First time trying Donut King in St. Louis -- 10/10, highly recommend. You must try their "chop suey" donut; it's the perfect cross between an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll! Honorable mention to the blueberry cake donut -- best my husband and I have ever had, and that's saying a lot since it's our all-time favorite. The chop suey donut was amazing! Also got a Dutch crumb and fried croissant which were delicious. The lemon filled donut could have used more filling, and the cake donut was pretty dry. I went at about 9:30 on a Sunday and they seemed to be sold out of a lot of donuts, so get there earlier if you can. read more

Stopped in on Thursday to grab a "thank you" dozen for clinical staff I have been working with since January. Asked for "random" and they were able to grab donuts that made up an eclectic assortment that everyone enjoyed. They were fresh and they could tell they came from a donut shop and not a franchise. Nice donut shop right off main drag. Easy in, easy out. They have the standards but what I liked was that they offered smaller versions of the big donuts in case you just want to nibble or you're on a restrictive diet like I am. How do you follow up an epic St Charles BBQ dinner? Visit Donut-King! We have been on a 21 day car trip and we're craving donuts of course. The place is set up for efficiency. Boxes are stacked up, the cases are full, and lots of counter help made things rapid fire and quite exciting. You can order ahead and have things ready for pick up. We were in and out and as I was stuffing my mouth I had instant regret that I didn't buy a dozen or two. And after eating on the road for three weeks I don't need the calories. Donut King is an old fashioned spot that covers the standard donut varieties. My glazed was perfect. At Donut King there's no maple glazed pineapple tutti frutti with bacon sprinkles. And that's alright. The glazed was tall, fluffy, sugary goodness and surely as unhealthy as a donut can be. I'll be back to try other varieties. read more

What's that I hear? Why it's angels from heaven and they're crying. Why I ask? They reply, because the best donuts ever made aren't in heaven, they're in St. Charles. Plain and simple these are the best donuts I've ever had, it's always a debate in my head if the glazed are the best or is it the buttermilk? That's the eternal question. You won't find pretentious overpriced donuts here, but you will find an excellent donut. The only downside of Donut King is that if you get donuts anywhere but here you'll be disappointed. I really have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand they're the donut shop that I go to most frequent but on the other I'm never totally satisfied. There's not a ton of option in old town for donuts so donut king definitely fills the void but that's about the extent of it. Their long johns are good but not great, glazed donuts are so-so, cake donuts are pretty decent and their cinnamon twists/knots are underwhelming. One thing I will give them credit for is their chopsuey is both unique and tasty. Honestly, even at 3 stars I'll probably continue to go back until someone else comes in that really kills it in the donut world. read more

Stopped in this am as I was driving through St Charles and glad I did. I had the chopped suey (apple fritter sans apple) and it was terrific. Mine was pretty fresh from the fryer so not sure what it is like all the time, but this was warm, soft, and pillowie like a fresh roll from the oven. Sooo good. Son got a long John and it too was super soft. Will be stopping here again read more

The definition of the small community local donut shop that focuses on quality over quantity. My wife and I live our Saturday morning walks to the Donut-King, and everything we've had from there has been outstanding. My favorite has to be the Blueberry donut, it is only available on the weekends just FYI, but their traditional glazed donuts are just as good. If you're in the old town/ mid town neighborhood in St. Charles you have to stop in for a donut! You will not be disappointed. read more

Mmm!!! Literally talked about the donut I ate this morning....all day! To everyone I could and am currently laying on the couch writing this review and thinking again about it. I love donuts either way but this one was fantastic! Donut was soft and chewy, I got a cream filled which was marshmallow and that made me so happy! The chocolate on top was amazing as well. This is a cash only joint, full of an older population which I so love because you can tell everyone there hangs out together and it's like a family. So happy about this place. Can't wait to come back in a timely manner and try all these donuts!!! This is a MUST. read more

It's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Hwy K in a small strip mall in a more residential area. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted and helped right away. The only problem was that there were so many great looking donuts to choose from that it took us a while to decide. We ended up getting four donuts for the two of us. I chose a red velvet donut along with a cherry fritter. Both were really good, but the red velvet was my favorite. It was very fresh tasting with a light texture, and the cream cheese icing on top was a nice added touch. My wife said her double chocolate donut was a little too sweet for her, but it still had great flavor. As I mentioned, there were many other great options, so we'll likely stop by again when we're in the area.

The line was quick, and I was in and out in about five minutes. Now, on weekends, the line can wrap all the way around the little sitting area because they're THAT busy--and rightfully so because these donuts are delicious! If you need three dozen or more, you can call ahead and they'll have your order ready when you walk in. You just have to stop at the counter to pay, which makes picking up a larger order really easy. This location has a special place in my heart because I remember when they opened in Cottleville back in 2012. I actually watched the Coming Soon banner in front of the store when I drove by to work while I was pregnant. When I went on maternity leave, I would take my brand-new baby there, then sit in the car with her and eat my donut and drink my chocolate milk. It was our little outing together. When I returned to work, I would sometimes treat myself to an Old Fashioned donut on Fridays, and sometimes even the flavor of the day. I don't think they do that any more and I really miss the flavor-of-the-day donuts! One of my favorites was the peanut butter flavor. I've watched this location grow over the years and add more drinks and other options, but one thing has never changed: the donuts are still delicious. Some of the staff members have even been here since the beginning, which adds to that feeling of familiarity and belonging whenever I stop in. Friendly staff, delicious donuts, affordable prices, and a little bit of nostalgia make this one of my favorite places to start the day. Whether you're grabbing a quick dozen donut holes or picking up a big order for a group, Old Town Donuts is always worth the stop!
