my part turning into a disaster, because Jenna takes really good care of me! I hate to rave too much, because I am selfish and want to keep her all to myself. But, Jenna always makes me look beautiful, and as a thank you I've got to spread the word. She NEVER dissapoints! As for the rest of Dop Dop's staff, I've never had an issue there and I really like the whole salon in general. The receptionists are professional, the assistants are all really friendly and give great scalp massages. I'm always offered water/soda/a glass of wine. Noelle is a great stylist, whenever I need a cut I go to her and she does a wonderful job. I hope they are in business for a long long time. read more

Nancy Casiano-Zenna is an amazing hair stylist DOP DOP, and she absolutely did the most amazing job on my hair I have ever had done. I've had all kinds of things done to my hair --- but nobody has ever really taken the time to listen to me and give me exactly what I need. Nancy is intuitive, talented, and dedicated. She makes sure you are 100% happy, and she makes that her job. I came to Nancy because I loved how HER hair looked --- sexy and natural. I've struggled with single-process blonde....box-color blonde....the whole deal. She sat down with me and we looked through magazines together. She is so light, and friendly, and gracious -- I totally trusted her. Nancy restored my natural hair color (light golden brown) and added two rounds of ash-blonde balayage highlights. The result is STUNNING -- like woven gold, and shockingly NATURAL --- back how my hair looked as a kid after being in the sun all summer. It's designed to grow in really well too, which is great b/c I don't want to have to have touch ups at the salon every 3 weeks. This I can touch up every few months or so. I'm thrilled when I look in the mirror. I'm an NYC ashion photog, and my presentation is critical. What a fabulous investment. I've finally found a stylist that gets me. read more

I do not review things, post or blog but I owe it to Lori Zabel at Dop Dop to write this. I am a native New Yorker and uber groomer (hair, color, wax, eyebrows, makeup, nails) and have been to the best in the business and happily always get compliments. I get my hair cut & colored every 4-6 weeks always have something new. I followed stylists from Bumble, to Oribe, to Job Frieda and Warren Tricomi. Lori at DopDop has been doing my cut & color for several years now and I LOVE may hair. I am so happy when I look in the mirror, people stop me to tell me how fantastic my hair looks. I was at a holiday party for my industry last night and people kept coming up to me- to tell me how much they loved my hair! The photographer took my photos for free because he liked my hair. Crazy! And Lori is a true professional. I am easy as I tell her to do whatever she wants but she consults with her clients, gets to know them and makes sure she gives them a fabulous and up-to-date look that will make them happy. She does not impose her creative wishes on a client. Do yourself a favor and put your head (or at least your hair) in Lori's capable hands. read more

I have been seeing Deborah Novick for many years and was thrilled when she joined the creative team at Dop Dop Salon. The salon is beautiful - very "now", and the staff is super accommodating and friendly. Deborah has been the sole provider of my color and cuts for about 7 years. She is just she's amazing! I am a restless style seeker - pretty much wanting to re-invent the wheel every time I see her. She has seen me through many phases - long, short, blonde, brunette - and everything in between. She makes strong recommendations for what works best for me and helps me achieve my far-reaching hairstyle goals time and time again. She also took care of my hair & makeup needs for me & my bridesmaids on my wedding day... and I have never felt more beautiful. She glammed me up, but I still looked like ME. Truly couldn't have asked for more. Utter perfection, if I do say so myself. I trust Deborah completely and I always get compliments on my hair (so much so, that many of my friends are now Deborah loyalists too). All in all - glowing reviews for Dop Dop & for Deborah! The main reason I go to Dop Dop is because a great friend of mine, Melanie, is a stylist there. I can honestly say that in my 25 years of life she is the only stylist I have ever let cut my hair more than once. I've always had problems with haircuts. No one had ever taken the time to consider my daily routine and personal style the way Melanie has. You can tell by her consultations and the time she spends on the cut that she really cares about what she is doing and will not allow you to walk out of the salon disappointed. She has been cutting my hair for about 2 years now and I have given up on trying to figure out what style I want- I just leave it up to Melanie because I trust her that much! On a side-note, the salon itself is great. I love the atmosphere; I don't ever feel uncomfortable or out of place, which is very important to me. I've been to other salons where the staff treats you like you are beneath them, and this is definitely not the case at Dop Dop. My first experience at Dop Dop was quite wonderful... it's very easy to find right off the F train. Making an appointment was easy, and there was almost no wait at all. Everyone who worked there was friendly, and very attentive. I could not be more impressed by the actual salon, it was very modern and sleek. Every stylist seemed to have a different personality and their own personal style, which added nicely to the whole experience. Melanie Neal was the stylist who has been cutting my hair for years, she's awesome. I used to have long hair, and I trusted her to chop it all off without any directive, and she made me look fabulous. She's very intuitive, and she knows how to style your hair to complement you... She also takes time to explain how to style your hair at home, which is something very important to me. There was not a time I went to her that I couldn't reproduce the same look on my own. She takes her time to really perfect the look. I would really suggest going to Dop Dop any time, and ask for Melanie she's great! read more

