I got the moriwase, which is a rice bowl with eel, sashimi, shrimp and fried chicken. Overall it was solid, but I wish there was less chicken and more of the other proteins. Overall donburi is fast Japanese food but I would like more options on the rice bowls.
This was so warming on a rainy day! The chicken and shrimp were tender af without any greasiness. The egg was also super soft and almost melted into the rice. I thought there was a touch too much sauce and salt. I'd somehow get it with less sauce next time.
I enjoyed my food. I thought this was one of the heartiest curry bowls I've had in DC. I also thought the katsu was especially yummy. Indoors, I thought the place was very clean. You also use the self-order kiosk to place your order, so the entire process was efficient. I will definitely come back again!
I've wanted to try Donburi for a while and it didn't disappoint! Their main items are rice bowls with different meats and toppings. The menu is small but sufficient. We ordered at the screen kiosks and had a short wait for our food. The inside is huge with two floors and tons of seating. The bowls were delicious with a lot of food for the price! They're simple- rice, meat, and a few toppings- but that lets the quality of the food shine through. They came with a fresh side salad as well. It's a great place for an easy lunch or dinner.
Comfort food at its finest! Located above a vape store, this place is a hidden gem for fast casual You order via the kiosk and grab a seat while you wait for your food. The menu doesn't have a lot of options but enough to account for everyone's taste whether that be curry dish or a rice bowl. Katsu curry: amazing curry flavor + CRISPY katsu!! The only thing is I wish there was a side or more of that katsu sauce. Mixed rice bowl: shrimp tempura and chicken were so CRISPY & the chicken was large pieces! I love the egg that is included in this meal + the sauce on the side (that had fish eggs might I add) was a fantastic addition! + for portion given the price it was well worth it in this economy! Service was super friendly.
An amazing lunch option that I recently discovered because I was craving Japanese food. The donburi Moriwase is essentially their bowl that has everything on it and it was delicious. Next time I will definitely be getting the sake don as their salmon was surprisingly fresh. Service was quick and nice. The restaurant itself is perfect for a solo lunch because there is a ton of seating upstairs, self order kiosk, and self serve water.
This place is up some stairs, which lead directly to order screens and a pickup area, with seating up some more stairs. It's fast casual - so you put in your order, pick up your food, and bus your own trays. The folks working there were polite. I've had better curry and katsu, but this was enough to satisfy a craving should other options not be available. The chicken in the toridon wasn't bad, but isn't really the flavor profile I was looking for - it was drowned in what tasted like sweet sriracha. I can see this being a convenient spot to grab a bite during the workday, but probably wouldn't come back again unless hard pressed to find a better option.
Great tasting fast food served here. Prices are very good considering in DC area. Not accessible for handicap. Stairs up to restaurant and another level up for table seating.
The food (Butadon) was so bitter burn, not my style. The ebikatsu was so thick deep fat frying and has no black/eel sauce with it. Self order from kiosk and seated on 2nd floor. There're enough space to sit for 24 people. The bug are flying while I'm dining then I decided to take out instead and the table so sticky, I've spray alcohol and wipe the table but the bug still around (see VDO).
This is a nice quick option for lunch! Plenty of options of pretty good food and decent seating upstairs. The staff is friendly and get meals out fast.
Who would've thought a great little spot was above a vape shop? Once you go upstairs, you're greeted by a modern ordering system with digital screens. Easy to use and quick! The atmosphere upstairs is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed lunch. The Christmas tunes added a festive touch. You pickup food at the counter when it's ready. The food was the real star of the show. The fried dishes were crispy and flavorful, just how I like them. Overall, a pleasant dining experience. Definitely recommend checking this place out!
Delicious with large portions! A great lunch option if you're in the area. Service is quick and the workers are kind and accommodating. You order yourself at a kiosk which is quick and easy and there are photos next to the menu items which is helpful when deciding. Theres also plenty of seating on the second floor for dining in.
Solid donburi place in DC! The sakedon was really really good-- they didn't skimp out on the salmon sashimi and the rice was seasoned perfectly. Service was fast and ambiance was very casual-- good to go with friends!
We got: 1. Donburi Moriwase - Assorted toppings of Eel, Salmon, Ebi and Karaage. Seasoned rice. Japanese pickles. Wasabi 2. Karaage/Ebi Curry Katsudon - Japanese pickles. White rice. House made Japanese curry In the donburi Moriwase, Eel was tender and thoroughly deboned. Sashimi was fresh. Tempura shrimp and Karaage were crispy and tasty. Dipping Sauces are provided to compliment certain proteins. The consistency and flavor of the curry was on point. Combined with perfectly cooked rice, I'm really happy a specialty donburi restaurant like this exists. read more

