Their products are well tagged with prices, and service is good. Check this place out, before deciding on purchasing elsewhere(to make sure you've exhausted your search). Even for those who end up in Northern Dutchess Hospital and who have lost most of their clothes from car accidents or whatever, this store might even have some type of product to get you back on your feet at good prices, until you can get back on your feet again). No inside hallway connection between the hospital and this thrift shop exists, so walking between these two seems to be unconvincing. A person will either get hypothermic walking here, or become scorched from the hot sun walking here from the hospital). From the name, however, I wonder what percentage of the sales price the hospital takes in on money? This place doesn't look like it's been ever improved in a dozen or so years.

Hubs and I noticed a gently-used $2300+ Pottery Barn dining table at this Kingston, NY ReStore for a flat $700. The poundage on this 8' monstrosity of a dinner table had me sold. Except, it was 2' too big for my dining room. But the price was killer. This ReStore is spacious with furniture gathered into groups. For instance, chest of drawers are grouped together, coffee tables in another group, lamps together, etc. There's leven a back room filled construction items like kitchen/bathroom tiles, hammers, etc ridiculously inexpensive. This is one of the best choices if you are looking for second-hand furniture.

I worked at Free to Thrift in Kingston for about six weeks in January. I waited months to write because I did not want this to come from immediate hurt. I applied because I believed the image: abundance, sustainability, free goods, fair wages, and community care. In my experience, the issue begins with Christina Kravig, the owner, and the unchecked power she held over pricing, workers, the free section, and the store's moral image. This is not an attack on staff; many seemed reliant on Christina or the job. I asked if Free to Thrift was a nonprofit because the language sounded like mutual aid. Christina told me no, and the reason given was that nonprofits can be exploitative. But a private business built on free donations can also become exploitative when pricing, access, labor, sanitation, and decisions stay under one person's control. It seemed to want to be a socialist utopia, but from what I experienced, it became more controlling than ordinary retail. Pricing was a contradiction. I saw prices change at Christina's discretion: higher-value donations priced differently, items reinterpreted at the register, a used Labubu around $20, $10 light bulbs, $5-$10 empty gift boxes, used/opened hygiene products, and questionable items sold. Public reviews describe the same pattern: overpriced items, register price changes, and free items later treated as "incorrectly marked." As an employee, I saw the inside version of that. The markdown system sounds generous because items can become free. In practice, people with money get first access while people without money keep returning and hoping something remains. The wealthy shop. The poor scavenge. I know donations were not washed before going to the floor. I worked in the back room. Donations were piled on a filthy floor, often from trash bags, and could go directly into the store. I saw stains and what appeared to be blood or bodily fluids. The free section had no clear written policy; access seemed to depend on Christina's judgment. Two young Black customers regularly came in for free items. Christina treated them as if they were stealing, and I was asked to watch them. From what I witnessed, they were limited while others could take more. Christina used spiritual language tied to power. She talked about energy, called people bad energy, and represented herself as psychic or intuitive. I am not criticizing spirituality. The issue is when one person's "read" affects who is trusted, suspected, fairly priced, or worthy of abundance. I was told I had bad energy. In my experience, the culture lacked empathy; judgment was often dressed up as intuition. The worker culture reflected hierarchy and silence. I was told not to speak to Christina during shifts and had to use a chain of command. Some people had access; others were watched and corrected. Her own children warned me I would probably cry one day. The fair-pay image is complicated: $25/hour sounds radical, but 32 hours with four unpaid breaks is 28 paid hours, or $700/week before taxes. In weekly income, that can be less than full-time McDonald's, the cliché pinnacle of capitalist exploitation. I was reprimanded for basic kindness, including helping a customer and being friendly to disabled students. Cameras were monitored, breaks were tracked, and I was followed. Christina yelled until I cried and brought up personal health information in a way that felt weaponized. Customers noticed. My employment ended after I used my personal charger to help a customer pay with Apple Pay at a coworker's request. The store sold it. When I asked for reimbursement, I was treated like a nuisance and offered random cords instead of repayment. When I said I considered that theft, I was fired. A community that gives donations, trust, reputation, and care deserves transparency and accountability. Abundance is not abundance if only one person decides who deserves it. Values mean little if they disappear when they are supposed to be practiced. read more

When I finally went in I was greeted pleasantly and the shop was organized well and inviting, with vintage charm. As I browsed the shoes, I was directed to the shelves with my size and encouraged to try on anything I liked. I kept on a pair of boots to ensure they were comfortable for me while I shopped the rest of the store. I found so many things I loved, including a ring and a unique cardigan that elicits multiple compliments every time I wear it. While I was shopping for over an hour, other shoppers came in, new and repeat customers. Each person was welcomed pleasantly, and assisted with any questions with no pressure whatsoever. Eventually, I became a consigner myself. I still spend more than I make, but I have great new additions to my wardrobe! I'm looking forward to another shopping visit today! This shop is worth checking out!
