This is a small home, older than most, but it is clean and neat. The ladies room was nice and had a small sitting area with a nice sofa. There is a small parking lot in the back, but there is plenty of street parking off of Stony Island. It was good to see that they were observing COVID protocols...everyone was required to wear masks and they room was limited to number of people that were in attendance. Not sure if they are actually involved in the preparation of my aunt's body, but I have to say she looked amazing, like she was sleeping. The service itself was nice, but I wasn't all that crazy about the minister that gave the eulogy. It's not the first time I have been to a service where the person didn't know anything about the person they were speaking of, so the eulogy tended to wander off track. Not sure what the bald eagle being on the endangered species list had to do with my aunt, but it was mentioned. Prior to him delivering his sermon, many of us got up to speak about my aunt. I guess I was hoping he would take note of what was said about her and work off of that. That didn't happen, so hence the bald eagle story. Definitely hoping that I don't have to come back here too soon, but otherwise the service and execution of it was a good send off from my aunt.

All of my close family members are buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL. As soon as I uttered St. Mary's, I was shut down. My mother's wake and funeral were in 1995, and my brother's wake and funeral were held at T&K in 2017. There was no problem, and our family was satisfied with everything. Both of these times, our dealings were with the same woman. My less than satisfactory experience with my husband's wake and funeral were overseen by a man (I won't even use his name). I've instructed both of my children that when I die, DO NOT hold my wake and funeral at Thomspon & Kuenster.

My sister made the initial phone calls, and all went smooth. We met to finalize the arrangements on a Sunday morning and I really had no idea what to expect. Personally, I'd heard stories of inflated prices, funeral directors working the family's grief to leverage additional services and costs. NONE of those horror stories happened here. Andy was kind and businesslike- just what you need in this time. We had the facts, we had the choices we could make and he guided us through drafting the death notice. Everything came in at a cost that was at or below what we had expected. What impressed me most of all was how we were treated and even more, how my father was treated. We were given the space, and respect this occasion in our lives deserved. We were not directed or told how to do anything. The day of the service the gentleman that was there with us was also kind and helped us to give Dad a good sendoff. We were offered help in arranging pictures, flowers and music to our liking. Thank you Richard Midway for your service! You helped us in our time of need and I'm sure Dad would have loved it.

My family I…read morehad the unfortunate task of organizing a wake and funeral for a loved one and happened upon Richard-Midway. It was actually the only local one we called (loved one passed away elsewhere) and we were certain right away. Jeff is the best at what he does. He went above and beyond to assist my family through this whole process, our meetings with him were hours long. I'm not familiar with any other experience to compare to, but he really did make it as smooth as possible under the circumstances. He facilitated the pick up of our loved one over an hour away without issue. He allowed us a private viewing before our loved one went to the crematory, to say our goodbyes. He reviewed all the necessary steps and kept us informed every step of the way. The evening of the visitation/wake we were greeted and assisted by Jeanette who was wonderful as well and really compassionate to our family and guests. They had all of our flowers set up beautifully when we arrived. It was nice to have the use of the whole funeral home for our service because there were small kids who were running all over the place and I imagine would be disruptive if a second family was also in the building having a service at the same time. They have a refreshment room in the basement with an automatic coffee dispensing machine in a room with some tables with chairs which was nice also. My family brought donuts. Our service was 3 hours which was the perfect length. The next day we had a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Snows church to which Jeff had everything brought over (we didn't have to take it from the funeral home the night before back home and to the church the next morning, he took care of everything) which was a huge help. Jeff did the readings for the mass as well. He was very warm and kind with my family and guests. God really made a special one with Jeff, we really appreciate him and all of his work on our family's arrangements. It really made a heartbreaking situation more of a beautiful farewell. Mr. Thomas and his son did a top-notch job of restoring my mother. She suffered from a long-term illness and her post-mortem body was shockingly thin and no longer looked like herself. At her viewing, mom looked twenty years younger and asleep versus deceased. The "undertaker" used very little makeup and created a great natural appearance. I am still awaiting the receipt of all of our death certificates (3 out of 5 were ready about two weeks after the funeral, though I opted to wait for the arrival of all 5). This is the only thing that held me back from the five stars I believe they may have otherwise earned. I highly recommend Midwest Memorial Chapel.

I comparison shopped all over the city and suburbs and no one could beat Midwest Memorial's prices. I wanted a simple wood casket, no viewing/funeral, and transport to the cemetery for a graveside burial with a brief service. Yvette made sure all of my needs were met, with graciousness and patience. She found the perfect casket in my budget price range and she made sure every step of the process was clear for me. The funeral director who came to the cemetery was just as wonderful. I immediately felt her warmth and hugged her automatically. The hearse driver, too, was warm, caring and professional. Country Club Hills is a small town so a funeral home with so of the comforts of a larger facility yet cozy enough to have a personal touch is refreshing. Larger funeral homes I've attended have multiple services and, in some cases, the personal attention and the details can be missed. Here, it felt like the staff were focused and dedicated to the family, friends, and service at all times. I wasn't aware until we were dismissed that there was another service on site. I would definitely recommend this facility.

That last-minute communication was unfortunate. The woman working with us to collect payment kept referring to "the machine" that was telling her the amount due. The numbers were not adding up. There was a small amount of a difference, less than $5, between what we were told and what she was asking for. It wasn't a big deal, but it was disheartening that there was not an explanation for this difference regardless of the amount. Their facilities are beautiful and they are professional in their approach. I would like to see the business move to update their payment system to avoid the challenges we experienced.