I've passed by this place multiple times over the past a couple of years and finally decided to try it for work lunch this week. I ordered the mix katsudon to go with a side of donburi sauce. I got my order to go and the process was efficient and smooth with accurate timing for pickup. I was running 15 minutes behind, but thankfully my food was still hot at pickup. The portion was a nice size for lunch with a nice amount of flavor and sauce. I would have enjoyed more shrimp and rice to balance the amount of sauce but overall this a solid lunch option! read more
Love this place! Getting it delivered or for pickup has only reaffirmed that love. How many times have you opened your delivery or to go bag only to find that things are missing whether it's add-ons, condiments, or utensils? I have one place that has 100% charged me then not included add-ons for more than 5 orders. Not this place! Every single time, the orders are conscientiously packed. Everything is complete and the food is packaged really well too. For example, the curry bowl has the rice and curry separated on the bottom level of the bowl then another level with the katsu protected on top until you're ready! Now my favorite order is the Donburi Moriwase (has grilled eel, chicken karaage, salmon, and pickled radish over rice. There are also sweet cucumbers sliced on top. I also enjoy the curry with katsu. Can't really go wrong with either option. The food is delicious. It is pricey though you are also getting quite a bit of good stuff with it... otherwise I would be getting it all the time! But I still get it pretty often these days. It's just really savory and satisfying. I'm definitely full after eating this! I definitely recommend this place and plan to go back again... and again and again. You should all go and help keep this place open so I can keep on eating this! read more

Came here after seeing countless rave reviews, and was left underwhelmed and very puzzled. Maybe I'm spoiled with endless good asian food joints where I am from, but the donburis and curry that we tried were greasy, and one dimensional. Even the salmon sashimi was very sad looking. read more
I love this place so much. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the flavors are rich, savory and delicious. Most of the service is self serve because you place your order at the machine, grab a pager and seat yourself but it's fine. The atmosphere is great, with a beautiful outlay, very nice music and a relaxing environment. I highly recommend. read more
I love trying different things which was why I chose the Donburi Moriwase with assorted toppings of eel, sashimi, shrimp tempura, and karaage. The shrimp tempura and karaage were perfectly crispy while the salmon and eel just melt in your mouth. read more

Yummy and fresh! Loads of different fish all in a bowl. The fried food is super hot when served and the raw fish is very fresh Service is good Wait time is short A great place! read more
Tried this place out on a Friday night. No crowds or lines and very casual place. You order on a touchscreen menu when you walk in and collect food when ready at the counter. Some issues with people being able to hear their order being called as seating is a floor up from where you order. The food looks perfect when received and a really good amount for the price point. I couldn't finish it! I think it is awesome their is a Japanese curry house as you really don't see very many around for whatever reason. On the counter side of that there also wasn't anything super special with this curry. I don't think I would make a special effort to return but if happened to be around the area and hankering for curry I'd stop in read more

Had the mixed Katsudon curry bowl and it was delicious. 3 crispy tender juicy chicken pieces and 2 very light airy crispy shrimps over rice with takuan Dijon pickles. Curry flavor was tasty and great portion. Appreciate the place was kept clean as well. I would come back. read more
Ordered for pickup, easy and efficient. Pretty pleased and will return to see if it's even better another day. Ebi katsu: 5+ stars. Best I've ever had! Donburi moriwase: 3.5 stars. Great rice and seasoning, nice thick slices of pickled ginger. Other than the ebi, the proteins were just okay though. Eel and salmon were a little fishy. But I came for Sunday lunch so maybe it is fresher another day at another time. Karaage was disappointingly dry and tough. I appreciated the large portions of everything though Staff were friendly and the restaurant is very clean. read more
Miss the original location in Adams Morgan. This place is less of a restaurant and more of a fast food location. Great for a quick fried food rice bowl but it's not very healthy. The other location used to give a tea water if you sit down. Now you order from a kiosk and everything is disposable. Also some of the condiment sauces changed and you have to ask for them separately. The service was accommodating. read more

