Ordered 156 donuts over phone in advance and the day I arrived to pay in cash. The environment was warm and friendly early in the morning. This is definitely gonna become one of my staple spots I regularly go to. Donutown has a nice cozy Homie diner vibe to it. They have a great cup of coffee and there were also a few more other donuts I tried. Coconut Cream - I was expecting the cream on the inside to be coconut-flavored cream, but it turned out to be just a regular custard, but still overall this was a solid doughnut. The coconut was more on the outside, where I had coconut-flavored frosting, sprinkled with coconut shreds. Honey Dip - this reminds me of just a solid glazed yeast-raised doughnut, but I did taste a little bit of honey in the glaze (that was the only difference). I understand that there are strong opinions about donuts and I am about to weigh in. Donutown is for my money the hands down best in the state. I've tried a lot of places that made rankings and while they are often very good they still come up a little short of being the best. The kicker is that I really can't pinpoint what separates these from the others except for the dough. It's lighter with a satisfying flavor that brings us back. The icings are not as sweet as some shops and I appreciate that since I feel that it's easy to over sweeten and compromise the overall palette. So the owner has the signs up for mask required upon entry but doesn't enforce this. Literally serving a customer that had no mask, saw the signed and didn't care when I asked the owner if they actually enforce the mandate. Normally, the go to spot but after this experience: I'll be going to Looney Bakery in Livonia only. My wife and I crave a chocolate dipped French cruller and with our local Looney Baker not making them anymore we made the trek to the highly recommended Doughnut Town in Redford at Beech and Five mile. There was a brisk business there and I squeezed in an order for six chocolate crullers. Nine dollars and seventy five cents. I thought a little high but they were dipped in a lovely milk chocolate instead of the dark. OMG were they good! Worth the price. We will have to try the many other offerings at a later date. Well worth the ten mile drive. My next attempt will be Paris Bakery on Joy rd. We will see. read more
