First time diners. We live in the area but have driven by for 20+ years... Visited the pub after hearing good reviews of their burger. Happily found bar seats at 6pm on Saturday. Service was pleasant but very slow. Really enjoyed my cocktails. Brussel sprout appetizer also delicious Burger 2/10. Ordered medium, arrived well done-- dare I say, burnt. Bun was so charred I pulled the dry patty off and doused in ketchup. What was most concerning to me was that in the 90 minutes we were seated I watched two glasses get broken behind the bar, over top of the ice bin. The ice bin was never emptied. This is basic protocol per health department and osha safety procedures. I sincerely hope that the management sees this and uses this opportunity to retrain staff on protocol--- as a public health practitioner who has spent many years in hospitality this is a huge red flag. read more

My first time eating here. Went for a friends birthday dinner. Totally fancy, totally fine dining. I didn't feel good taking many photos during the elegant dinner but I took a couple. Super elegant, super charming. Food was fantastic. Wine was fantastic. I ordered a seafood chowder which was unreal and I had the rack of lamb. Super moist, super tasty. Came with Risotto and asparagus. If you are in need a very elegant dinner, highly recommend this place. Wardrobe is business attire. They do offer a downstairs "Tavern" which has the look of almost an old English /Irish pub. It's a lot more "chill" and offers different menu items. The price is what you would expect for fine dining. The service was quick and professional. Very intelligent, and respectful. A nice historical building/ house in a beautiful setting. read more

This place is always top notch, though I was a bit disappointed in my selection being sold out, even though they had only been open for 30 minutes when we ordered. Came in at 5:30 on a Saturday night for the advertised clam bake. One option was with chicken, one with lobster. Wanted the lobster, but apparently they didn't order enough on Friday so it wasn't on the menu. Got the chicken instead. Don't get me wrong, it was DELICIOUS, maybe some of the best chicken I've had in a long time, but it doesn't swim off the coast of Maine very well. Now, let me tell you about the clams. They were Outstanding! No sand, reasonably sized, not chewy, and bathed in the most delicious broth. Glad I ordered an extra dozen. Didn't even need the drawn butter. Wife and nana both had the scallops, though nana wanted the burger which wasn't available to the dining room crowd. We also asked for their signature eclair, but I think Fragapanne stopped making them years ago, so we went over to Mitchell's for some delicious ice cream to finish off the night. Our server was fast and friendly. Food came reasonably fast, though the loaf of bread, which was the best fresh baked bread in NE Ohio, has been replaced with slices. Still warm and tasty, just not the same. And lastly, as a testimony to their most excellent customer service, I got a call on my cell phone before we even left the parking lot saying nana left her purse in the floor. Nicely done! read more

Fantastic client dinner at Don's. Charming historic location, with a gorgeous dining room. Got a drink from the bar before dinner, service was a little slow, they had just opened for dinner, but the drinks were great! Our server for dinner was a delight, she checked on us enough to be kind and unobtrusive. Appetizers were Brussels, and whipped ricotta. They were both top notch. For dinner we had filet and our guest got the strip. Everyone loved their food. We took dessert to go, the creme brulee was outstanding! Highly recommend. read more

It gets three stars because of the history of the place. It has been maintained well and looks nice. When we first walked in, there was a man behind the reception area and he wasn't welcoming in any way. We also couldn't hear him when he said to follow him so most of us stayed behind confused. It took a good while for the server to come out but once she took our orders, everything went smooth and she was attentive. The house salad was really good and I would definitely get that again. The rest of the food (filet, ravioli, fish) wasn't good. It was kind of disappointing because we really wanted to like this place. But overall it's a nice place. read more