Words can't describe how excited I am to be back in the hair-care of Fallon Fitzpatrick! Fallon is amazing and intuitively zeroed in on exactly what I wanted with my color (I am very particular with my hair color and highlight placement). I was instantaneously thrilled with my color (which by the way, is a deep eggplant with large chunks of strategically placed blonde highlights) and its intensity lasted much longer (about a solid 5 weeks) without much fading. Fallon is so knowledgeable about hair on every level - and she will let you know the best strategies for your hair type, health and lifestyle, without pushing anything on you that you don't want. The salon is very welcoming and the staff are extremely attentive. I was immediately offered refreshments (wine, tea, water) and Fallon was all ready for me so there was no waiting. I've been torturing my hair for as long as I can remember. I am very particular about who does my hair because of the constant processing I put it through. I used to fly home every 5 weeks to get my hair done! Long story short, upon a recommendation from a friend I ended up at Dop Dop with Jay as my stylist. I can't say enough positive things about the care at which she took to rescue my hair and plan a strategy for my hair's return to health. After a few months, I have to say I have never been happier with my hair, color and cut. Dop Dop is also in a great location and has really convenient hours. I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Jo, the owner of Dop Dop, for over 22 years. I used to go to Jo when she was at colorist at Jon Dellaria, before she opened Dop Dop in 1996. In my opinion, Jo is the best in the business. It comes as no surprise that such a meticulous colorist and stylist, would run nothing short of a top notch salon. Dop Dop is a warm and inviting environment and the staff is exceptional. I can't even count how many times people have commented on my great color and cut and have asked for Dop Dop's contact info. And so many friends and acquaintances-- some of whom I have lost touch with over the years-- have become loyal clients that I get updates on how they are from Jo when I come into the salon. I got my hair colored by Jo last Tuesday. On my way home, TWO people stopped me and asked me where I got my hair done. That is the best compliment I can give this salon. When strangers on the street glimpse at you for one second and notice how great your hair looks, notice it to the point where they stop you on the street...it is the greatest feeling. Jo knows her color, she knows how to compliment your skin tone to the color of your choice. The atmosphere at the salon is very pleasant. The staff is very attentive from the minute you walk in the door. Plus, it is the kind of place you feel comfortable in no matter who you are. You don't have to be some hipster to go to Dop Dop. I had the best experience with Dale who does wonders with a scissors and is an expert at blow outs. However, I had the worst experience with one of the colorists that many of the other reviews thought was great. She was very nice (so I don't want to mention her name), but has no idea what blond means. I am blond and have always been blond, not red, not yellow. I explained in great detail I wanted my hair to be similar to what it was, ash with white highlights and emphasized NO RED or YELLOW. I left with copper hair and drove home in tears. The closest to a compliment I got was "it doesn't look awful." At least 10 people asked me why I decided to go red. I am trying a different colorist today and hope my experience is better. Otherwise, I am off to look for a new colorist and cutter. read more