Nice little restaurant, perfect for a quick bite! We tried the Mix and Ebi donburi bowl. The shrimp was perfectly crisp. The rice had a nice flavor also. Portions were great! Wish we had a place like this near Philly. Perfect comfort bowl. read more
Love Donburi - it's been a few years but tried this newer location and it was just as good as I remembered. Great, filling donburi bowls, delicious proteins, and at a great price! Good option for lunch or dinner. We had the butadon (pork was delicious), and the combo (salmon, tempura and unagi were so good!! Karaage was ok). Side salad was good. read more
Great casual/quick dinner or lunch spot! If you're looking for asian comfort food that doesn't feel too heavy, this is a great place to check out. My friend and I came on a rainy day and we were pleasantly surprised. SERVICE: 4/5 - Ordering is done on a self-service kiosk, but 1 out of the 2 kiosks was broken, so it wasn't very efficient to order. The food we order was brought to us in less than 5 minutes after ordering, which was crazy fast. The store was fairly clean, but the tables and tray surfaces were all very sticky to the touch. FOOD: - Donburi Moriwase: 4.5/5 - Both me and my friend got this since it includes all toppings (salmon, eel, tempura, and karaage. It was definitely on the pricier end ($20), but we were curious and wanted to try a little bit of everything. The eel and fried items were all delicious. You could tell everything was fresh, but I didn't like how the warm rice was touching the salmon sashimi...it ended up warming up the salmon which I do not particularly enjoy. Overall, great place to get a nice comforting bowl of curry or japanese comfort food! When I go back, I think I will opt out of getting the salmon. Everything else was amazing. read more
Donburi is one of my favorite places to go in DC! If you're ever craving some Japanese style donburi, this is the place to go. Their salmon is always fresh and is really good quality (if you order sakedon). The katsudon menu is really good too if you like fried food and curry. I'm always torn between mix katsudon and sakedon because I want/like both fried food AND salmon sashimi. I recently found out that Donburi Moriwase had a little bit of both salmon and fried chicken/shrimp! So Donburi Moriwase is perfect for people like me who want both! read more
I got the mixed curry with chicken and shrimp and it was delicious! The shrimp was juicy but the chicken was a little dry. The batter was crispy and had a nice crunch to it. The sauce was flavorful and this meal filled me up. Definitely worth it for the price and value of the meal! read more

nice food and nice environment. It is like fast food service we can get our own spoons and chopsticks. Strongly recommend the curry, I really like the poke curry. read more
Donburi is my new favorite casual joint in DC. It was my first time visiting and I felt like I was at home with the friendly staff and the casualness of the restaurant. When you first enter, there's a self service kiosk for you to order and pay. If you're dining in, they will bring the food to you upstairs (where there's ample seating). I got the green tea, mix katsudon, and Donburi Moriwase. Green Tea: staple green tea that you can get at an Asian supermarket. I always get this whenever it's available at a restaurant. Light and refreshing. Mix katsudon: the batter on the katsu doesn't fall off at all. I was super impressed with every bite I took. The batter itself was thick enough for you to feel a crunch but thin enough to not be overwhelmed. Really liked it, the Japanese curry was standard. I don't think I would order this again because I liked the katsu on its own. Donburi Moriwase: this one has to be my favorite dish of November. You get an amazing deal $19 for fresh salmon, eel, kaarage, and shrimp tempura. An amazing dish for someone who can't decide which bowl to get but wants to try everything. Usually in a variety bowl like this, I end up not like one main feature for some reason but every item was amazing in its own. Together, it amplified the value you get from this bowl. Overall: I wished I had a Donburi next to me in college because I would be coming here so often. It's affordable, extremely good, and the casual. Good thing I live in DC now and can come here as often as I want! read more

I was heading to a place I found on a map. While past by this building it caught my attention and attracted me in. I didn't regret this sudden plan change. Awesome experience and the food. With very little interaction (self service) stuff still make me feel welcome. read more

