I found the workers very respectful and helpful. They shaped the front tree and got so many branches off my roof. What a relief to have those limbs taken off of my new roof. The second time I hired Don's Tree Service to grind down a pesky tree trunk and remove Oleander trees. All the work was done quickly with great and respectful staff. My next door neighbor and I have been using Don's Tree Service several years to trim the branches of my Heritage Elm tree in our two backyards. The service came by a few weeks back but left a number of branches in their wake. I became concerned that the branches were blocking an exterior bedroom door. (My husband is in a walker and would not have been able to access the pathway to get to the backyard). It turns out there were close to twelve branches left in the pathway, some as long as 6 feet. A plant that I have had for twenty years was damaged by the weight of the branches. I am a 67-year-old asthmatic. It should not have been my responsibility to clear the branches. I had them remove 2 large trees from my backyard a year ago. They were efficient and professional in their operation. Even the hard-to-get to branches were expertly roped and severed in such a way as to safely drop without damaging the deck below. They also had a chipper at the curb to grind up branches for a neat cleanup. Best of all, they charged a very reasonable fee for their service. i would use them again. This is 1 out of 2 reviews we plan to write for this company as we still have one part of the project still in the air (as we are waiting to coordinate with another company for a tree removal as part of the tree is going through our fence and the removal of the tree would cause our fence to fall. So, until we are able to fix the fence, that tree stays put!). The first part of our tree project was to trim at least 5 trees and cut down 1 tree in our backyard (one of the trees that was trimmed was a large sycamore that towered over our 2 story home). We were initially worried of having that tree trimmed as most companies said they would need cherry pickers to come into our backyard to trim back some of the branches, unfortunately, we do not have a large enough gate to allow for that. However, Don's tree service was more than willing to work around such issues and actually sent their men up into the tree to cut down the individual branches and had another on our roof to push off any fallen branches. While Don's quote was not the cheapest of all the quotes we got for this project, we were greatly impressed with Robert's (the man who gave us the quote and was also apart of the team that came out) knowledge of all the trees and city codes (specifically the one that related to our sycamore, which we just learned from Robert was a protected Sacramento tree). We thought such a big project would take all day, but Robert and his team worked long and hard and completed such a large project in a few hours. He even offered to trim the Cyprus trees in our front yard for no extra cost. As said above, we plan to use them again when we need our "fence-tree" removed and for any future tree services for many years to come. I saw them working on a neighbors place and asked the supervisor if they give me a quote when they had time. The supervisor gave one on the spot, and even called in the job to his supervisor. I paid more than half in cash to the sup because it was the really hot and they promised to come back in a day to finish the job grind the stump. They didn't stack up the wood or finish cutting the large trunk pieces down either. They didn't come back!!! Now after three weeks of back and forth blaming their "friend" that was doing a "favor" working for them and they have now abandoned the job. This not only is costing me more, but also delayed other work. Not even an apology or call from the "boss!" Do not use them. I have texts for proof if you want them. read more

Wow, these guys are tree butchers. I have two neighbors along my back fence. One of them hates to rake leaves, so at the end of each summer he hires a tree service (Don's today) to cut limbs from his side of the other neighbor's giant 60-yr old walnut tree. They did such a horrible job, leaving the tree lopsided and terrible looking. They just hacked off a few really big limbs on one side. Lopped a few lower branches - leaving half of them just hanging there. And didn't bother to remove some lower dead branches that were in the same spot. The neighbor who owns the tree paid them extra to clean it up and make it look good from her side. I don't think she got her money's worth. I said I needed to know about the health of my tree since it appears to be undergoing sudden death and needs help ASAP. I called Don's Tree Service for an estimate to trim two sycamores that hadn't been trimmed in the 9 years I've lived in this house (yes, I'm a bad homeowner). I decided their quote was reasonable and set up an appointment for them to come out. A couple days before they came out, I decided I also wanted a small palm removed from the front yard. They came out while I was at work and left the estimate at my door. The day