I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be good. My husband and I waited 30 minutes for our drinks and then another hour for our meals. The "C.A.B." New York strip he ordered was definitely NOT CAB! And my "6oz" lobster tail was maybe 2 ounces. I complained and they brought me back the same cold, 2 ounce lobster tail with an additional 2-3 ounce lobster tail and it was awful! The second one was dry and actually crispy on the sides! It tasted like it had sat in a warmer for hours. The mashed potatoes also tasted reheated and terrible. This was one of the most disappointing meals I've ever had in a restaurant! I feel like I was robbed of my money. I've had better food and service at McDonalds! read more

Three stars, and the stars have nothing to do with the food. We ate at The Pub, the downstairs area of Don's Pomeroy House, and unfortunately the meal was a major letdown. We ordered three appetizers and four entrées, and every dish missed the mark. The mussels arrived with cold broth, the wings were slightly undercooked and cold, and the shrimp appetizer was only lukewarm. I ordered the special -- a brisket sandwich -- and the meat tasted more like thin roast beef, dry enough that even the barbecue sauce couldn't help. The fries on the side were cold and soggy. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the bartender/server was genuinely fantastic -- friendly, attentive, and the bright spot of our visit. The live music and atmosphere were also great. But the food was incredibly disappointing, and I wouldn't come back to eat here again. read more

Had dinner in the pub. We were able to sit in a very nice booth along the wall. The pub had nice, romantic low lighting. Our server, Bella, was outstanding. She didn't rush us and took our orders and everything was perfect. We both had fish dishes and they were cooked to perfection. The food was nice and hot and fresh. The cocktails were outstanding. This was our second time at Dons. We were able to come in Friday evening for dinner and got the last 2 top available in the downstairs pub area. We got seated at 7pm and our server was prompt with drinks which was nice (as was she!), but after that we ended up waiting 1 hour plus from the time we placed our food order to when our food came out. No one apologized or even mentioned the wait. At one point we looked around and no one in the entire place had food. Then, slowly tables got food and left and new tables sat before we got our food. I ordered the 14 oz NY strip and my husband ordered the burger. My strip steak was cold when it finally got to me. It was served with a very tiny portion of Brussels sprouts that were good and some flavorless red potatoes mashed. I didn't complain because at that point I was starving and just wanted to go home. I got the rest to go and made a salad with the steak the next day. My husband liked his burger and fries - I had a bite and it was good. At least his was warm! I doubt we will be back. read more

I don't know what happened to places like this and Dons Lighthouse over the years but the steaks and fish at the local texas roadhouse blow this fancy place away. Our family (4 adults, one preteen) came here in lieu of a funeral when my mother passed last week. The service was abysmal. The food was less than mediocre. It took nearly three hours to have dinner and dessert. The entrees came an HOUR after the salads! Our server came to the table several times to tell us she forgot our bread (which we did finally get after about 45 minutes.) She didn't even tell us her name! I don't think she ever checked on us, only stopping by when she dropped something off. The busier was more attentive! The food... I'm not sure how a medium rare filet can be dry but somehow this happened. Flavor was not really existent. Mashed potatoes were very chunky, which perhaps is just their thing, but were just potatoes. For the price, I would expect exceptional food and service, instead of Denny's level. I wish we had honored my mother anywhere else. What was already a difficult day became even more of a disappointing memory. Throw your money in the trash rather than wasting it here. If nothing else, it won't take three hours!! read more

Went on Easter. Obviously very busy. Had a nice relaxing meal, it was a limited menu with no-non meat choice & no kids menu. When inquired about pasta or something that did not contain meat, for my 12yr old, we were told "sorry, not on this years menu". So she had Caesar salad for Easter dinner. The menu was online ahead of time and we were aware & discussed that this was a possibility. No biggie. The 3 stars is because when we were leaving we saw a customer with a plate of pasta!?! I'm sad that obviously it could have been a choice for us too had we pushed the issue, or the waitress just had simply asked the kitchen/manager. It's sad that a plate of pasta could have made this 5 stars and had returning customers, but the whole scenario left us feeling very deceived. read more

