Since moving back to Cincinnati a year ago, we've taken cars to Donavon's multiple times, but I've never gone to Express Care for an oil change. I did so on Friday and was extremely impressed. I came right after dropping off my son at school; I figured it would be easier for me to just wait there for them to open at 8:00 than to go home for 10 minutes. At 7:55, the guys rolled up the door and motioned for me to pull forward. I apologized and told them I didn't mean for them to open up early! They said it was fine and they were ready to work. By 8:03, my car was done and I was paying the bill. I have never had such a quick oil change in my life. The cost was extremely reasonable for such fast and nice service; I've paid more at Jiffy Lube and not received anywhere near the level of service. I would much rather give my money to a family-owned business in Pleasant Ridge than some national chain, and I can guarantee Donovan's level of service is much higher. When they mean express they mean it - my oil was changed, tires inflated, washer fluid filled and my battery changed (as it was almost 5 years old) in 15 minutes. I brought my car in for an oil change and was in and out in 20 minutes. Charged me 1/4 of what I pay at VW (where I bought my car). Brought my car in on another occasion for an oil leak. Didn't even check tire pressure not sure if they normally do that but everyone else does didn't show me the oil or the change didn't check my filters. Expected a lot more for the price. I go in the waiting room - get settled in for what I assume will be 30 minutes of watching whatevers on the tube. 2 minutes later - they come and tell me I need my air filter changed - yup - good - not a surprise - it hasn't been. 4 minutes later the owner comes in and says "You enjoying the program?" I said, "Oh sure...it's fine." He said, "Well you're welcome to stay - but we have your truck done if you're ready to go." A SIX MINUTE OIL CHANGE PEOPLE!!!! It's like $30 or something - but for a six minute oil change - I'll take it! Also - the location is EXTREMELY clean and well kept. They also own a tire & repair shop across the street. I drive a SAAB, which has some very peculiar engine arrangements, and requires Mobil One 0w-40 full synthetic oil (which would cost $50 just to buy at a parts store). In the past, my options have been to either make an appointment with my (excellent) mechanic and wait for 30-45 minutes at a cost of $115, or go to the national chain oil-change place around the corner and hope that the one guy there who actually understands how a SAAB works is there, wait 20-40 minutes, ward off their add-on sales attempts, and pay $95. But never again. Today, I went to Donovan's on the advice of friends, and WOW! *$85 *15 minutes *Washed the cabin air/pollen filter (that the chain place wanted me to replace for $75). *Noticed the headlamp bulb and wiper blades (that I'd just bought at the parts store) sitting on the front seat and installed both, saving me 45 minutes and bloody knuckles. *Refilled my 2.5 gallon washer fluid reservoir. While this doesn't sound heroic, know that the mechanic doesn't do it at all, and the chain place bitches about how much fluid it takes and only gives me 1 gallon. And it's a local, family-owned business. Win, win, win! read more

Availability - A++ Went to Midas without an appointment at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday - they wanted me to make an appointment for the following day at the earliest. Considering I NEVER get out of work this early, I wasn't going to make it for any of the appointments they had available the next day. I decided to leave and try something else. I pulled out my shiny new iPhone, opened up the Yelp app and searched for oil change places nearby. One of them that came up in the results was Donovan's Express Care. I recognized the name from coworkers talking about taking their cars to Donovan's so I thought I'd give them a try. I called and the guy who answered told me to come right over. I literally pulled into the parking lot and didn't even have my car in park when someone was walking out to greet me. I walked into the waiting area and someone came out to get my information to enter into their system. He walked away and I became busy checking email... I was prepared to wait at least 30-45 minutes because that is what Midas has conditioned me to do. I wasn't even 3 emails in and someone came into the waiting area to tell me they were done. They had filled my tires without my having to ask (which Midas never does); replaced the turn signal light bulb that was out (I had brought my own bulb); they also remembered to reset my oil life computer (Midas never, ever does this, even when I remind them). They were SO friendly from start to finish. All this and I was out the door in about 15 minutes for a total of $42.54... this is more than I'd typically pay at Midas, but the service was better and they did more for me. Worth every penny. I arrived at 5:02 pm on a Friday afternoon and pulled right into one of 2 oil change bays. I was greeted by clean friendly staff members already starting to lift the hood and take a look. After being asked if I'd like an oil change I preceded to the small, but clean waiting room. I got the impression that it would have been just fine if I'd chosen to stay in my car or even get out and observe as three technicians moved quickly around my vehicle. After a very brief wait I was surprised when a head popped around the corner letting me know I was all done! Wow, that was quick! I followed the man to the small terminal in the bay area to get my total and pay when things took a turn for the worst. After giving a few pieces of standard info I was informed my total, for a basic oil change; filter, 4quarts/20w50, and fluid check, my total was nearly $45.00!!! Stunned I took a quick look around the room to see if prices were printed anywhere. They were, I had no leg to stand on. Saying yeesh that's steep as I handed the tech my payment he gave me a slight smile and continued running my card. The more I think about this, the more I just can't understand. I don't know if I'm paying for the fast service or if I'm getting the fast service because I'm paying for 4 guys to change my oil. Regardless, the price tag is a bit steep for the baseline treatment. The price is enough, unfortunately, to keep me away from this great service in the future. read more