before the trimming, I got a reminder call saying they'd be at my house around 8 and it would take approximately 4 hours. They arrived at about 8:05 and got to work. I'd forgotten to move my patio furniture away from the trees, but they moved it safely away for me. I watched them trim the trees and saw tons of branches fall. There was a supervisor keeping the sidewalk and road clear and safe. they picked up all the branches for chipping, and even used a leaf blower in the backyard to get the smaller pieces. They moved all my patio furniture back to where it was originally placed. They also cut down the palm in the front and ground the stump. He showed me that they went as deep as they could, but for some strange reason there was a cement block right next to some of the roots, so they couldn't grind it further. He did spray some poison on it to kill it and keep it from coming back. That was also cleaned up very nicely before they left. Two weeks before they came, I'd planted 2 small crepe myrtle trees in the front. Because one was near some sycamore branches, they placed a tall ladder over the tree for protection. I'm very happy they did because several branches hit the ladder, but not one hit my baby tree. The trees have a great shape now, don't hang precariously over my roof or the street, and I'm not worried about them falling over in the storms I know we'll have this winter. The only problem I have with them is they do not accept credit cards. If they took credit cards, they'd get 5 stars for sure. read more

I am thoroughly impressed and very grateful for Don's Tree Service. Three people - Kevin, Omar and Lester - tamed our monster Sycamore tree quickly and expertly and then cleaned up so thoroughly the yard and roof looked better than before they arrived. The massive tree had huge, hazardous dangling broken branches and its limbs sagged from the weight of overgrown foliage. These guys were super nice, finished the job in about six hours, and the tree looks gorgeous. Although they did the job quickly, they took enough time to do it right. These guys do not just come "lop off the top." Impressed neighbors came to watch them work, and one neighbor even hired them on the spot to cut down a dead tree in his front yard. Kevin was very knowledgeable and gave us some tips to keep the tree healthy. All three men were professional and polite as can be, even while working twenty feet off the ground. Way too expensive. We have a large tree in our backyard we need cut down. I do admit the tree is large but 13000 to cut down a tree is just crazy. If we lived in a neighborhood where taking the tree down must be done carefully avoiding other things around it I may understand but that is not the case. Scheduling was about one month out which wasn't that great, but they must be busy for a reason. They came out with all their equipment and trimmed the trees and cleaned their work up. On one occasion they stopped by unannounced to take measurements. Fortunately we were home, but I didn't much appreciate it. Then, on the day of their appointment, they were scheduled for 11am and arrived at 8:30am. Normally this wouldn't have been a problem, but my husband wasn't home (he made the appointment so that he could be), and I ended up being late for work so I could unlock and relock gates etc. for them. One of their reps was able to come by the house within a day to give us an free estimate to trim our orange tree. The quote was very reasonable, so I called to tell them to proceed with the work. They just completed it about a half our ago. The crew was for thorough, and their leader was friendly as well as knowledgeable in helping determine how much trimming should be done. The tree looks great - they took off a perfect amount, ensuring it doesn't look mangled -- plus they did an awesome job cleaning up. Why four stars instead of five? Minor things, really: First, far as I can tell, they don't do e-mail, my generally preferred method of communicating with service providers. Second, we were expecting them to arrive at 9:30 or 10, but they didn't show until around 11:30 or so and didn't call to say they were running late. Fortunately, my wife and I were at home and didn't have to be anywhere. I had scheduled a service with this company. On the day they were to arrive, I took time off work to make sure they addressed the correct trees. They were supposed to arrive between 8-9am. No one ever showed up. I called multiple times and no one answered the phone. I left two messages. I finally received a call after 1pm. She said both their trucks had broke down and no one could come out. No one ever contacted me to let me know the issues. She said they could book me in another 2 weeks. I told them I was very upset and would be hiring someone else. They said they could take $100 off the price. I will definately use Don's again! And, I'm recommending them to a few friends. The other reviews are correct -- Don's is knowledgeable, quick, does a good job, and very responsive. Cost is reasonable. I found Don's on Yelp. I asked them to give me a quote, and compared that quote to some others. Don's was helpful