The kitchen has lost its way. Bland Rissoto was served with all 6 dishes??? Maybe Costco had sale on 50# bags of rice (no effort from the kitchen). Rock hard carrots, but they were tasty. Been several years since we have been here - the Strangs who own the Don's restaurants have declined in food quality and service. Server was overloaded with too many tables. We were one of the first guests at the pub on a weekday during the week of Christmas. We were quickly seated and enjoyed the ambiance of the pub and the Christmas decor. That is where the experience took a turn. The restaurant was extremely under staffed and had a single waitress covering the pub and the bar. It took forever to get our food. Finally, my mother in law went to inquire on the status of the food and was told it was ready and that she would get it to us soon. All of the food was lukewarm. The French dip had soggy bread, the cheese was congealed and everything was sub-par. It was a disappointing experience and we will not hurry back. read more

Very nice restaurant! We had dinner in the igloo, which was very toasty with a little heater. They stated that it can seat eight but we had four in there and it would've been tight with more people and almost impossible for the server to get around. The staff was very friendly. Our server was very nice and did a great job. All of our food was great. The crabcake was the best crabcake I've ever had. The short ribs were great, lamb chops were good but seemed a small portion for the price, the roasted chicken was good. For desserts. we had the chocolate mousse, the crème brûlée, and the pear sorbet - all were yummy. The only reason I took a star off is they do not have a bathroom on their main floor and they only have stairs to get downstairs to a bathroom or upstairs to a bathroom. They do have a motorized seat that goes up the stairs for that bathroom, but I'm surprised they do not have to comply with ADA and put a bathroom on the first floor. Fantastic meal at Don's last night. I attended a group event and realized I had not been back this summer for lunch on the patio, which I think is one of the best in NE Ohio. They also have formal vs. less formal venue options - formal dining rooms are upstairs (I love the one with the booths) and a less formal "pub" (which has great food) downstairs. I've consistently had great service and top quality fine dining here over the years - yesterday was no exception. They had two "fall bake" specials on the menu, one chicken and the other lobster. I opted for the chicken because of the preparation: baked and then lightly pan fried to finish. It resulted in a nice combination of flavors with carmelized skin and moist and tender meat. The bird was delicious! The chicken was accompanied by 8 steamed clams (with butter and garlic), steamed Yukons and corn on the cob. It was a treat. Hopefully the patio stays open for a while yet and I'm not too late to get in another outdoor lunch this year. Picture from last year is included. Will definitely be back! read more

I can't even give this experience one star but it forces you to. I called to see if we could access the Pub with a wheelchair and they said yes. I couldn't find the entrance so I checked with the front desk. They said I couldn't enter after all. Okay, I just wish I would have know before my trip over. I then ran back inside to see if mom (in a wheelchair) could order a burger in the restaurant area because that is what she wanted in the pub. The gentleman at the front desk said... no. He blamed the owners. Rules are rules, but given the circumstances they should have accommodated us. Three weeks prior we spent over $400 there. I am so disappointed with their hospitality. The gentleman (which is a generous name at this time for him) should read Unreasonable Hospitality. They will never see me again. We headed to Dibellas and had a wonderful experience. read more

I was in town visiting family earlier this week and finally ate at Don's Pomeroy House. As a teenager (many years ago), I had always thought this place would be real expensive. This restaurant isn't cheap, but it's also very well priced for the exceptional level of service you are provided and for the great menu Items. I ordered the Surf and Turf which comes with a Six-Ounce Filet Mignon and a Five to Six Ounce Maine Lobster Tail. For sides this dish is typically served with Fingerling Potatoes and asparagus (I substituted for green beans). The filet and lobster are normally priced at $55 for this dish, however on Sunday's and Monday's they run a $10 off special. For $45 this filet and lobster dish is incredible. The steak was cooked perfectly and super tender. The lobster was delicious and melted in my mouth. As for the actual Don Pomeroy's House facility, this place has lots of charm and character. The building is beautiful and for those looking for a nice place to go for a quite, relaxing meal.......this is the place for you. read more

