AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE…read more Customer service is close to nonexistent, what little interaction you will have is by staff that give the appearance they would rather be anywhere but there doing anything but helping you What is FAR FAR worse however is the OUTRIGHT LIES you will be told in order to get you to buy a part. I needed a BCM for a 96 Jeep. I was advised that it could be returned if it was incompatible with my Jeep. Turns out that I didn't need the part itself, nor could I install it anyway because it would have changed my mileage, AND I would have had to have replaced or reprogrammed the chip I'm my keys. (I was advised of none of this by Herbert's) The day I took it in, with the receipt in hand, to return the part I was advised that they wouldn't return it because it had been obviously tampered with, I was given some B.S. about how they mark their plugs and this one didn't have any of their markings on them, the case itself was pointed out and the guy behind the counter told me it was obviously tampered with, he could tell by looking at it... Then came the giant lie... The same guy that sold me the part in Jan tells me "but even if it wasn't, we can't return stuff like this anyway, we don't have a return policy for computers and brain boxes" I know for a fact the bcm was not tampered with and while pointing this out to the staff and trying to ask clarifying questions I was brushed off and treated like I was trying to scam them. I warned my mechanic that they just accused him of being a thief and he assures me they will not get his companies business anymore. I will NEVER buy another part from them, EVER. I would rather buy a part brand new or over cost than return to this place. They are liars and cons. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

It turned out I needed a transmission not a transfer case. So I asked if I could trade it towards the transmission and they said bring it down. The guy came to take it out and said to wait and got the boss who said they would never sell anything that looked like that and I swapped it and I was a liar in front of my grandson. Promising me delivery the next day (Thursday). Thursday rolls around and I call to confirm as I did the previous day. Only to be told the driver WON'T be able to deliver since it will put him out of his usual route. He (Luis) apologizes and swears up a down that his word is good. Even though Monday he made a promise he couldn't keep. So I call my mechanic and tell him the bad news. He's already upset since we missed the Wednesday "alleged" delivery date. Friday I call and speak with him again and he says, I thought we delivered it yesterday. I'm my head I'm like is he serious? He apologized and told me Friday. I wait on hold and he says, it's been delivered yesterday. I said are you sure? He says yes. I called mechanic and he confirms it was delivered late in the day prior. So why the hell would Bow Auto Parts apologize to me and not even tell me. Hey btw, we got it there for you. If I had to do it again I'd probably seek another place. Proceed with caution.

I went to them a few years ago after getting cleaned out by another mechanic two years in a row. The second time, it was obvious fraud (complete failure to address the problem coupled with replacing a part that was good). Am I glad I switched! They do look at things carefully and give accurate assessments of both current and impending problems (like tire wear, for instance, AHEAD of when they need to be replaced). There is absolutely no pressure to buy parts or services from them, based on what they report. From what I've seen and other people tell me, the Darlings try to keep repairs as reasonably affordable as they can. They are more than willing to prioritize what needs to be done, so it can be spread out. Their hourly labor rate is competitive with similar businesses, but since they are competent, it's kind of a bargain. The only drawback is that A LOT of people recommend Phil and Son's. That's bad because it means that there's a wait when I want to get MY car in. In spite of that, I've directed my best friends there because what nicer thing can you do for your friends than to find a very good and ethical mechanic? If they could just book their cars in AFTER mine....
