I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

And what a fortunate thing I was, because I have now found my new go to person for all hair related needs. I highly recommend Ai for your stylist. Her attention to detail is superb and it is apparent she is a perfectionist as she even requested to trim my eyebrows to balance the cut against face shape. Reference this review and request her honest consultation for your intended style before getting a cut; I can almost guarantee you will be amazed by the end result. However, what ultimately made me leave a review was what Ai did NOT do. It was the fact that she advised me NOT to get a perm that day. She recommended it would be better to grow out my hair longer for the intended style. What refreshing honesty that prioritizes the best for your client instead of upselling any unnecessary service. I walked into NewHair with a quarter life crisis and a bowl cut. I came out 1.5 hours later having realized my full potential as a Temu BTS member, with the best haircut I've had in New York City. Thank you, Ai.

I nearly fell asleep in the chair and woke up with the job done. It's very pricey but I was comfortable the whole time. So, great service but expect a sad wallet if it's not in your price range. That said, pretty standard pricing for the location. If you're going to bleach your hair, you'd probably get the most out of it by trying a funky cool color but I just like the natural look. I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. On top of that, they charged me for a haircut I never asked for. During the balayage, the stylist cut/thinned (no idea what he did because he never asked me) some of my hair (maybe 10 "snips"?) and they later charged me an additional $70 for the "haircut." This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

I thought no big deal and waited on the couch. It wasn't until 10:30 when I sat down in the chair and she told me that I didn't have enough time booked to get my service that I booked done. I would only have time for a crown highlight (not even a partial) and a toner. I was expecting to receive the service that I booked. It is not my fault that the receptionist didn't book the right amount of time and that she was running late. Even with "not having enough time" the appointment lasted 3 hours and I left with the intention to have to go to another salon to get a full highlight done. My advice, save your time and money and go somewhere else.

I've been coloring my hair for years, so I definitely don't have the healthiest hair to begin with. Charles understands my hair, knows exactly how it processes, and never rushes the coloring process. He takes his time with every step to make sure my hair stays healthy while still achieving the results I want. Over the years, he's earned my complete trust.