It's been a long time since I've visited Pomeroy House. As my kids are getting older, they're taking more of an interest in food. Since my daughter has a job, she has missed our family's weekly dinner several times in recent weeks. This week, all four of us were available for dinner, so my wife made reservations. Upon arrival, there was no wait and we were seated in a small room in the back of the restaurant alone. It was quiet and cozy and my daughter liked the atmosphere. We were served water and given menus. They had Stella Artois on draft, so I requested one. It was served in a frosted Stella Artois mug, and the beer was very cold, which I loved. As an appetizer, I requested the Seafood Chowder, which had a lot of meaty goodness in it. Coupled with a delicious salad and amazing bread, I was full before I received my dinner. For dinner, I requested the walleye. My son and daughter both requested pand roasted chicken and my wife, lobster. We chatted for a bit and then our appetizers and salads were delivered. The salad was fresh and delicious and the strawberry vinagarette it was paired with was light and delicious. A while later, dinner was served. The portion on my plate was large. There were a lot of brussels sprouts, which were tasty, but a bit hard in the center. The charred outer leaves of the brussels sprouts were really tasty. The sweet potatoes underneath it all were amazing. The walleye had an amazing crispy crust on the outside and the soft, flaky fish was excellent. Loved it! But I couldn't finish it all because I was already full. I ate it for breakfast the next day and it was still delicious. Very good meal and the service was excellent, as usual. read more

A friend and I just celebrated our birthdays over lunch at Don's Pomerpy House. The menu is impressive, the food delicious, the complimentary bread service a very nice touch. Husband and I went to The Pub on 2/13 before the crowd came. Onion soup and stuffed mushrooms were good. NY strip was good. The asiago rice and asparagus were also good. But the potatoes were overdone and slightly burnt. The main issue was the Scallops. Terrible. If Golden Corral offered scallops, they would have been better. The scallops were tiny and breaded like a tater tot. If you took your fork and tried to cut it in half, the scallops pressed down and squished. It seemed like they were frozen and then deep fried. They were small too. They were not pan seared. They were supposed to be pan seared according to the menu. We were unable to send it back to the kitchen because the server said the kitchen was swamped. I was given a piece of cheesecake as compensation. For a $45.00 dinner which featured the scallops, it was a failure. How can I recommend this restaurant to anyone? If you want me back, I need to be compensated. read more

This is a review of the Pub portion of the restaurant. Sat at the bar. Bartender was nice and accommodating. Here is my beef. We waited forever for our dinner. Between the order and the receiving it was more than 25 mins. We ordered a burger and the cheese steak. Both were decent. Fries portion was a bit lacking. I got lots of ends and small pieces. Kinda ripped off. That was a let down. Both the burger and the cheese steak were okay. Large portion of both sandwiches. You cannot eat the cheese steak with your hands it's a knife and fork deal. Prices were okay for the bar menu. And the bartender was nice and friendly. It's a toss up if I'd go back. read more

Just ok. We have frequent this restaurant for many years but it is declining in service and quality, This is my last visit. I ordered a drink from their drink menu that I have had many times and the drink was not made correctly and tasted horrible. Our waitress never came back to our table until our entrees was served. Salads were served by another employee. I told her the drink wasn't what I had in the past. She argued with me and told me I was wrong. I ordered the surf and turf- steak was good but lobster was like a rubber band. Sorry to see this restaurant declining. read more

My wife and I have been here a few times for sentimental reasons. We recently came to celebrate our anniversary. We left feeling disappointed. While the building remains as gorgeous as ever, we were placed at a table directly at the entrance to the dining room. There were several tables still available (some of which remained empty our entire visit), yet we had every person walking into or out of the room passing by us. The service was mediocre at best. I understand that working without a notepad is considered high level service - when you have to come back and ask for reminders about just about everything that is ordered, I'd just prefer you write it down! We were finishing up our cocktails just before the entree arrived and our waiter cleared the wine glasses without asking if we'd care for a wine with dinner. I understand these are small gripes, but when we're at a nicer restaurant, is it too much to ask for equal service? Both my wife and I ordered steaks. When my wife asked for my thoughts, I told her we make better steaks at home. The meat was a nice cut, but it had no flavor. I ordered rare and it came out medium rare and warm in the center. All in all, you can get a better steak at Longhorn for a fraction of the price and the other facets of the visit simply did not make it a place worth visiting again. read more

