I'm not sure what everyone loves so much about this place. Everyone keeps telling me they are the best donuts in Chico. Maybe its because they know the owner, just like every other place in this tiny town. I have been in a few different times and the variety of donuts they offer seems small compared to the donut wheel a mile up the street, who offer a wider range of selections to choose from. They only make crullers on Fridays aparently. Too bad there arent any hot hand dipped donut shops in town or these places would go out of business. And Im not talking about crispy cream. I loved this place for donuts until today. I came for a donuts for me and my little boy. My total came up to almost $8. They have a $10 minimum purchase for card policy. They have obliged me in 2 other occasions when just missing the minimum by a dollar or two. They then offered to charge my card the full ten and right me a gift card. No thanks I traveled from corning to have this donut, I don't come here enough to have a gift card with $2 on it that I will probably lose or forget I have. Now I have a crying 2 yr old. When I moved to Chico a few month ago, I thought I would have to give up the 24-hr access to donuts that I enjoyed by going to The Donut Wheel in Cupertino. Well, I was wrong... Donut Nook is open 24/7 and serves up FRESH, HOT donuts all hours of the day and night. Seriously -warm, gooey raised glazed donuts!! No sad, stale donuts here! This place has been a Chico institution since 1977, and there is a reason. It rocks! To top it off, the service was pleasant, even though there was a fairly long line at nearly midnight on a Friday night. At my old haunt, I had to deal with a bit of a "donut nazi". If you're going to go for it and eat donuts - hit up the Nook. If you really want to do it right, go after midnight when they come out the fryer covered in hot grease. Sure they're still tasty the next morning, but they're already 8hrs old by then. Gotta go at midnight. read more

I love that this place is open almost all night so dessert donuts can be a regular thing! Once, there was a magical night when they had chocolate donut holes. That needs to happen again. My dad and I used to go there before I went to school and get donuts at like 7 or 8 am and that's one of the best memories I have of Chico. Best donuts in town. Just the right amount of crispness on the outside, light and airy on the inside. Always fresh and not overpriced. Update 7/18. So much for not being overpriced. I guess they decided if Starbucks can overcharge for donuts they can too. What was a 60 cent donut a few years ago is now $1.20. Maybe it's not their fault. This is where you find old men reading the Chronicle at dawn, wishing they could still smoke inside, and fat cops at three in the morning getting maple icing stuck in their mustaches. 20 donuts will cost you about $1.50 if I remember correctly. read more

I have never had a donut as fresh as donut nook's. Like wow. There's a window where you can see the dude making them on the spot. You will be absolutely satisfied and if you're not you just plain suck because these donuts are flawless. There's an oldschool arcade machine in the lobby, and they only take cash because they're old school overall, but I appreciate that because it means they pay attention to detail and they make only the best of the best. What's your favorite donut? They'll have the best version of that nice and warm and soft and dense but fluffy all at once. Fucking enjoy, you will not be disappointed. I always stop by to buy donuts here and have been satisfied most of the time. Today I waited in line for over 5 min, the only person in line may I add, only to have the young lady at the front ignore me the whole time. I was never greeted on the way in and although I was on my phone she never really came out of the room where she was loading the donuts back and forth. I waited expecting her to finish and ask me if I needed help. All of a sudden a gentleman walks in and she immediately pops up and greets him and asks if he needs anything as he walked up behind me. I was in shock that she completely didn't acknowledge my presence. For this reason I walked out and will not bring any business back. Very dissapointed...business owners please train your people well. read more

Best donuts I've ever had, hands down. The density of their donuts is perfect; not too light, and not too heavy. I am a big fan of cake donuts and always crave them. Blueberry Old fashioned! Light, delicate blueberry essence, not greasy at all, just pure donut joy. I am generally a maple girl when it comes to donuts. But someone at work brought the blueberry and made me try a bite. My husband and I feasted on some recently when getting into Chico late after a concert. 1AM was when we cruised up, and the woman behind the counter was nice and answered my questions as I pointed at various selections. The donuts are good, but the service is TERRIBLE. this is the 3rd time we went to go get donuts there. The 1st time was on a Friday afternoon, there were almost no donuts left. The person there told us to return at around 11 PM for a variety of donuts since they just started cooking them. We went back at 11:30, yes there were a lot more donuts now but the ladies there who were putting them in the paper bags were acting like they're so annoyed. we just ignored that at the moment. And then we went back again on a Friday night, it was a different lady but the service was the same... Why do they act like they're so annoyed when a customer is buying donuts??? We're gonna try the OTHER donut places, maybe we'll get lucky with their service. (PS: we were polite when we were ordering, there was no line & we paid in cash, no excuse for them to be so rude) read more

The donuts are good, nothing groundbreaking. I would like some more variety, more special concoctions that I could only find here, but I can live without. Donut Nook is great for one reason; open 24 hours. Chico needs more 24 hour establishments!! Especially outside of the small radius around the college, which is where most of the 24-hour joints reside. read more