I stopped in to Donovan's today and was pleasantly surprised. That place is clean! The waiting area and service bays are spotless. They are also super fast - new windshield wipers and an oil change in under 10 minutes. The best part? No upselling. They didn't try to pressure me into buying a new air filter/tire rotation/premium oil package or other random thing I didn't need. I thanked the guy at the end for not trying to sell me extra stuff and he said, "We're a family business, and we don't do that. If you NEED something else done, we'll let you know." Nice. read more

I watched the guy drain my oil. He didn't even drain all the oil out. This is the second time I have seen them do this. When I confronted him about it it he denied it saying that he did drain it all the way. And he wouldn't show me as they already started filling it with new. I'm pretty sure that management encourages this to increase profits. I've probably been there 10 times over the years. I saw one time on their oil gun that they didn't even put the full 5 quarts my truck requires. That's why I got out and watched him last time. Yet they charged me for the full 5 quarts. They say they look over everything for the "full service though it was clear they didn't. Not to mention not One employee was wearing a mask. They didn't even pretend to care, no mask around their neck or anything. I have also heard of unhappy customers from their mechanical department. I do not recommend and will it go back there again. They could have just changed the oil and taken my money, but instead suggested I check on the recall first. You can probably find a cheaper oil change with a coupon somewhere if that's what you're looking for; however, as the others have said, this place is fast. It's convenient to me, and local. I've never had an appointment, always just pulled in. That does make it a bit hit or miss. I'd advise you to avoid the lunch hour, as there was a line shortly after I arrived around this time, but they keep everyone moving. I've been to places like this that push the upsell, the air filter, etc. I haven't felt that here before. So, today when they did check my battery and notified me it was near time to replace, I believed them. I quickly googled the price they quoted and compared it online. I highly recommend this place. Quick service but amazing service. My car had been stolen and when it was recovered we noticed A lot of damage. As soon as we got it back I took it to get a oil change. Not only did I get my oil changed but One of the guys took one of the dents out and went above and beyond by bolting the front bumper which was dragging. I am so grateful that they did this until I got my car fixed. I didn't even ask them. They just did it. It's been a solid six months since I've had my oil changed and I can't remember the last time I have had any other service done. At the urging of my dad (of course) I finally decided it was time to take care of some basic maintenance. I found Donovan's on Yelp and decided to head over based on the good reviews. The guys at Donovan's were even better than I expected! It took literally 10 minutes to have an express oil change (which includes topping off all fluids and checking tire pressure) plus a tire rotation. Granted, I was the only person there in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon, but impressive nonetheless. The man who helped me out deducted the $5 off Yelp coupon without even seeing it. Very fast! I got an oil change, oil filter, and tire rotation for less than $60. Crew was very friendly and gave me updates as they came in to get other customers, even though my wait was hardly 20 minutes. They accepted my Yelp coupon without issue and warned me about a small oil leak starting (nothing to worry about yet). These guys are great! Very friendly and the quickest and most reliable oil change I've ever used. I've never had issues with the work they've done. They've even gone above and beyond, making minor tune ups as needed for free. They also offer seasonal tuneups for very reasonable prices. Plus, if you get new tires at Donovan Tire across the street, they give you free tire rotations. I recommend this shop to everyone I know who lives around here. I think it's usually $40-45 for an oil change. More than some of the quick stop places, but it's been worth it with the added services these guys provide as well as being able to trust that my car has been put back together correctly. read more

