Most of all, there were very accommodating. I asked for a mocha, it's not in the menu, but she made one for me anyway. It was a little sweet for me (really tasted great but I was worried about my sugar intake, ha ha, in a donut shop!?!), she poured out some hot cocoas and added more coffee. So, is the owner "rude" or "the best"? So strange to see such a wide range of views on the owner's disposition. Anyway, based on my experience here, this place is awesome. I only learned about the amazing donut places across California a few years ago, so anytime I'm in the state, my wife and I always grab some donuts. Now please, do NOT get Dunkin' or any fancy artisanal donuts when you are out here. Places like Donut Tyme are what you are looking for. Especially the maple bar, which I have yet to see any reasonable copy of in New York. So freakin' delicious, practically melts in your mouth. As for the ambiance, yes, it's not a fancy cafe-type place. But the woman serving us (I believe she's the owner) was very friendly. And there were two older men sitting there just talking, and we had a great conversation. So I've loved the vibe of locals coming here, sitting for a while, and eating delicious donuts. The elderly couple that owns this shop have been around for a long time. Located in a very busy strip mall location, it's has a lot of walking traffic in and out of here. Donut Tyme is in a great location right next next door is a UPS mailbox and dry cleaners, pet hospital and car wash with gas station, Carls Jr. and Ralph's. The donuts are in various styles and shapes for your eating pleasure such a huge selection to choose from !!! Was in the area on business to get mail. Decided to stop for a fast donut and drink. Outside has about 2-3 tables and chairs. Inside is small with only 1-2 tables and chairs. Coffee is always on and fresh and the donut I had was still warm (1:15pm.). They also have lottery and scratchers. Past winners at the location !! A very HARD WORKING family deserves a lot of recognition... The day I went in there (Saturday) there was a younger person behind the counter and it was the son of the couple and he was able to step in and help. I usually enjoy visiting mom-and-pop donut shops and supporting local small businesses. However, this is one business that does NOT prioritize nor weigh the importance of customer service despite being in the food SERVICE industry. Considering how all the recent reviews about this place pertain to poor customer service, Donut Tyme does not seem to acknowledge their issues. First of all, this place is CASH ONLY, and like the other reviews, that sign is barely visible from the outside (if at all). I get that merchants are charged excessive fees for processing card transactions. Fine, cash it is. I was helped by a more elderly woman, who seemed to be the business owner, around noon and asked for half a dozen of donuts. She began putting the donuts into a box instead of a bag (which is usually used for smaller orders) and essentially tried to upsell me by stating repeatedly that I had told her I would be ordering a dozen donuts, which is why she pulled out a box. I just assumed she's an elderly woman probably with difficulty hearing. Fine, my mistake; I should have repeated myself before she pulled out the big box. Instead of just handing me the 6 donuts in the box, she took all the donuts out and placed them into a small bag, which I found odd. I then requested if it would be possible to have an extra bag so I could split the 6 donuts into two separate bags instead of one small bag that she handed me. She ignored me at first, so I repeated myself again assuming she just didn't hear me. "Could I have a separate bag for this?" I asked again. She blankly stared at me and at this point the other customers waiting behind me in line chimed in, "he's asking for another bag," they said. The owner rudely replied, "why do you need another bag?" and refused to provide one. Ladies and gentlemen, I was really nickeled and dime for a bag. A small bag costs less than a quarter at nearly all retail stores in the US, and less than a penny to import. Not only was I nickeled and dimed for a bag but I also witnessed the owner chase down an impatient customer across the parking lot for a $2 coffee that took too long. I've been coming to this shop for years and I have no complaints. I used to come here before when I was at UCR so I could eat my donuts at my morning lectures (it's really close by the school!) And after all these years I continue to go here because they are really kind and they always have soft, yummy donuts. I'm always there in the morning and the owners and the ladies that help me out are always happy to help. They only take cash (as MANY donut shops do), but there is an atm if you get caught without any or there's a Bank of America across the way. Great service, yummy donuts. Every time I come to this place there is an issue. They do business as they please, change the rules, times, whenever they want. It is 8:30. Doors close at 8, but they close at 10. The first time and the older Asian guy was very rude. Didn't greet me at all, I had to say," HELLO!" Asked for half a dozen and he stacked everything in a bag. The attendant is very rude, this guy is in a bad mood most of the time, always complaining about having to go to work after attending the donut shop. In every large plaza in California you are 9 times out of 10 bound to find a mom 'n' pop donut operation and this is the best in Riverside. Especially when compared to our franchised choices of Winchells or Yum Yum~ these donuts are freshly baked throughout the day and don't dry out. Not to mention customer service is great- they open the store at 4am even if just for a few of their early morning risers who want a cup of Joe, a bearclaw, or a bagel before they head off to work. I have yet to try the donuts, so keep that in mind. My experience was an okay one. My friends and I came to grab a bite to eat after we dropped off stuff at the UPS Store. My friend got his order and then the girl looked at me and then ignored me. T_T I asked for my order but she couldn't hear me so it got awkward.
