After being told by my dealership (Toyota) that they could not investigate a noise because I had…read more"engine gunk" (still not sure why that was an excuse), I decided to seek out a second opinion as the rattling noise got worse. Another local shop that I will not name here told me my car was likely doomed, but they'd see if they could clean the gunk, but most cars with this issue are on their way out. This was before the competitor even examined my car. Now, I take extremely good care of my car so this was suspicious to me. Enter Day Heights, who did not tell me my car was about to expire, but rather said they'd take a look and go from there (wow, groundbreaking stuff, I know). Not only did they find the problem that the dealership couldn't (wouldn't??), they complimented my car's condition for being a 2008 model. They found the noise was the serpentine belt/water pump, and the "gunk" was minor, and it was from an oil leak. They replaced the pump/belt, and cleaned and patched the leak. My car is running better than it has in literal years, and now several months after the fact as I write this, it's still going strong. No noise, no shake. They even fixed something that was hanging down that made a noise when I turned my wheels - another thing the Toyota dealership said "ooof that's a bigger problem" and didn't do anything about. I will definitely be back. Lessons learned: Maybe the dealership wants my car to die so I'll buy a new one...

He did come out midway to let me know that he did replace my windshield wipers because the one's that were on there, were worn out and no longer safe. My car also needs tires all the way around and I will be taking my car to Meineke because they DO NOT just put the cheapest one's on...They put what the manufacturer recommends and this is important to me, because I want to know that I'm safe. What impressed me was the fact that a lot of these places will go along with the customer and put the cheapest parts on an automobile, Meineke doesn't do that, they stand by what the manufacturer recommends. At the end of the day, that's always the best decision, because it's better to be safe than to be sorry.

It also rekindled my joy of working on cars with my nephew So next rain out I'll tackle pulling the intake and cleaning the intake valves and putting intake back on.
