I've been to several of George's auctions these past two years and have found some great deals…read more I've gotten a lovely couch at an extremely reasonable price, two collectible sewing machines, a few chairs and some wonderful framed prints. Many many years ago I bought an old porcelain table with matching chairs that I still have in use! The estate auctions have some interesting things in them; sometimes I go without any intention to buy. The atmosphere is casual, George is friendly, and you can even bring your own beverages/munchies although they do sell some great food there. My only complaint is the parking. Getting in and out of the place is a little crazy. Getting your stuff out the night of the auction is a little hairy and fast paced too; don't expect any help with heavy items - they're just there to collect your receipt and hand you your goods. Be prepared!

I have purchased many things from them for my home. I have also sold a few things through the auction house. I have found the customer service to be outstanding. George and Robin are lovely people who are friendly and welcoming to everyone who comes into their auction house. Their staff is totally professional. The only people who deserve any criticism are those who purchase items there and leave what they have purchased in the auction all for weeks on end cluttering up the place. I whole heartedly recommend the George Cole auction house. It deserves a ten star rating. If you go there for auction night, you will find it fun and entertaining. It's a great Saturday night out for everyone. Franceska

Old Red Barn Auction - A really good country auction.

While not Christies, this is a very professional and upscale auction in Orange County, NY…read more Finding it takes you along some lovely country roads, but keep your eyes on the road, lots of wildlife, think deer, out for an evening stroll. While the website (www.oldredbarnauction.com) gives you a good idea on whats going to be put up at the monthly (1st Sat of the month) auction, going there is a better idea. You can really see things and look them over carefully. They allow you in, give as much time as you would like and are helpful if you have questions. They have many pieces of furniture, much from older estates being sold. Some come in on consignment. There is artwork there, often some interesting pieces. They have old stoneware on occasion. Stamps come in from local dealers. China sets from "the old country" (which could be Russia, Belgium, Greece and any country in-between). Glassware from the 1920's. Leaded glass. Chandeliers. Some things will go for $10, others for $1,000. I have seen a few things go for much more. VIEWING is usually Friday afternoon before the auction, and Saturday afternoon just prior. Cash, MC, Visa, NO AMEX, local checks 15% BUYER'S FEE - I don't think there is a discount for cash. Seating is not super comfortable. but if you get there early enough its manageable. Or you can stand in the back area. Get there early on Saturday, parking will be difficult, at best. That's one annoying thing. The other is the cost of the food they serve. Ludicrous, and not good enough for the price. 5 stars because you don't go for the parking and food anyway, the auctioneer is good and he keeps things moving along.

Very pleased with our proceeds and Red Barn service. We received a check with no follow up. Give it a try if your furnishings are in good shape.
