I bought a couple dozen for the sales department--this was my first visit. The donuts are smaller and about double the price of Looney...and worth it! I don't know how they do it, but they are an absolute flavor explosion! Looney is still way better than all the big chain stores and I still recommend them highly, but there's a flavor to the Donutown donuts that definitely dials it up a notch. I'll update my review for taste once we get home. I'm super disappointed with this place. First time here. New to the area so looking for a local community donut shop. Note: there is no official website to check out what they sell, it was 9pm and there was no line/people other than us. We came in not close to counter checking out what were our options. We are greeted with the demand for how many we want and what kind. We let her know that we need time and that it is our first time there. She tells us to let her know when we are ready but not before she was like telling us how tired she is and that we should pick from home and that it was basically impossible to order individual or a mix of donuts and paczki's. Mind you, there is no website next to yelp pictures to see the menu and donut shops are known for seasonal changes. Next we figure out what we want, but quantity is still in question. We came in about to buy dozens of donuts. We left with eight. When she came back out she was still rude. I chose my donuts, then as my husband was choosing she kept saying rude side comments about us not knowing what we want and her being tired. Again we were in there for less than ten minutes. She was crazy impatient. And no one else was in the store! My husband stopped ordering and before we could pick our next donut we cut our losses. I've worked at a bakery in New York time square and have seen more patience with customers especially at 9pm! We felt badgered to order. My husband, the most patient guy in the world, felt the same. He didn't get what he wanted ultimately because he felt uncomfortable. Really sad experience. What made it worse was once we were at the register I think she picked up on my horror at the experience because it seems that she was attempting nice but by then it just felt ingenuine. Update on taste: Donuts tasted fresh and delicious but won't be back. Fresh can be done elsewhere but service was key for us. If you can deal with being disrespected for donuts then do it! Also this was one person. So I would suggest if she is the owner or baker that they keep her in the back. We are still in shock because there were such good reviews on customer service, but we are quite chill people and had this really off-putting experience. read more

First visit yesterday and I was so impressed. I typically go to Looney Baker in Livonia because it is closer to me (and I still like them), but Donutown is GOOD. Donuts are better than a lot of places. I got the maple and honey dip. So soft. So fluffy. Delicious and not overly sweet. Simply put, I won't go anywhere else for doughtnuts in the metro Detroit area. I've been coming to Donutown since I was a kid, and for cake doughnuts in particular, I have yet to find a tastier example of the ubiquitous fried treat. Sure, it's kind of a dive. Its location, just steps from the Redford Police Department, is cliche enough to make you giggle. But the mostly-Asian staff are friendly and helpful and always happy to serve up any of the wide variety of doughnuts they've got on tap. My high school chums and I will always make a point out of visiting this place when I'm back in town. You can fill a box with doughnuts representing every flavor in the palette for a nice price, then go home happy. If a fresh batch is available, the staff will even grab you one of the just-made doughnuts so you can eat it while it's melt-in-your-mouth hot. Oh yeah. They also serve flavored coffees, but I don't drink coffee -- ugh -- so ask someone else about that. They used to be open 24 hours, but I believe their current hours are 5 a.m. to midnight. My friends and I call the place "Donut-own." It's a sort of an in-joke, and yes, we're nerds. But it's also true -- because these doughnuts do indeed own. read more

Meijer's have a peculiar after taste to theirs. You can get them just sugared. If the dough is really good you don't need to disguise it with lots of crap, but you can get crap on it too. This is not a chain donut shop. It's old school with old decor and brown tile floor. There's old men drinking coffee at tables by the window and a counter with spinning stools to sit at. And most importantly, there's really good donuts. I stopped here by chance and am ashamed to say that though donuts are my fave food, I usually get them from my local chain shop from Canada. I can't wait to taste the difference in all I got, but for now I'm eating the butter creme. It is what it sounds like. Its fatty and creamy and covered in powdered sugar and I'm in heaven. They have all sorts of flavors like coconut creme and jelly sticks, three different apple donuts and a blueberry cake. I ordered a coffee, which honestly tasted like a coffee I could make anywhere but I'm here for the donuts. So why not five stars you ask, because a dozen donuts were $8.75 and even if that's the going rate, I still remember when donuts were $5.25 a dozen. read more

Sometimes you just need DONUTS! You know its not the best decision but if you gotta do it, then why not splurge on something delicious and made with passion. The little shop was super cute, the girl who helped me out was friendly, and patient with me being new to that place and not much of a donut connoisseur after all. There were so many tasty options. The only thing i didn't care for was the raspberry jelly filling, but i think i just dont care for that type of donut anymore and not anything this place did wrong in its making. I sat there bewildered at the assortment of UN Tim Horton like donuts- perfectly imperfect-handmade fresh. Wa gave me the Donutown Sacraments of fresh coffee and apple fritter. The business was clean with a nice atmosphere. The guy serving us (owner?) was really nice and filled up my water bottle for me. Surprisingly good donuts, and very pleasant service! The butter cream filled makes krispy kremes (who?) seem a JOKE. The chocolate iced with sprinkles, which I thought would taste as, well-cheap, as it looked, was OUTSTANDING quality to the taste buds; seriously, I felt stupid for regretting its purchase before I bit into it. The cruller was almost as good as Dutch Girls- almost. The double chocolate was just okay, but I've found another donut location to address that concern. The Donuts aren't as fresh as they used to be. Maybe the owner is tired... But I've been consecutively for years and I know how fresh they used to be compared to how they are now. They taste 4 to 5 days old now. I also don't see as many people there as I used to see either so maybe they are fed up with the old donuts as well. Also either she raised her prices from 0.85 or she up charged me due to lack of customers.