in arranging a convenient time for me to be home during the quote, so that I could walk the guy through the yard, and show him what I wanted done. He also made several helpful suggestions. Don's was about average price. That said, the cheaper competitors were a little sketchy and flakey. On the day of the trimming, 4 staff showed up, including the crew supervisor. They removed 2 small-ish trees and trimmed 10-12 small/mid-sized trees in about an hour and a half. They also did a great job cleaning up the mess (they had an awesome chipper/shredder they brought with them) and hauled it all away. Cost was about $375 -- and was exactly the same as the estimate. Funny, as Don's staff were finishing up (ahead of schedule), one of my neighbors asked if they could take care of a few of his trees too. The did so quickly, with a quote and everything right on the spot. Overall, the quality of the job is great. Not too much taken off, not too little. And, the shapes of the trees look so much better. The only negative, was that when removing one of the dead trees I had, they accidently hit a water pipe for the sprinkler system. The crew supervisor immediately shut off the sprinkler water (thank goodness he knew how, because I didn't), and notified me. After the supervisor made a Home Depot run, they fixed the sprinkler and turned it all back on. Clearly this wasn't their fault, so i was really appreciative that they took care of it and fixed it. I had used Don's Tree Service in the past and was satisfied with their work. I had to switch to another service that had a boom truck to trim an ash tree with a fracture in a limb but when I needed 2 other trees trimmed, I decided to go back to them. I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED in their trimming of an oak in my side yard. When the estimator came out, I told him that I just wanted it pulled back off of my neighbor's roof. Apparently, there was NO communication with the actual trimmers because within 30 minutes, they had removed at least 6-7 side branches from the first 20 or so feet of trunk. They continued and left me with a Dr. Seuss tree. It still hangs over my neighbor's roof. Every friend and neighbor who has seen the trim job that they did simply can't believe it. One would never know how wonderfully full it looked before their hack job. They BUTCHERED it. And "butchered" was the word used by the woman in the office by way of apology. read more

This company is horrible, I was given a quote of $470 to trim all the tree limbs that are going into my neighbors back yard. They also gave me a quote of $1800 to pull the tree completely out. We decided to just trim the tree limbs that are over my neighbors property. Diane in the office spoke to my husband to make the appointment, he asked her a question. If we can get together $600, how much more work can they do? Her reply was the workers could keep trimming until our $600 runs out. We agreed and set up the appointment, when they got out their they did not do $470 worth of work. They cut 2 branches, and cut/cracked one large branch that hangs over both my yard and my neighbors yard and left. I called immediately and complained to get them back out. That tree limb is dangerous, and my neighbor heard one of the workers said he wished he wouldn't have bit it. I'm assuming he knew he messed up big time. They told me the owner needs to go out and the worker did not feel safe in the tree. If he didn't feel safe why the hell did he start cutting the tree limbs??? They didn't have any answer and they keep telling me they need to call me back. But they don't, I'm done trying to contact them. I'm going directly to the BBB and the state. The lady Diane in the office said we would be getting a refund of $130, that we still have not received!!! Do not use them!! The are horrible and do not do the work they quoted you. UPDATE.... I finally filed a complaint with the California state license board, they took my complaint seriously. Due to hazard issues, Within a few weeks I got a full refund from the company. I also filed a complaint with the BBB, if you do use them for whatever reason don't be afraid to file a complaint, if they mess up and refuse to fix their mess up. read more

Called and left message letting them know we would like to use their services, call was promptly returned that evening with a date and time they would come trim our tree. Day of appointment was when we were in the middle of HUGE rain storm, Jon called and asked if they could reschedule due to weather, no problem, and we appreciated the communication. They came a couple of days later when the sun was out, did a fabulous job trimming our tree, and cleaning up after themselves. What a great company from John who gave us the "diagnosis" and the bid to the office folks who the day before reminded us by phone the particulars of our service to the four "tree guys" who did the trimming! Knowledgeable, personable, and efficient only begins to describe them. They told us what they were going to do, why it was important to the life of our trees and then gave us the long term plan for keeping our trees healthy.