I trust Donvan's to do a good job. These guys know cars and they take pride in doing the job right. They also don't try to sell you stuff you don't need like some other oil change places do, or have 'tricky' coupons that give you $10 off the price when that price is already $15 higher than it should be. They are fair and honest so I like them. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because I have had to wait a bit more than I would like sometimes. I've chatted with Dale on several occasions on his radio show. Saturday's from 4-7 on 55KRC, he gives away all of his magician secrets. He has helped me save hundreds of dollars by telling me how to diagnose and repair my own vehicles. An honest guy, and a great member of the community. He truly just wants to help people. My friends rave about this place. I think this place is OK but can I get in on the oil change for a fraction of the cost action? (Especially for my VW). Oil changes for it are about $90 here and $110 at the VW dealer. Also, last time I had my oil changed here I noticed a small leak and told them before they started to work on my vehicle. After they did the oil change they said "Oh the leak is very small and it's only the seal--we'll replace it next time." Um... I would've walked out but the oil change was completed so I just rolled my eyes and left. I also feel like I have to beg them for information about my car and that they are sometimes dismissive when I ask questions. Maybe I'll get a different person this time and have a better experience. This company put the wrong weight of oil in my car knowingly and would not correct this error. My husband told me about Donovan's and how they would put your own oil that you buy at O'Reily's into your car. My husband bought some oil for my 2011 car at O'Reily's and we took it to Donovan's. The guy there knew this was "my" car because I introduced myself and then went to sit in the lobby. A few weeks ago I went to Valvoline's and asked them if the oil that was put in by Donovan's was the correct oil (I still had an opened bottle in my trunk), and they told me "no". They said that it was very easy to know what the correct weight is because all you have to do is look on the actual oil cap. My car has been knocking and running bad since Donovan's knowingly put in the wrong oil. I called Donovan's and asked them to replace the incorrect weight with the correct weight and the guy on the phone with me was VERY rude and basically told me "I told your husband it was the incorrect weight, and he told me to put it in anyways, so I did." Really! Why would any business establishment do something wrong to anyone's car knowingly? I asked him why he did not come to the lobby and discuss this with me, and he said he didn't know that was my car, but he did because my husband always goes up there in his car and I introduced myself to him and told him it was my car. I am appalled that a business would do anything a customer told them to do especially when they know it is the wrong thing to do to the car. I asked the guy to let me speak to the owner, you know, Mr. Donovan and he said "he probably won't call you back", and he didn't. I am still in shock knowing that this guy put the wrong weight of oil in my car on purpose. read more

I went here all the years I lived in Pleasant Ridge. I recently moved to Cleveland and when I would come home to visit, I would still stop in and get my oil changed. I would always take my Avalon and Corolla here and it was great! 30-40 bucks, in and out in no time flat, etc.. However, when I upgraded to my Volkswagen GTI, the price somehow spiked to over $90.00!! $91.53 to be exact. I want to be clear that for most people this business will be an excellent choice. However, for me and other European car owners (I suspect), this is the wrong place to go. The VW dealer will do the exact same service for less than $30.00. It sucks that I can no longer support a family run PR institution, but I simply cannot afford the outrageous prices. If you have an Asian or American car, please take it here, you will be satisfied. The son of the original founder runs it and most of the workers are his nephews. While this is not the least expensive way to get your oil changed, you will not find a more dedicated crew. They are friendly, efficient and love dogs. I always make sure to bring my dogs for the oil change so they can get some extra loving from the guys. Also, I drive a lot for work, so I tend to need my tires checked more frequently than most.
