Half chicken & beef Plate with half rice/chow mein with side macaroni & potato salad & side salad.
Brenda P.

First time trying this place. Had a craving for teriyaki. Ordered for the whole family. Ordered the half beef/chicken plate with half rice/chow mein. Pros: Friendly guy at the register Cons: -The chicken and beef isn't dry but it does lack in flavor. Seems as if they don't season their meat prior to cooking and the sauce is the only thing that gives it flavor. -chow mein is just noodles no other ingredients -the side of macaroni salad is just undercooked macaroni, mayonnaise, salt & pepper. Nothing else added -the potato salad is literally cold mashed potatoes with salt and pepper. Nothing else added. -side salad is just lettuce w/a drop of watered down dressing (not ranch but I can't taste it to guess what it is) Gave it 2 stars cuz the chicken/beef was not dry & the guy at the register was friendly.

They took my 3 and 6 year old into consideration when seating us. Brought waters to us quickly without asking and even had lids on the cups for the kids. Our server Sakura, gave good insight into the menu, very accurately described the spiciness level when I asked about it. The food is excellent and well priced - everything was delicious. The noodles have great bounce and texture. Generous portions, kids loved it. Will definitely be back with visiting friends and family in the future!

However, the experience and food make it worth considering if you have the patience. The staff is consistently attentive and welcoming, always kind to guests entering and leaving the restaurant, which adds to the overall positive atmosphere. With that disclaimer out of the way, here's my humble opinion of the ramen at Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen. It's okay. When I came here yesterday afternoon, I ordered the Hakata Ramen which is basically a tonkotsu style ramen. Every aspect of it is customizable including the broth, noodles, and toppings. I just went with the default options, which i believe they recommend for first timers. On the side, I got a flavored egg, and pork belly. The broth was solid. It was flavorful, and fatty. The noodles were the right firmness as well. However, the chashu pork and pork belly were pretty mediocre. I know this sounds harsh but hear me out. Even after bathing them in the broth, they were dry and not tender. I didn't enjoy the flavored egg either. It was overly boiled and barely marinated. Despite the shortcomings noted above, I'm still giving this place four stars because the service is fantastic. The staff is very nice and provide incredibly fast service. My drink came out in like one minute. The refill came out even faster. They also offer free refills of the noodles.

This isn't your typical "ramen". I feel like this is very elevated take ok the traditional ramen, cleaner and healthier. I had the tonkatsu, my wife has the shoyu and we got the crispy tuna for free but bought the Karaage. The ramen broth is light, still flavorful but not as salty. The noodles was thick, almost like Chinese style noodles. They did mention there was a thinner one but forgot to offer it to us which is fine. Chashu was very good. The tuna crisp is great as well. The karaage was slightly salty. Overall very interesting ramen spot compared to the rest around Torrance.

But I had heard so many great things about HiroNori that I wanted to try it anyways. My brother especially kept hyping them up, and he LOVES ramen. And I'm glad I decided to try them out! While HiroNori is a SoCal chain, it still feels like a mom and pop restaurant. The crispy rice with tuna was EXCELLENT! Everything you want from crispy rice and spicy tuna. The tonkatsu was delicious! Great depth of flavor. They bring you garlic and spicy paste on the side. I had to add A LOT of spicy paste to get it up to the level I wanted, but while at other restaurants I've lost the broth flavor when adding too much spice, the spicy paste just enhanced the tonkatsu broth. And the pork in the tonkatsu - truly next level. This is probably the best pork I've ever had in a ramen dish. The noodles were also fantastic with the perfect amount of bite. I loved my jammy egg as well. The restaurant itself is smaller, with fun lighting. There is a parking lot which is great. They do not have tipping, instead they have a service charge of a little over 17%. Definitely worth it!

They also provide watermelon infused water, which was perfect for a warm day out. Although this restaurant is quite small, service was fast and very accommodating. I have been here several times and service plus quality of the food never changes! Seats here don't have any back support but it adds to the modern aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant. I've been eyeing the cucumber crab salad, so I look forward to coming back and trying it next time.

Today we decided to revisit the restaurant for old time's sake. Inside, the main wall was repainted with a new mural. The annual LA Marathon posters, pinned by the staff who participated in the events, were also gone. Nonetheless, it retained its traditional izakaya décor with its counter seating alongside some regular tables. The staff were all new but still very courteous and brought the menu and water right away. New items were added but the core dishes remained the same. For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. To complement the set, the gyozas with their delicate wraps had nicely burnt bottoms, and flavorful fillings. Champon Ramen: A complex ramen with an assortment of meat, veggies and seafood. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. The noodles had a very nice texture and were a tad al dente. We were amazed that after all these years, the restaurant retained its original taste and flavor. We found out the reason why while exiting the restaurant: The young cook from two decades ago is now running the open kitchen as head chef. Great food and still reasonable prices. It was totally worth revisiting.