Love this place!!! My bf and I were in the mood for a good dinner decided to go out at spur of the moment! I called ahead, and while the dining room was all booked, the staff member did let me know that The Pub is first come first served, so we tried our luck. Coming into this place is a nice atmosphere, it has a kind of speakeasy vibe, with a lively crowd but not overly loud inside. Cocktails were delicious, I had a margarita, and David had a Manhattan! Delicious!!! Really well made drinks with no cheap tasting ingredients- like the gross green sour mix that most bars use to make their margs. Just fresh juices and good booze! I'm kind of a snob when it comes to cocktails now, so it's so nice to know i have a good place to go only 10 minutes from my house. We loved their pub menu, and got the seared Tuna appetizer, I ordered mussels and a salad, and he got the chicken Parmesan. Everything was spectacular! We look forward to returning! read more

BEST CHICKEN Yes the headline speaks for itself. We had the folks in town for Easter and had dinner upstairs sat night. Made rezzie & packed at 7:00. Beautiful old hunt club look up. The pub downstairs like a gaming room. Nice old place. Pro waitress. Nice book nook booths off to the side. Pan roasted chicken ($28) so good I cried. See pic. Better than Ruth's Chris. Better than BrickTop's in Naples. Omg I died and went to half chicken heaven. Obviously roasted high temp, very crispy yet moist and delicious. Well seasoned. Fantastic au jus with mashed & green beans. It could not have been any better. I ate it all. A nice shrimp cocktail preceded the entrees. Very large shrimp, high grade. Firm. Very nice. Had a few drinks with the fam that really lightened the mood. Have to say it was getting a bit chippy in the car on the way lol. Our party of 6 We arrived approximately 20 minutes prior to our 4 PM reservation on a Sunday. The male staff coldly greeted us and told us we would have to wait outside or in our cars for the restaurant to officially open. The chairs in the waiting room also had signs stating, "no seating." I understand this was a safety precaution due to COVID-19. However, the unfriendly greeting was not good start to celebrate our friend's birthday. We were Googling other nearby restaurants to visit. However, considering the time on a Sunday, options were few, so we maintained an open mind and moved forward with our confirmed reservation. We initially arrived early to enjoy cocktails on the patio, but the patio was also closed. Our waitress, Ms. Jerry, was very warm and attentive. We all looked at the menu in advance and had an idea of what we wanted to try. A few of the cocktail and dinner options (e.g. lamb chops) weren't available. The bartender was still able to make the drinks not on the menu and there were great dinner specials to substitute the revised dinner menu. So if you look at the online menu, know that the menu may be different. My friend enjoyed her French Onion Au gratin soup, and the empty bowl was proof! The 6-hour braised boneless short rib and asiago risotto was excellent! I substituted the asparagus for green beans. Everyone enjoyed their food--from the surf and turf special (lobster and steak) to the baked crab cake, Don's seafood chowder, and Caesar Salad (Romaine lettuce, parmesan, focaccia croutons, Caesar dressing) Ms. Jerry surprised the birthday girl with a complimentary chocolate éclair dessert that was generous to share with everyone. Overall, I would return for the food and amazing customer service provided by Ms. Jerry. The ambiance was nice. I like the option for patio dining, as well. The building doesn't look like a typical restaurant, but more of a government building. The building's appearance make it a little challenging to recognize, but once we did there was plenty of free parking in the lot. However, Don's Pomeroy House needs to assure all guests feel welcome and comfortable from the start to end of service because there are several other nearby restaurants customers can visit and support.