I am one of those selfish-types who never write glowing reviews lest they make my favorite restaurant/dentist/mechanic even more impossible to book. If Jay were merely the bonafide hair-genius that she is, I would stick to my grinchy ways and deny her the props she rightly deserves. However, she is also one of the finest damned people I have had the pleasure of knowing in this tricky city of ours, so I happily tell you: book her. Now. Before she blows up and gets her own television show. The nuts and bolts: she takes her craft very seriously, the other stylists clearly respect her, she is professional, impossibly kind, an expert in (and instructor of) balayage (the highlights that make JLo and the like look so sun-kissed), and just a fun person to spend an hour with. read more

I've been going to Dop Dop since 2015. The reason I keep coming back is because Jo and her team are welcoming, professional and work MAGIC with hair color. The best part is Jo makes sure you absolutely love your hair before leaving her chair. There was a short break in my regular appointments when I briefly lived in London. While in the UK, I struggled to find anything that came close to the experience and quality of Dop Dop. After some panicked messages, and some dismal hair color fiascos, Jo talked me through exactly what I needed to ask for while abroad. I'm so passionate about the services done by Jenna Viney at Dop Dop that I'm dedicating my first Yelp! review ever to this master colorist. She is an artist. I have been going to her for two years as my colorist for my half-head highlights, and will never stray. She applies L'Oreal INOA color in a technique that can be described as hair-painting: seriously "painting" one lock of hair at a time to give it a truly sun-colored look. She gives sharp, studied and clear advice about the health and beauty of your hair, and she's down to earth. She loves her dog. She consults with you and listens before starting in. A friend recommended Nancy to me for balayage highlights (which I had never heard of before) and a cut one year ago, just two weeks before my wedding day! I was nervous because I really wanted something natural. Not only was I pleasantly surprised, but Nancy made my hair look better than ever. I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair now. Also, I am one of those pony tail, on the run kind of gals, so I love that I don't have to do anything and my hair looks great just because of the way she cuts it! Nancy also cuts my husband's hair now too, and he's never been happier with his hair cuts. She absolutely knows her stuff and I HIGHLY recommend her. Plus, the salon itself is very cool and very NYC. read more

When I first came in for my consultation my hair was a mess from coloring shampoos/sprays, & Vanessa assured me she could fix it. Vanessa is also really knowledgeable about hair care, & products, & has introduced me to a line that I am now obsessed with. Everyone at Palms was lovely, friendly, & helpful. I've been going to this salon and more specifically Katie Ferrell for almost two years now. I…read morestarted out going in simply for a blowout after a surgery when I couldn't wash my own hair. And then went in for some blonde highlighting (which were phenomenal) after trying somewhere else that left me unhappy. Katie fixed me right away. Then when I wanted to go back to more of my natural brunette Katie didn't blink an eye. She's been giving me amazing depth and rich browns for the last year and I'm impressed every. Single. Time. She's efficient with time, offers unique and engaging conversations and makes you feel extremely welcome. The salon space itself is lovely. Great drink amenities if you need, some of the most comfortable shampooing chairs and conveniently located. I'll be a customer for many years to come.

Haim Hazan is an amazing blond hair colorist!!! He's also a very friendly and generous person. :)…read more It was months into COVID times (End of August) and my usual hairstylist had left the city. I was sooo desperate to have my roots fixed and hair trimmed before going on a trip, but going to a new salon as a blonde can be daunting. I booked very last minute and was able to get an appointment within a few days which was awesome. I felt comfortable in the salon with the extra precautions in place for COVID (Only 1 other client and stylist were present in the salon). Once there, Haim knew exactly what needed to be done to my hair. I ended up getting a full foil and trim, and it was a relatively quick experience compared to other salons. My hair felt so soft, fluffy and healthy after, and it stayed like that for a few days. Haim told me that he uses only top-shelf products and I could definitely tell. I am still so happy with the results! It's been about 1 month since I came to Lifestyle Salon and my roots are growing out in a way that is a lot less noticeable than some past experiences I've had with other blond colorists. As someone who has gone to numerous salons across the country- you can tell when someone has experience like Haim and really knows what they're doing. I'm grateful to Haim for doing such a good job with my hair and I look forward to coming back again!