Donburi is a solid place that is an affordable comfort food option if you need a quick meal. Today, I had the salmon roe bowl which was different than I expected. It does have a slightly fishy taste but then again, it is roe. It was slightly on the spicy side too but I thought it was refreshing. I would give it at 4.5/5 and the curry is a solid 5/5. I would back here in a heartbeat. read more

This was my first time at Donburi. I ordered the Karaagedon Curry and it was really good. It had just a hint of heat, not over powering at all. To my surprise the bowl came with a lot of fried chicken bits which was very nice. The pickled veggies that come with it are absolutely delicious and balance the curry really well. The establishment is small but comfortable. It's almost like a hole in the wall. Seating is all along the bar where the chefs work. The guys there are very friendly and helpful. The ordering process was pretty easy through a tablet. It included pictures and descriptions of each item. The prices were a bit high, however, it was good quick comfort food. I would certainly return to explore other things from the menu. read more
I had the Mixed curry of the shrimp and chicken. Both tasty, I preferred the chicken more because it had more flavor while the shrimp tasted very fried (not a bad thing, it makes it more optimal to dip into the curry). So next time I would order just the chicken. I feel like I got a TON of rice in my dish, and not much of the protein. I ended up leaving half the rice over. The additions to the bowl like the radish and They have fair prices here, with a lot of good Japanese comfort food options, donburi, curries, katsudon, etc. Fast service though - they give you a buzzer to pick it up. I think Donburi is good if you're in the mood for Japanese dishes and also want an eating experience on the quick side! read more

Door-dashed some food to my hotel and my favorite was definitely the karaage curry donburi! The salmon could have been a bit more fresh, but the meal was likely better enjoyed in house read more
I give donburi a 4.2/5 I was really happy with my meal. It's the perfect lunch portion and is really easy to drive over to Tysons II from McLean to pick it up or eat it there. The Mix Katsudon is a combination of delicious crispy shrimp, chicken and egg over a bed of rice. A delicious medley of flavors and a true delicious meal. A lot of things on the menu to try here, worth taking the trip to Tyson's II. read more

Pretty good! I had this placed bookmarked for years, and finally made it in at the suggestion of a fellow Yelper. I was the only patron on the lower level when I arrived during off-peak hours, so my order was taken quickly and food make quickly as well. After reviewing the menu, I decided to go with the donburi moriwase 1) bc it seems to be the most popular selection and 2) bc it looked absolutely delicious in pictures. The meal was definitely delicious once I began digging in. The shrimp and eel were my favorite protein portions of the dish. Shrimp was perfectly crispy and the eel, nicely barbecued. No complaints with the overall taste of the meal. The portion isn't huge-- you won't have leftovers-- but it hits the spot. However, after I'd devoured my meal, I noticed that I was shortchanged. The menu description says that the moriwase comes with shrimp, chicken, eel, salmon, AND tuna. Sadly, I didn't get any tuna in my bowl, nor was I informed that they were out of tuna. I'm not sure if it was an oversight, but I love tuna so I would've liked to have had some. Take-aways: great flavor, but not a huge serving. Don't expect to leave stuffed if you're particularly starving. Also, pay attn and make sure your plate comes with all advertised toppings. read more

This was one of my go-to places to eat when I was in Washington D.C. over the summer! It was the ultimate comfort food for me as it contained all the components that I love -- radish, Katsu, and rice! It was well-seasoned and easy to take-out or dine-in. They also had good portioning and the service was good. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a comforting rice dish. read more

I have been to the Donburi in AdMo but that one is very small. I definitely like this location more. There's a ton of sitting. I got their mixed katsudon donburi style with chicken and shrimp. It was absolutely delicious! This kept me full for so long. Great lunch choice read more

Such a great place for lunch! I happened to go here when the spot I had in mind for lunch was closed but this was so much more ideal. I haven't had authentic curry like this since I was in Tokyo and this was such a warm bowl of nostalgia. The ebi (shrimp) was perfectly fried and the curry was so filling. Would highly recommend! read more
Service was very quick with 2 kiosks at the front of the store and options for dining in or take out. I chose the combo/one listed as most popular and it came with 3 pieces of karate, 2 shrimp tempura and a soft scrambled egg below them. Dining area is self seating upstairs with water. Ultimately giving it 3 stars for the price ($16) and expected flavor with nothing blowing me away. Would recommend checking out! read more
